I would love to see miller vs sonnen now....Miller was NOT that good of a Ju Jitsu guy back here, this time he was more of a thai boxer. Miller has come a long way in his chokes, he still has bad take down defence but he knows alot mroe when he is on the ground, and sonnen....always has trouble with submissions.

I can't explain it, but I can't stand watching Sonnen fight. I guess I have to say I have respect for his ability to compete and compete well. No he hasn't. He follows the same gameplan. Go in the cage, walks to his opponent and goes for a double leg takedown. After that, ground and pound in opponents guard. Sonnen does that in every fight. All you need is a guy who knows how to sprawl and then Sonnen is fucked.

Ya, Filho and Okami can't wrestle. While Okami is a great judoka, Sonnen was an olympic wrestling alternate. Mark Munoz was a Division 1 wrestler. While that level of wrestling isn't as good, it's still counts as a big threat to Sonnen's wrestling plan in his fights. If a guy knows how to sprawl, sonnen is lost. BTW, Silva is a great striker, but not the greatest of all time. The only reason Sonnen outstruck him as well is because he pounded on him for 4 and a half rounds on the ground.

He needed that loss to convince him to get in top shape and drop to middleweight. I also seem to remember he lost a split decision to Okami. There is no shame in that. If we're being serious here, the greatest striker in MMA history is either Gilbert Yvel, Alistair Overeem, Cro Cop or Cheick Kongo. Being unorthodoxed does not make you the best
If you watch all of those men fight and look at the technique they displayed, argueably one of them gets that title of greatest striker in MMA History. I acknowledge that Silva is a great striker because of how unorthodoxed and flashy he is, but that style leaves him open against wrestlers and great boxers. Prangley was a Division 1 wrestler, but he does not fight like a wrestler. Once he learned BJJ, he threw his wrestling credentials out the window.
I'm serious when I say this, get a wrestler like Mark Munoz against Chael Sonnen who is a great sprawler, Sonnen will have a lot of difficulty. Or even worse, Rashad Evans who was a shitty D-1 NCAA wrestler, but employs great wrestling in MMA.

Sonnen played his strengths well but this is fucking boring, ALL he did was throw Jason down and hold on to him, time after time. Give Jason anymore time and it's gonna be the same thing again and again and again. It was clearly a wrestling match not MMA.
Mayhem is an amazing fighter, you can't take that away from him. He did the same thing with shields, worked off his back, had him caught but it was too late. I know Ifs and maybes don't matter, but if he had 10 more secs in a round he has wins over the arguably the best jiu jitsu guy in the world in shields, and arguably 1 of the best wrestlers sonnen. If he'd won those two fights he's maybe ranked with the top 10 middleweight in the world today.
After reading the bickering about chael and anderson I have something to say. If something seems too good to be true it usually is. Chael was fantastic in that fight. A shit ton of steroids (his testosterone levels were 800% higher than the normal levels according to the test) and your opponent having a broken rib can make even an average fighter look great. Too bad he was roofed up and silva was injured, but he still couldn't beat silva.
Same old chael, double leg takedown and then he don't see nothin wrong with a little bump and grind. Still vunerable in a good jiu jitsu guys gaurd. He hasn't really evolved... Well... At all in the last 7 or 8 years. I mean, his striking has kind of improved, but not much.
Chael is definitely alot better at ground and pound at this point.

Not all wrestlers are boring. It's the wrestlers that grind and lay on people that are boring. As for the grapplers, it's the one who can't finish a fight with all their Jiu Jitsu knowledge that piss me off. Also, the Machida's piss me off too. lol But I agree with you. It's the striking aspect that makes it entertaining.

@jaycw669 do you know what a good MMA fight looks like that? I've seen a lot of boring safety first wrestlers in MMA but Chael Sonnen is definitely not one of them. This is a guy who walked right up to Anderson Silva in the beginning of every round and traded leather with him without so much as a back pedal. He also never lays on guys against the cage, he either completes the takedown or he goes back to striking. He stays busy in full guard, half guard, in the clinch, and standing. C'mon son.

Sonnen played his strengths well but this is fucking boring, ALL he did was throw Jason down and hold on to him, time after time. Give Jason anymore time and it's gonna be the same thing again and again and again. It was clearly a wrestling match not MMA.

Mayhem is an amazing fighter, you can't take that away from him. He did the same thing with shields, worked off his back, had him caught but it was too late. I know Ifs and maybes don't matter, but if he had 10 more secs in a round he has wins over the arguably the best jiu jitsu guy in the world in shields, and arguably 1 of the best wrestlers sonnen. If he'd won those two fights he's maybe ranked with the top 10 middleweight in the world today.

After reading the bickering about chael and anderson I have something to say. If something seems too good to be true it usually is. Chael was fantastic in that fight. A shit ton of steroids (his testosterone levels were 800% higher than the normal levels according to the test) and your opponent having a broken rib can make even an average fighter look great. Too bad he was roofed up and silva was injured, but he still couldn't beat silva.
