Gershwin died in July '37 after completing the film. Wikipedia says he wrote the orchestral underscore for the film, so I guess that's that, but I suspect a studio arranger did the first part before it becomes jazzier.
@ciroalb3 and apple2dance04: Part of the swingy sound is because an uncredited (for contractual reasons) Jimmy Dorsey and his Orchestra was sweetening the RKO orchestra. Dorsey bandmember Fud Livingston did the arrangements.
I love this film - any film that has Fred saying "Linda" so lovingly gets my vote! I especially love the steps he does at about 3.20 - talk abaout Johnny Staccato!! What a fantastic dance!!!
I think what makes this dance is his smile when he's playing around with her in the beginning... and when the teasing spreads into her dancing and they both are BRILLIANT!!
It just shows you, the studio new its business. Everything was so professonal, with the best in the business working on a project.

I've seen this many times, but you really have to admire the arrangement. wonder if it was Gershwin's or the Studio's?

Great dance and great song. Only problem is Ginger's aweful dress. It's too long, hides her feet much of the time, and looks like a tablecloth
