Fantastic! But please tell me I'm not the only one that wants a 2nd Mrs. De Winter/Frank Crawley pairing? Maxim could just be so moody! And if you read the book, he's even worse! I adore Lawrence Oliver though and he makes for a wonderful Max de Winter.

Thank you, Victoria! Haha 2nd Mrs De Winter/ Frank Crawley isn't an absolutley unthinkable option, I think.. But still: Maxim and his unnamed wife are a brilliant couple. Imagine what he would be like after the ending of the book. We shouldn't forget that he was moody because of a reason. I have to confess I haven't read the book yet.. But I can see your point!

Max just irritates me so though in the film! After 2nd Mrs. De Winter learns the truth, he says, "It's gone now...the child is gone" or something to that extent. It's like he wanted to rob the craddle and once she matured...bleh!

Personally, I like Maxim in the movie and musical, but in the book, I think Narrator/Frank would have been adorable!

YAY! Glad I'm not the only one. In the novel and even the film, Max had this fatherly attitude toward his second wife. "Go on and eat your eggs like a good girl." What is up with that??? You also get the impression after "I" confronts Mrs. Danvers at the end, "I" becomes yet another companion, similar to how she was with Mrs. Van (Grass)Hopper. hehe..I call her Mrs. Van Grasshopper. That woman grates on my nerves but then I suppose that's the idea.

I know...She never even feels equal to him...She keeps talking about how he treats her like Jasper, and I honestly think he does...I was reading a literary criticism of Rebecca, and the writer mentioned that she exchanges companionship for money in Mrs. van Hopper's case and for affection in Maxim's case, but it's the same otherwise...

Not to mention, it takes him until page 267 of my copy to say "I love you."

Did you also get the impression that Frank was in love with her?

Oh indeed! That is what I honestly think - that Max treats her no better than Jasper or a little girl rather than his wife. "Who will you go as? I know! Go as Alice in Wonderland. All you need to do is tie a ribbon in your hair..." BLEH! And whether or not Frank was in love with her, I'd like to believe he was. :D

I love the scene where he asks if she'd dance with him at the ball...So cute! Of course, Frank would be far too correct to say anything, if he did have feelings for her...

Oh, and Maxim's line "A husband is not so very different from a father after all" bugs me. It gives me that "robbing the cradle" impression you mentioned above. XP

Frank's my favorite character by a long shot. The pirate costume! Adorable! I wish he'd been bigger in the musical...

I really do like "Ehrlichkeit und Vertrauen", though, I just wish it wasn't so short! :D I'm so glad he got one solo...and it made me fall completely in love with Frank in the musical and wonder why more men can't see past the way someone looks... *Grumbles about shallowness*

I'm so glad Andre Bauer was cast too! I don't know about you, but I always picture him in the novel. He looks a bit like Du Maurier's Frank...

And I think the way he worries over her at the ball is very sweet.

I've never heard of this singer before but I really loved it. Do you know if he sings the demo version too or is that someone else?

Yes, he is the same singer as on the demo--he just sounds so different in German! Oh...I almost forgot! There's a recording of him singing "Gott Warum?" on here and it's quite good!

I think Frank understood her because he is rather shy and awkward himself, whereas Maxim was never allowed to be that way growing up...

No, André isn't "Frank Crawley" on the English demo. On that he sings the part of "Robert". I don't know who the "Frank" on the demo is, but it's defiantely not André.

And in the musical he is existent on the ball. I know because in every show I only had eyes for him, in his wide open pirate-shirt ^^

I love his "Gott, warum?" too, by the way. I always wanted him for "Maxim" (as Uwes cover, because he is still the one and only on stage :) )

I really don't want to shock you but in the last 2 years I travelled to Vienna 9 times and saw "Rebecca" 22 times :-) For me it's the best musical on earth and I loved the Viennese cast! Uwe, Wietkse, André, Susan, ... - AMAZING!!!
