  • GENERATION X=Cool

    Generation Y=There ok

    Generation Z=TOTAL FUCKING DOUCHE BAGS!!!

  • I'm so glad this isn't My Generation!

  • that group is good, dosen't sound like punk music, who was singing ??

  • @missy12061 Billy fuckin Idol.

  • @Capz541 really? it didn't look like him what year was this?

  • Listening to this again, it is really incredible that this rubbish even charted back in 1977. Where are you now Billy Broad? Living in a mansion in California?

  • @GamesFrontiers Eh, I think you're just old. It's not bad for LIVE punk at all.

  • Here we have more pretentious spastic gyrations disguising lack of talent. Pretty much sums up the "Punk " movement, created by Malcolm McLaren to swindle the record companies and the kids to enrich himself.

  • Young Billy;)

  • If all pop douches here this song

There will be a new era

    a new generation GENERATION X!!

  • @bastardester19 Hell yeah bro!

  • @bastardester19 Your a true gen x fan just like me keep preaching bro! ADD ME

  • praise from caeser

  • for fucking sake. theres a difference between selling out and getting famous.. a band so good will eventually get really famous and end up mainstream.. then people call them sell outs.. fucking tards

  • Billy rules everyone else sucks

  • take that roger daltrey!!!!

  • @greenkz1 Roger owns him

  • First gig I ever went to was these at Wolverhampton Civic Hall in 1979.

  • Comparing this to later work...kind of feel ashamed buying Kiss Me Deadly on vinyl

  • punk is awesome music

  • ok I don't care about that "sellout" shit, Billy was cool in G-X but he was cooler as a solo artist (til Cyberpunk I guess) but anyway thats a nice video.

  • Muchmusic Never played this once in the 80s...and i hope they never do now they dont deserve to now. (did billy idol die?)

  • @Canaboy12 Billy Idol is alive and well and working on a new album!

  • Another really good single by Gen X, full marks to Bolan for having bands like this on his show too. You can bet if it was today, we wouldn't get such a big star having new bands on. Unless they were shit of course.

  • Urm, okay, so you're a dumbass. That's Billy Idol. Pre-fame and pre-sellout.

  • This shit u call "music" is fucked up they look like their on meth when they play

  • @trdacy Hah, you're pathetic. GTFO of here. Punks only, asshat ;)

  • @trdacy THIS IS PUNK ROCK,IT'S FAST AND THEY WILL KICK UR ASS!! PUNK ROCK IS THE BEST MUSIC, WHAT R YOU 300 YRS. OLD!?!? GO LISTEN TO UR DOOBIE BROTHERS OR LYNYRD SKYNYRD GARBAGE!

  • Seriously?! Billy Idol was one of the biggest Bromley Contingent wanna-be posers of the "Punk" scene. "Hey guys, do I look like Johnny Rotten with my hair like this?" Study your Punk history people.

  • @mnmlewis10 CUNT

  • @WildmanBorneo Hate to break it to you, but Billy Idol was a bandwagon Punk poser. Just like Siouxsie Sioux. They all rode the Sex Pistols' coattails. Nothing original or authentic about them. Do your research.

  • @mnmlewis10 Still a cunt

  • @mnmlewis10 CUNT.

  • @TheUltraDude How can I argue with someone with such a clever username? You are too cool for me.

  • @mnmlewis10 Still a cunt

  • @TheUltraDude Yeah, you really got me there. You presented such an eloquent retort. Your parents must be really proud. Do you and Wildman have a thing together? Don't repress it. You'll end up in a bell tower.

  • @mnmlewis10 STILL a cunt.

  • @TheUltraDude Yawn. I'm curious, do you have anything original to say?..."What is Punk?" one guy asks another. The other guy kicks in a trash can and dumps garbage all over the street."THAT is Punk," he said. They walk down the street and come to another trash can. The first guy kicks it in, impressed with himself. "Is that Punk?" he asks. "No," the second guy says, "that's poseur, you hipster!"

  • @mnmlewis10 cunt.

  • @mnmlewis10 Haha what a great way of putting punk

  • really punk rock attitude

  • i had all these lads signatures for 4 years then i went on holiday when i was 22 i went to majorca, i come back, my mam and dad empyteed my cupboards of everything i had qnd iwerernt bloody happy bout thst

  • This is my favorite Idol clip. The Green Day singer learned everything he knows right here. ;)

  • I love Gen-X and always will

  • first punk single i bought...10p cheers Mave, worth selling me dinner ticket for

  • Alice lid ell

  • Fucken Outrages

  • he was almost the singer for the sex pistols but he wasnt edge enough for them....i can see why

  • Boy this sucks, Billy def got better later, but this is crap

  • @jlmarc01 No, man. This is blossom... Of a great band.

