Enterprise sucked because the captain and the crew sucked. Archer was crap, Tpol was hot but c'mon who finds vulcans entertaining (Spock aside). Trip was trying to emulate Riker but failed horribly and seemed like something out of a GOP convention. The black dude was nothing close to La Forge and defn token. Only Malcolm was cool cuz of the whole proto section 31 secrets link. I'll say this much though, Archer was better than Janeway, she was the crappiest captain ever. But her crew was cool.
... only if you're a real trekkie nerd. It's not a patch on DS9, the music is dull as f*ck and even the lamest scene from Star Wars of Galactica trumps this one...
this is why I like Enterprise, the ship shows damage when it is damaged, Star Fleet is not top of the hill, all powerful and always wining. also if Picards ship took that kind of damage he would run away.
It's the 24th century...and yet all their technology seems to explode and fall everywhere under duress. Surely they would have created non-exploding control panels and other equipment. Or eliminate artificial gravity so stuff doesn't fall and kill everyone.
Weapon tech got better as the years advanced, but defense tech did not. That's why Archer and Kirk could fight all day long, but Picard/Sisko/Janeway's ships were always crippled with a single shot. "Sir, direct hit! The shields are down, the engines are offline, the toilets won't flush, and the dog got out of the back yard!"
In at least this regard, enterprise was much the same as other iterations of star trek, that the ship the main characters on seem to be capable of enduring fucking everything without exploding. However, every single other ship can be blown up by a stiff breeze. You see in many battles, the main ships enduring dozens and dozens of direct hits while ships all around them explode from 1 or 2 photon torpedos or a couple of phaser hits. There seems to be no consistency to it at all, lol.
If only T'Pol could have threatened to use the corbomite device on the Xindi! Even if it doesn't really exist, she could've tried to fool the Xindi anyway.
@nubcaekification its called "I don't give F*cking mokeys cus I know STar trek fans will pay anything to buy this series" its the attitude of paramount on star trek. Thats why it did so badly.
peri2502-and that's when you just take the main deflector dish off line and turn it into a weapon, which also has no effect except to cause massive damage to the main deflector dish itself, leaving the ship defenseless and unable to travel at warp. So basically Federation starships are the ultimate technology for expelling tremendous forces and colossal levels of energy and accomplishing nothing-except the ships own destruction.
@pden94 True, true. And yet in all the other series when they did have shields, Federation ships seem to suffer just as much hull damage as when they had no shields at all. Clearly ablative armor is the way to go as Voyager demonstrated.
@archvampire77 Are you crazy? DS9 ships are tough as nail some have ablative armour plus shields. A single valiant could rape the entire starfleet of Archer's era. It's just Archer's era weapons are very weak while DS9 weapons are extremely powerful.
@TemplarX2 regardless of the correctness of your statement as far as ablative armor and shields, your logic is so damn skewed I'm choking on my recently eaten lunch. Well no dip a DS9 ship could own Archer's era of ships, let alone Kirk's and a good chance that most of the ships around Picard's time wouldn't fare too much better. So explain why in the finale of DS9 these amazing ships are being owned. Once you can do that, yeah, I'm crazy. But it'll just be "Well, derp, firepower is so much more
Now that I think about it, Federation ships are practically death traps. Their shields go down instantly, consoles explode all over the ship even in a minor hit to the main hull. The warp core and nacelles always cause the ship to lose anti-matter containment, and the ejection systems go offline immediately.
Dam xindi I would like them see them go against the Enterprise-E they would be the ones suffering form coolant leaks to bad the federation or united earth is not in the habit of conquering other worlds because someone's got to teach the xindi a lesson

