  • Costello sounds wonderfully vibrant and thrilling - a bit buried by the end, but nice. However this is one SERIOUSLY fucked up staging - that green fairy with the enormous codpiece; the clumsily prancing - who can take this seriously? No one thought this was a "bad idea?" Really?

  • AHAHAHAHAH!

But this is sad... Where is the opera world going to?

  • Perhaps youtube should have a gong show contest since this a sure winner. Was the idiot that directed this a monkey froim the zoo. Costello should have walked off after discussing, in less than the Queen's English the insanity of this production.

  • Come on! Someone should shot the band's director, the producer and those "dancers". Rigoletto is supposed to be Opera and not Circus instead! Costello is good but -imho- still has a long way to go; nevertheless: bravo.

  • Frankly I'd have refused to sing with those absurd fat dancers jumping in front. What are they supposed to signify anyway. His singing is ok but he has a long row to hoe before he becomes a star. People expect to hear the high D, even though Verdi didn't write it. In fact Verdi would probably be rolling in his tomb if he knew what abortions modern stage directors make of his beautiful operas.

  • OMG- great singing but how could he have kept a straight face with those dancers prancing all around him- this could have been right off the set of an I Love Lucy rerun.

  • Forget the production. Listen to the voice. Not many tenors even sing this. He just won the Richard Tucker award!

  • And this is absolutely the reason I would never attend an opera today.

  • Awful production!

  • great voice, ridiculous production....

  • lamentable la puesta en escena k asco

  • Stephen Is just incredible, but the director needs to be shot. Where the hell is this?!?!

  • Okay....now the lords-a-leapin' is a bit odd...gotta admit it.

  • WHAT in GAY hell was jumping around him? ! LOLOL that was horrible, and so HORRIBLE! lolol i am in berlin, and didnt get to see him perform. too bad

  • @blktenorpower Please don't gays for this we have, in general, more taste.

  • Y-E-S ! !!!

  • I'm guessing Berlin (Deutsche)

  • The rise of a great tenor continues. The voice is maturing and the interpretation, at least to me, seems more personal. Foregoing the high D at the end allowed for an extended note, which sounded great. It also bodes well for a long career. Of course, I'm no expert, so I look forward to other comments. Where was this performance?