  • Gen X is fuckin' great, I mean don't get me wrong- BUT, the backing vocals are way off!

  • i'm shocked.

  • thxs for uploading this

  • drunk epileptic cameraman! awesome

  • Billy Idol is best

  • What's interesting to me is that they popularised the term generation X, and then were nearly forgoten, while the Term has been a cliche ever since.

  • REAL PUNK ROCK

  • now this is some original punk rock!

    Oi! Oi!

  • This is the ultimate. Fuck yeah punk rock. :)

  • PS this song rocks.

  • Shut up shut up shut up all of you SHUT UP! Music today is what it is. It's no better or worse than this. Blink-182 isn't spoon fed to anyone any more than The Clash or Generation X were. Be nostalgic and clutch your old albums if you want but the truth of the matter is it's all subjective and you're living in the past being pissy at what's new because you are comfortable with your classics. Everything is good in it's own respect, get off your fucking high horses and listen to your fucking music

  • @LEdHeadW Who dropped you on the head ? Blink 182 ? get the fuck outta here

  • @sclapione You seem to enjoy judging a successful contemporary band whose only crime was getting enough label attention to make them mainstream and everything that came with that. Go ahead, I'll just continue to ignore your opinions until you back them up with more valid criticisms.

  • billie idol is sooooooooo young!!!!!!!!!!

  • Posing poof. JJ Burnel of The Stranglers kicked this little egotistics head in.

  • I never thought this as punk, seemed to soft, they had the image but the music was more pop than anything else

  • @dogma264

    Early punk man, early punk.

Look at the clash, you could call them "pop" too

    But no, theyre early punk.

    cheers

  • la era punk de billy idol

  • classic!

  • YEAH!!! PORCO EL DIO!!

  • My fave Gen X song. I was alright with some of Billy's early work, but it pales in comparison to the sheer energy of Gen X. I'm old enough to remember when this came out. I cranked it up for my friends and they just laughed. Most of my friends were into prog rock like Rush. They got scared when I played Dead Kennedy's Fresh Fruit lp!

It's a shame that this generation are spoon-fed pop/punk bands like Blink 182 and Sum 41, and are told it's punk.

We grew up with the real stuff.

  • It's a pity I missed this fantastic time! Though my dad was a passionate collector of [punk rock stuff, so I picked it all up! It's quite arguable whether GenX was the best punk rock band. But with their looks, attitude and short, energetic and very clear songs they were. For sure!

P.S. Since "In the Valley..." was the first GenX hit 4 me 2 hear - it's my favorite1!

  • Punk ! Punk ! Punk ! Punk !

  • Gen X makes Billy Idols solo shit even more embarassing!

One of the greatest bands to come out of England during this era for sure.

  • that is billy idol.

  • Así se rockea!

  • i saw this lot at the roundhouse in 78 when i was 14 and there was a constant barrage of spit on the band for the entire set

funny the things you remember init

  • @mrbeans19 init,wots init....DIV ALERT

  • is it just me? or does the lead singer at the start of the video look kinda like sid vicious with blonde hair??

  • yeah, he kinda looks like Billy Idol too hahahaha

  • He is biilly idol wtf?

  • yes it is billy idol hahaa this was his first band i think..or one of his first

  • @Natasha10193 OMFG just go back to bed.

  • U aware he's Billy Idol?

  • funny how London based record companies knew which way the country was heading. Friends in certain places?

Anyway, those record companies soon disappeared well up their behinds, due to lack of the new artists respect.

  • Poor Marc, what the hell must he have been thinking?

  • Bolan was a great ambassador for the new punk movement in the 70's so I'm guessing he was thinking GREAT!! Rock On...

  • Billy looks like a child, how huge is his head? Marc let any Tom, Dick and Harry on his show, he was good at not offending people.

  • love it! :D

  • Brilliant thanks dude!Billy's a knob no doubt, but those 1st 3 singles were sublime! We knew back then of his love for the 50s/60s bands, but to the average Punk on the street, this record was a symbol of our total disgust for that Generation & how it ended up-man we despised them...'orrible lot really, weren't we :) !!!!!!!!

  • I love how pure and raw this is recording. You can hear the wavering voice from the energetic movements billy is making and the unwavering beat...man it just makes you jump up and dance the pogo!!!!!!!!!

  • KILLER! did not know there were any genx vids.

  • I don't think it was a diss to the who . On an interview Billy Idol said he was a who fan and the song was a tribute to the who or something like that. The Who even invited Billy to guest sing at one of their Tommy concerts.

