I cannot believe how good this is.After years of rubbish from Evanescence,Limp Bizkit,Flyleaf and Hannah Montana covering Nirvana finally something with as much artistic credibility as the band themselves.I love this. His voice is unreal as well.
@86Munster well behind all their distortion its all pop music, which always fits well with reggae. Have you ever heard reggae covers of the beatles, fits well. most people get so turned by the "angsty, grunge" scene, that they totally ignore how poppy nirvana where like 85% of the time.
Oh god... this is horrible! I have heard quite a few Nirvana cover abominations, but this tips the scale to godawful so hard, even the gods of bad taste would throw up in their collective mouths.
@Haihiru The "Approval" doesn't increase the quality of this cover. I can understand the remaining Nirvana band members doing this as it continues the legacy of the original band... may it be to simply stroke their collective egos or making more cash
And let's be honest, there are tons of better original reggae songs out there without trying to shine in another bands glory screaming, "I want a piece of that good olde (insert random legendary band here) action"
obviously the haters are not artists, or they would understand that a cover is often an opportunity for an artist to re-interpret a piece of work from their point of view.. if you don't like it, don't listen to it, simple as that
@thepotholez I'm sorry, just because I do not swim along your collective opinion, doesn't make me a hater in general. And also, I study the fine arts, which makes you wrong on two levels. You shouldn't shove people into drawers, just to derive them of their opinions. I didn't bash anyone for their opinions here.
Also I can listen to what I want and state my opinion whenever I want.. otherwise this song wouldn't be publicly accessible and open criticism would be banned from this site, no?
you obviously know very little about reggae culture, since it has been based on versioning since rocksteady age pretty much. but yeah, of course you´re entitled to your opinion and criticism. it´s just pretty hard to take it seriously.
i did enjoy it nonetheless and i´m not trying to stop you from doing exactly the opposite. and if you don´t know the difference between "based on" and "done for a long time" it isn´t very hard to see who is the douche here. context, ever heard of it? yo i didn´t try to undermine your opinion at all, you´re entitled to have your own opinion, but you can´t have your own facts.
but please go and enjoy something more suitable for your aesthetics.
@holik666 1: what facts did i bring in except, that i didn't like the music?
2: Stating that "Cover is a,etc" is not a fact, but a pesonal opinion
3: You brought in historical facts into a discussion about aesthetics, which is usually done to show ones superiority in the field of music trying to undermine someone elses opinion, hence my statement about you being a douche
4: I dont tell other people, what they should listen to, why do you?
5: your nitpicking about my statement makes you a douchè
@holik666 Sorry for taking so long to answer, but this discussion is not really important to me, but as I am a courteous person, I feel obliged to tell you of your douchedom
1:facts have nothing to do with personal aesthetics which define individualism
2:it is natural to inform yourself about something you like, that makes you like everybody else
3: Actually using that knowledge against someone, who just stated that he doesn't like the music, or the way it is handled makes one a douche
@TheMistamu - they don't need to stroke their egos or get anymore money. They were never those sort of artists anyhow. This is really creative I think. This is neat no one is trying to steal anyone else "glory" or rip anyone off, its simply an artistic reimagination for fun.
@PieceofMindmusic not that i want to burst your idealistic bubble, but if you inform yourself, you would know, that there are fixed rates for "covering" certain songs in the music business, And how do you know, that they are not "those" sort of artists? I like Nirvana a lot, but I do not personally know any of them to make that kind of statement... i only know, they got lots of money.
also, i never said "steal their glory", please read carefully before posting.
@willem01 I guess youre from holland, arent you? Well me too. But whatever, let's get back to the point. The point is that he's covering the demo version of Sliver, and in that version Kurt uses the lyric 'My grandpa had a cigarette, it touched my arm on accident' and he changed it for the album version :)
@Lenjaful im realy not following you....i know he changed it for the album version, like i sad i my original comment...(i said i thought he changed it so he wouldn't insult his grandfather)
And in your comment you also say "he's covering the demo version of Sliver" wich he's not....irealy dont get what you're trying to say.
I've never used itunes, always beatport, juno, ithink, bandcamp etc.. I can't find any FLAC option... :( I don't BUY LOSSY MUSIC I'm sorry. What about oceania vinyl distribution, where is the nearest shop with it..
@Freshadeneu oh you must have access to Kurts lyric books. The fact is the lyrics were never printed. Killed my toad does make more sense. wtf does killed my toe mean?
@h879xx Uh, no dumbass. If you listen to ANY OTHER VERSION OF THIS SONG, you'll find it's not TOAD. He's speaking through the eyes of a child, killed my toe makes perfect sense and why is his toad at his grandmas? Killing your TOE is a reason for asking grandma to go home. Go listen to the acoustic version thats linked to this version. He says toe. Toe. That's what it is. Sorry.
@Freshadeneu I never said it was toad my weird internet friend. I'm saying nobody knows. There's always some freak on every comment page. On this one it is you. I don't come here to argue with nerds or talk shit to people. In reality if you called me a dumbass I would smash your fucking teeth down your throat but you go ahead and hide behind your computer. No one cares.
@Freshadeneu I always thought it was "I killed my toad." The other one, "I killed my toe," just doesn't seem right. Usually when you ride your bike you kill your knee. Idk.
@chaseduran Yes, it is. Think about it. Kurt had pet turtles--probably had pet toads as a kid too. So It seems more likely that killing his toad would be more significant to him in a song about having a bad time at his grandma's than, say, stubbing his toe while riding his bike. How does one do that anyway?

@holik666 "based on versioning since rocksteady age"
just because a music culture has been doing it for a long time, does it make it better?
and if you really couldn't take it seriously, you would've ignored my post like so many others and just enjoyed the music.
but here you are trying to undermine my aesthetic thinking with superficial knowledge about music history.
I do not critisize others for liking this song... just stating my point.
But you,sir/ma'am on the other hand, act like a douche

now i am acting like a douchè because i`m replying you once more.
1. none.
2.true. but it is customary to have an opinion based on something. personally i like facts and context.
3. historical facts tend to be a factor to the aesthetics of a genre.
4. i did´t. i was suggesting you´d listen to something more pleasing, but if you´re into masochism, do that then.
5. you had no point.
