She starts off with a bollywood like song and dance so I figure there is something wrong with the costume, but then she starts bellydancing so now i think the music is all wrong... if she wanted the audience not to get mixed up and do some fusion, she probably should have not worn a typical bd dress and used some conteporary fusion arab/indian music.
There are a lot of moves in bellydance that quite possibly originate from India, for example snake arms, head slides, even some of the different types of spins. Indian dance takes so many forms. There are some dances that may not use hips but there are many Indian dances that actually DO use the hips.
Belly dancing does NOT originally comes from the middle east. It originally came from Africa, but of course like everything else the Arabs stole from Africans, (for instance those long white robes you seem them wearing) they got the credit for it.
Belly Dancing comes from mostly the tribes that inhabitated present day Arabia, Mediterrean, and Africa-- not central Asia. It might have gotten there thanks to the Mongols though and the ancestoral traveling there but it's roots are with the Afro-Semitic regions of the world. India has its own form of dancing. Belly dancing is not Arabic. I am a professional belly dancer and if you know anything about the history of belly dance, it is more ancient than the arabs. It is middle eastern, meditteranean and Central Asian.

Belly danceing comes from arabia the indians don´t belly dance, they dance diverent.
They don´t dance with their hips.
