  • no one can touch sidney. not armstrong not no one. sidney is the king of improvisation. sidney is the king of jazz.

  • I am sitting over a chair while I watch raining, this a great song ......

  • @voodoochild53 i'm looking for the song, it's familliar to me, but i can't remember .... what's the title ???

  • Magnífico, muchisimas gracias por compartirlo.

  • I really enjoy anytime I listen to it, fabulous.

  • I'm used to Coltrane's soprano, but at times Bechet sounds like a tenor player. His tone is incredibly full and his lyricism. I'm kicking myself for not listening to Bechet more, what a soprano player. I never knew a soprano could sound so beautiful yet mature and weighty. I'm treat my ears and fingers to this, his phrasing is too good to limit to sax players.

  • Interesting sound.. i mean.. that soprano sax sounds like .. trumpet... not just like trumpet but still.. close!

  • His autobiography is amazing! "Treat It Gentle"

  • Just, fabulous. Stunning.

  • Does he know English too?

  • @Abriggs500 He was AMERICAN!

  • Of all the jazz musicians in the world, Bechet was the man Duke Ellington admired the most. And yet, Bechet was one of the very few band members Duke ever fired! Apparently, he was a complete pain in the ass to work with, showing up for gigs only when he felt like it.

  • what instrument is sidney playing?

  • @got2bme619 Soprano Saxophone, by this time likely a Selmer Mark 6.

  • @SamMoff No, Bechet played a vintage Buescher from 1923 which is now in possession of Olivier Franc.

  • This is an example of a jazz great showing how to play a ballad without to many notes. Something that some muscians today need to learn.

  • Sdney bechet spoke creole as he was born in New Orleans, so it would have been easy for him to speak proper french.

  • Did Bechet know how to speak French?

  • @Abriggs500 Listen to the interview in French on my channel.

& thank you, Thierry for sharing this jewel

  • Sidney was very famous in France where he died ..

  • Merci

  • always louis armstrong gets all the credit but to me sidney was as great as armstrong

  • @javijazztazz - I've always thought of Bechet as the be all end all to soprano saxophone, similar to the way Louis was to the trumpet for a period of time. Just as lyrical, just as intuitive, just as good. Maybe even better.

  • @javijazztazz Armstrong changed jazz forever by being the first to implement the solo, and to make jazz swing. Before Armstrong, there was no swing and there was no solos. Mr Bechet wasn't around enough, he spent most of his life in Europe. But you are right, they are both still the best at their respective instruments, many years after their life and death.

  • @shutupxandxdance Before Bechet was "away" from the scene, he recorded with Clarence Williams Blue Five (Wild Cat Blues, Kansas City Man Blues) and he was the first to implement solo in jazz. One year later, Armstrong and Bechet recorded together und Williams' name.

  • Excellent!!!

  • Bechet died one year later, in May 1959.

  • love it...

  • gracias por este video jazzbobob es maravilloso. que viva sidney bechet por siempre.

  • Wonderful! Thanks for posting!