Enterprise is the most underrated series out of all of them. Anyone I talk to who doesnt like it has only seen a handfull of episodes out of order. You need to watch them all in order its basically one long continuing story.
@number1sun I agree with you 100%. The show was it's best in the fourth season. The only exception was the series finale.....I thought it was really bad!
@number1sun Then you don't talk to enough people. I've seen the whole thing, beginning to end on airing. It was by far the worst series, and fucked up the entire Star Trek timeline!!
I cud never get in2 Enterprise as much as the other series, for me it was the ship itself. Inside it looked like it was before Kirk's Enterprise. But the overall design of the ship always looked more like it was made after Kirk's Enterprise lol.
Federation ships also come with state of the art shields that collapse completely after 2 hits. Another safety feature is the warp core that always goes critical and explodes instead of shutting down and ejection systems that always fail at the very moment they need to work. All to ensure no enemy can get their hands on this advanced human technology.
@darrenholcomb42 Cores cant shut down. Just like Nuclear Reactors. In the older ships like the enterprise NX-A-B-C, you had independent phaser batteries. In newer ships D & E phaser power is routed from batteries threw the warp core giving it more range and yield. Thus shutting down will cost you weapons systems and an escape. You can partially shut it down but cold restarts of the warp core take 24+ hours on the most advanced ships. (Warp 2 capable in under 6 hrs) requires another full restart.
@predrag979 ST (TOS) had as "united starship", but you're right, FSS would've been better. probably something to do with TOS coinciding with the carrier USS Enterprise's launch.
@darrenholcomb42 You forget to mention engineers that can pull off 10 hour repairs in 2 minutes, and tactical officers who can invent revolutionary tactics 20 seconds before their ship would be destroyes. Oh and not to forget captains who will only fire their weapons in anger when they are not going to have any effect on the target.
@dorkusmaximus333 There were rumours of colonies and bases disappearing along the neutral zone for a few years before the Enterprise encountered The Borg. It's a bit of a stretch that it was more than 5 years in advance, but it could work. The Hansons were supposed to be somewhat counter-culture, with isolationist tendencies. They were self-employed, in a private ship, and wouldn't report their findings until they could draft a paper, and be sure of the credit.
@staticneuron What makes you think the Borg didn't know about humanity before "Q Who"? They already assimilated the Hanson family in the 2350s (as revealed in "Dark Frontier"), and the Enterprise-B rescued El-Aurian survivors from their world's assimilation in the 2290s ("Generations"). Information on the cybernetic aliens from "Regeneration" (they didn't identify themselves to the NX-01 crew) may have been classified, so Picard wouldn't have known about them.
El-Aurians are not humans. My point is not the humans ability to classify the borg but their philosophy. The sheer fact the borgs sent the subspace message in 'Regeneration' is a sign of interest and that humans were worth to assimilate. AFA I can tell and there is no basis in believing that cochrane would not have done it on his own. The borg bombarding the surface and damaging the p. can be seen as an interruption instead of a catalyst.
@staticneuron What I meant in mentioning the El-Aurians was that humanity was aware of the Borg before Q Who. For the rest of it, I already made my case. The Borg in Regeneration sent the subspace message, 200 years later the Collective in the Delta Quadrant got the message. Then Q sent the Enterprise-D to meet them so that the Feds would have time to mount a defense against the imminent invasion. The Borg already knew about the Feds; Q just made sure the Feds knew about the Borg.
If the captains were more like klingons then startrek would still be a succes. Instead you get hopeless boring stuff about da vinci or shakespeare and the prime directive.
@SweetZombiJesus Actually it was the first Star Trek show since the animated series (which was back in the 70's) that didn't last 7 seasons. TNG, DS9, and Voyager all had 7 seasons.
This is from the episode " Damage" toward the end of season three. The ship survives because Captain Archer who is in Xindi custody at the time convinces three of the five races that make up the Xindi to halt the attack.
@ctchampagne I was wrong. This is the end of the episode " Azati Prime". Damage is the next one when the battle ends. I was confused because they run sort of as a " To be continued."
The original gameboy might have been far less advanced than todays hand held electronics but you could run over it with a truck and it would still function.
@xNikolai :: then my fist packs more of a punch than a truck because I ran it through the gameboy screen and it buckled like a starfleet vessel under attack from the Borg.
To bad the Avenger could not take a beating and survive like enterprise did here. To cut you off yeah the defiant was 100 yrs more advance but the E is being gang raped in this scene.
Lolz when you think about it the enterprise is smaller than the round fired from an Imperial Crueser from the 41st millennium. Proving that as time progresses ships get bigger. Ent to TNG (100s of yrs) ship tipples in size. TNG to battle fleet gothic (25,000 yrs) ship becomes bigger than space stations in TNG.
This ship taking a pounding and surviving is the same crap like voyager always being out gunned and out numbered but always coming out looking better than ever. Mean while the defiant took the full brunt of the borg cube and was set a drift staying alive long enough for the big E to pick up old Worf. Not to mention the beating all the real Enterprises took, Khan hacked the original and she limped back to space dock. And D had a warp core breech and crash landing.
Normally I nitpick away at Starfleet ships for being so structurally unsound and exploding at the lightest touch. In this case though, considering large holes were being blasted through the middle of the ship, all the internal explosions were pretty much justified. Considering it is a Starfleet ship, I think it gets props for not randomly exploding with all that damage.
@re7urd Earth ships have been using "Sparkers" and "Steamers" for years so the crews know bad things are happening. O'Brien was installing them and repairing them daily on the Enterprise D.
I don't remember this episode.
Was this battle royale a dream sequence or something? 'Cause it doesn't look like they're getting out of that one.

Seattlecarnut 1 month ago
I cud never get in2 Enterprise as much as the other series, for me it was the ship itself. Inside it looked like it was before Kirk's Enterprise. But the overall design of the ship always looked more like it was made after Kirk's Enterprise lol.

Federation ships also come with state of the art shields that collapse completely after 2 hits. Another safety feature is the warp core that always goes critical and explodes instead of shutting down and ejection systems that always fail at the very moment they need to work. All to ensure no enemy can get their hands on this advanced human technology.
darrenholcomb42 1 month ago 84
@darrenholcomb42 Cores cant shut down. Just like Nuclear Reactors. In the older ships like the enterprise NX-A-B-C, you had independent phaser batteries. In newer ships D & E phaser power is routed from batteries threw the warp core giving it more range and yield. Thus shutting down will cost you weapons systems and an escape. You can partially shut it down but cold restarts of the warp core take 24+ hours on the most advanced ships. (Warp 2 capable in under 6 hrs) requires another full restart.

why every ship name starting with USS. Its a planet federation, not a United States...
predrag979 1 month ago
@predrag979 ST (TOS) had as "united starship", but you're right, FSS would've been better. probably something to do with TOS coinciding with the carrier USS Enterprise's launch.
raverdeath100 1 month ago
@raverdeath100 Yeah but then it'd be the For Fucks Sake Enterprise, and whilst many a fan cried that out a few times, wouldn't quite work.