  • Roger Daltrey born in 1944. In 1964 20 yrs old Sting born in 1951. In 1971 20 yrs old Billy Idol born in 1955. In 1975 20 yrs. In 1977 33 years old, Roger. In 1977 26 years old, Sting. In 1977 22 years old, Billy Idol.

  • Ramones.

  • Well, not that very much. (Totally different vocal and a lot of sharp chords by Gen.X.)

  • Oi, oi, oi!

  • The ends will justify the means... Your generation don't mean a thing to me..Hellz yeah

  • this and other generation x songs are pretty punk but billy idol haves to pretty voice for a punk singer

  • Hey, didn't billy have brown hair in one of these clips?

  • wow, they are pretty boy pousers

  • Well - they can pouse (!?) all they like - we LOVE it

  • no, plus u mispelled "posers".

  • Actually... it's poseurs.

  • thanx 4 the info!

  • hay no problemo buddy!

  • they dont have pure kick ass rock and roll like this anymore. instead they have shit like finger elevin and staind

  • @jaggerrocks there's a reason they don't have this shit anymore... its crap. if you listen to it objectively, instead of through the reminiscence of your angst filled high school years you would see this is a complete pile of crap. finger 11 sucks too. listen to gogol bordello, or zappa you flaming pile of rat infested trash

  • @Chucksporterhouse2 name five zappa albums and name one good song by gogol bordello (trick question, theres none)

  • @jaggerrocks WTF are you talking about? Gogl Bordello puts out some great stuff!

  • @LardInATubeSock my best friend was doing the reply for me, i actually do like gogol bordello and not a fan of zappa but i dont dislike him. regardless chucksporterhouse2 is a fag

  • @jaggerrocks this music is absolute SHIT

  • @powers86rule you're stupid

  • @powers86rule Stick to your Samsung and Modern Warfare crap, dude LOL !!!

  • @jaggerrocks Here Here

  • like the effect on the guitar is it a compreser?

  • WoW billy was really good. i wish there was more bands like this about now

  • I used to run home from school to cach the Punk bands on the Marc show...great stuff.

  • That means you ran home from school twice -

    if you're including mod bands.

  • No...just the Punk bands Neil...all the Mod bands I liked were long gone before I even started school.

  • Sorry zips - I should have said Mod Revival.

Who else was on apart from Generation X and The Jam -

go on - jog my memory.

  • I wasn't a Mod Revivalist anyway...but the Marc show Punkers that I saw were Boomtown Rats (Looking after no.1), Radio Stars (No Russians in Russia), Jam (All around the world), Gen X (Your Generation)..someone said the Damned were on but I dont remember? Now Revolver I saw every episode and I think I can remember every Punk group on there..do u need to know that too or are you just testing my knowledge of the era?

  • u seemed to know a lot about your music.thats good i like it when people know the history of there music and there bands.shows that they really care and take some pride in it

  • @ventilize How is this spam I have no idea

  • @sallygirl2066 spam? i dont eat spam.

  • @ventilize Yeah probably

  • Then there was the Damned, Rich Kids and Adverts on the Supersonic Punk special

  • Fairplay zips - you know your stuff!

Go on then - Revolver punk bands

Mind you - don't you dare mention the Showbiz Kids under the same breath as punk!

  • Not all Punk but at the time under the New Wave banner at the time...heres what I can recall..Buzzcocks (Noise annoys), Vibrators (Automatic Lover), trb (glad to be gay/Up against the wall, Rich kids (twice) Ghosts of princes in towers, Rich kids, Jam(David Watts), Boomtown Rats (Dont believe what u read/Like clockwork), Stranglers (Tank), Ian Dury(Billaricky Dickie/What a waste), Hot Rods (Writing on the wall), Elvis Costello(Pump it up/This years girl),Autographs(while I'm still young),etc

  • Boyfriends(I'm in love with today), Motors(Dancing the night away/Forget about you), Only ones(Another girl another planet) I could go on a bit further...I am obsessed with the era still..yes Mod too(but never a revivalist...it came out of loving the jam and later on digging proper r&b and much more a massive influence but always a punk in attitude and at heart)..you should check out my book 'Our Generation'(Amazon/ebay etc)..you will love it!

  • hahaha cool your generation and the drummer is wearing a The Who shirts "talkin bout my generation"

  • Punk bands really loved the Who, who can blame them?

  • NO ONE =)

  • Good punk. Musical and tasteful punk. Very very RockStar Rock Icon-ish. This will continue to get better with age.

  • posers? man its a sex blast! rock 'n roll baby!

  • PUNK @ IT'S BEST, . .FOOLS!!
