Well I like 2001, I think its wrong to paint Kubrick as a utopian humanist who believed humanity had a great future. Nothing in Dr Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, The Shining etc, gives me any impression that he did.
@ApostlePaulofTarsus I don't think Kubrick can be painted to be anything but an enigma. He purposely left opinion out of his films. He just put the facts in. All of his films are based after books anyway, but he manages to take out elements of complete sense. For example, he never establishes WHAT is causing the events of 2001 or The Shining, so that you don't have to believe a certain idea in order to watch it (such as superstitious ghost stories), similar to that.
Just wanted to pass along the word that - while I unfortunately do not have the time to respond to every response I receive - I have been paying attention to feedback such as this, and I appreciate all the time and thought that has gone into the response. Just didn't want anyone to feel that the were ignored. Many thanks.
I recently completed a 9 part rebuttal / response to Confused Matthew's review of 2001. i posted part of it as a video response to your video here but i just wanted to say hello and recommend it to you.. i'd be very interested to know what you think. thanks.
I'd love to hear some reviews of your favorite Criterion Collection films. I'm a big collector myself (though even I had to skip when they put Benjamin Button in the collection. That was bullshit.)
i still dont see how this movie is anything more then a dull, boring and teadous draged out thing, i never made it though this film and the only parts i've seen online is Dave talking to Hal, and even those seem boring and dull to me, so this film is just not for me, at all. Whatever it is ment to be is lost on me I guess.
Ya, I think you need to look at the film for more than you are seeing. I can tell that your attention span is short, but I recommend this to anybody who has doubts about 2001. Robag88 has an extended analysis of 2001, explaining in detail the many themes, messages, and ideas in the movie. You should watch those videos because, even though it's probably not completely true, it'll help you to look for things that you weren't seeing initially. Trust me, it's a good decision.
you are ignorant? I'd add stupid, because you are saying "I don't get it, but I DON'T WANT TO"
You know what? Howard the Duck is probably more suiting for you. Maybe you shouldn't act like 2001 sucks because you don't want to like it, because that just spells out "mentally ill". Maybe you should go watch something really short, stupid, and action packed. Ironically enough, 2001 is RATED G, and it's too mature for you.
@Bassbait wow the personal attacks. Your free to like the movie. and I'm free to say its boring and that i dont want to watch it, nor do i want to watch videos or read books explaining the movie to me. its boring, its going to remain boring. nothing you can do or say will change how boring it is. no videos or books will change the fact that i find it boring. i'm glad you dont, thats your view. its subjective. Its dull. YAWN. I've seen movies that are better. 2001 is not one of them.
@shedininja001 You see? You have no incentive to figure out why others like it. I'll give an example. I DESPISE Pulp Fiction. You know what I do to compensate? I watch it to see if I'm looking at it wrong. I notice many logical flaws in the film, and that ultimately leads me to hating it. The only movie I've ever found boring was Metropolis, and I still liked it. 2001 is a slow film, and you have ADD, so unless you have respect for great movies, you should just stop commenting on these videos.
@Bassbait so let me get this right, when you dont like something you make sure you understand it. You dont like that I find this film boring so you insult me in order to get me to like something I will never like. So you cant even live by your own methids?
@shedininja001 I already understand that you are not responding to any argument made against your case. I'm not insulting you, I'm judging you based on your comments. You say "It bores me", and that has to be attributed to a short attention span. I don't think you are looking at the film for what it is, I think you are looking at the film for what you want it to be. I don't always do that. Sometimes I do, but I tend to give equal effort watching a film as the makers did making the film.
@Bassbait no its not a short attention span, this film is boring. its dull. its bland. theres nothing to it. i dont like it, i'm not going to like it, watching more videos about it or reading more about it will not change this. i'm not going to invest the time. i'm free to say its boring all i want. in fact, i'm going to make a video about how boring it is, right now, thanks for giving me the idea to do that.
@shedininja001 "your" and "evedance" are so wrongly used. You can't use "troll" as an argument. Either think about 2001 before you judge it, or accept that you have a short attention span and go watch Transformers.
@shedininja001 You may find it boring but there are many people who would disagree, can can back their arguments up on an intellectual level can be used to show the problem is with you, not the film or Kubrick. Your free to say it is boring but other people are free to disagree with you
That calendar is wrong. Pelycosaurs appeared before the dinosaurs, not after!

@shedininja001 Why is it dull, bland, and boring then? You never bothered to explain why. That's evidence of a short attention span.