@PetrosofSparta FSS not FFS, anyhoo, by that logic USS could be "Utterly Shit Ship" ; )

@darrenholcomb42 Federation ships did not have shields at this time period. But I do agree with your comment.

Their mistake.

Mitchz95 1 month ago
@Mitchz95
The borg bombarding the surface and damaging the p. can be seen as an interruption instead of a catalyst.
staticneuron 1 month ago
@staticneuron What I meant in mentioning the El-Aurians was that humanity was aware of the Borg before Q Who. For the rest of it, I already made my case. The Borg in Regeneration sent the subspace message, 200 years later the Collective in the Delta Quadrant got the message. Then Q sent the Enterprise-D to meet them so that the Feds would have time to mount a defense against the imminent invasion. The Borg already knew about the Feds; Q just made sure the Feds knew about the Borg.

Didn't you know?..... The frame of that ship is built with bones from the 300 year old skeleton of Chuck Norris.

If the captains were more like klingons then startrek would still be a succes. Instead you get hopeless boring stuff about da vinci or shakespeare and the prime directive.
prankster1590 2 months ago
@prankster1590 TNG did well with a diplomatic captain. Voyager lasted several seasons and so did Deep Space 9.
Enterprise was the first Star Trek series since the 80s that did not last at least 5 seasons.
SweetZombiJesus 2 months ago
@SweetZombiJesus Actually it was the first Star Trek show since the animated series (which was back in the 70's) that didn't last 7 seasons. TNG, DS9, and Voyager all had 7 seasons.
Phantom121904 2 months ago
@Phantom121904 That is pretty much exactly what I said, except for that the streak goes back to the animated series, not ToS.

@SweetZombiJesus it may have not lasted 5 seasons but it was two episodes away from 100 Episodes.

This is from the episode " Damage" toward the end of season three. The ship survives because Captain Archer who is in Xindi custody at the time convinces three of the five races that make up the Xindi to halt the attack.

@rstryker27 Aptly named, it would seem.

@ctchampagne I was wrong. This is the end of the episode " Azati Prime". Damage is the next one when the battle ends. I was confused because they run sort of as a " To be continued."

Enterprise NX-01 = Original Gameboy
The original gameboy might have been far less advanced than todays hand held electronics but you could run over it with a truck and it would still function.
xNikolai 2 months ago 5
@xNikolai :: then my fist packs more of a punch than a truck because I ran it through the gameboy screen and it buckled like a starfleet vessel under attack from the Borg.
Shiirow 1 week ago
To bad the Avenger could not take a beating and survive like enterprise did here. To cut you off yeah the defiant was 100 yrs more advance but the E is being gang raped in this scene.
niceguy60 2 months ago
Not sure if it's just this episode or the entire show, but the dramatic music here is soooooo much worse than anything from TOS, TNG, DS9 or VOY.

idk how enterprise survived most of there battles on this show they don"t even have shields.
KaraLVRogueLZ 2 months ago
Lolz when you think about it the enterprise is smaller than the round fired from an Imperial Crueser from the 41st millennium. Proving that as time progresses ships get bigger. Ent to TNG (100s of yrs) ship tipples in size. TNG to battle fleet gothic (25,000 yrs) ship becomes bigger than space stations in TNG.

Coolant leaks all over the place and no Warp Core breach in progress?
FekLeyrTarg 2 months ago
This ship taking a pounding and surviving is the same crap like voyager always being out gunned and out numbered but always coming out looking better than ever. Mean while the defiant took the full brunt of the borg cube and was set a drift staying alive long enough for the big E to pick up old Worf. Not to mention the beating all the real Enterprises took, Khan hacked the original and she limped back to space dock. And D had a warp core breech and crash landing.
kage1979 2 months ago
@kage1979 Well, the ship retained it's damage and they had to steal parts from another ship to survive.
DarkEmergence 2 months ago
Normally I nitpick away at Starfleet ships for being so structurally unsound and exploding at the lightest touch. In this case though, considering large holes were being blasted through the middle of the ship, all the internal explosions were pretty much justified. Considering it is a Starfleet ship, I think it gets props for not randomly exploding with all that damage.
CobaltX07 2 months ago
so they were installing explosives and steam pipes in the consoles even back then .
I thought it was a Enterprise D design flaw ....
re7urd 2 months ago 40
@re7urd wasnt it called explodium?
barmyguy900 2 months ago
@re7urd Earth ships have been using "Sparkers" and "Steamers" for years so the crews know bad things are happening. O'Brien was installing them and repairing them daily on the Enterprise D.
TonixTech 1 month ago 2
@re7urd - I think every Federation ship comes standard with napalm, dynamite, C4, gelignite, and nitroglycerin packed inside the hull and consoles.
