He's about 20 years old (maybe more depending on how old he was when I bought him). He's just old and may have arthritis or something. He doesn't swim like he used to. Been like that the last 5 years or so---got that way gradually.
It's not sad at all---she's the happiest frog I've ever seen! She can swim all over the place like the other frogs could never do. She loops circles over them. She's graceful like a ballerina---an underwater dancer! She's also very docile and friendly and lets me pick her up more readily than the others.
I have always thought that there is something special about the creatures that are different from the norm (afterall, I'm one of them!).
She is deformed in some way (since birth). Since a tadpole, she has always turned in all kinds of crazy directions---she doesn't stay flat like the other frogs. She things "flat" is sideways with her left side down, usually being supported by with her left foot. It was originally a brain issue, but now it seems that her body is actually growing in a rather warped manner because of the way she uses it. Although I guess that too could be genetic. All I know is she's the coolest frog ever!
