  • you can get injured like that and your front foot will open a little bit its natural...your gonna screw up big time listinin to this dude

  • great drill for all the people that only think power this is good because you dont open up so wide and lose your balance and bail or step away from the pitcher and power comes from a load and a planted back foot and hip rotation and alot of power comes from how you hit the ball in the sweet spot or meat of the bat.

  • man if you teach kids on your team to hit like that its gonna look like a bunch of pussys you wont get any power from that swing

  • LOOK UP PERRINE BASEBALL ADRIEN#24

  • Ted Williams had a front foot angle of 78-degrees, not closed off at 90 like you guys are saying. It should open a little, up to 45 degrees, to allow full hip rotation.

  • Either hes wrong or my coach is wrong.... my coach told me TO rotate my front foot to gather more power so u can swing ur arms with ur hips harder

  • yes, you want to keep your front side closed to contact, but the rest of the mechanics demonstrated here were shit and he hits a weak ground ball to prove it.

  • front foot was good but there is no weight on the back foot

  • Where can i get a tee like that. I found how to make them but id rather buy one. those are the best tees u can get

  • Look at almost any pro's swing at the point of contact and you'll see their front foot closed. They may open up afterwards, but at the point of contact, their foot is exactly in the position he describes in the vid.

  • Please amature coaches and parents, since there are no rules or guidelines for Tutorials Videos on youtube, you must stop and look at your video instruction and compare it to a PRO Ball Players instructional video. This will show you how much you don't know and hopefully the VAIN wannabee coaches to kids will turn off their video cameras and just watch your kids play ball. You missed your chance and no one wants you on their PRO TEAM, so stop wasting your time and ours, who are want good vids.

  • If your front foot is completely closed off like that, you will get jammed on inside pitches. Try to keep that foot closed, and take about 10 straight inside pitches. Your hips cannot open up enough. I like the concept of not lunging forward, but not at the expense of jamming yourself up.

  • People don't understand how hard it is to change your swing if you have been swinging like that for years!

  • Terrible drill...another example of who not to watch on you tube.

  • at 1:16 all he's thinking is, please don't miss the tee, please don't miss the tee.

  • Stiff front side creates bat speed. I like the Idea of the bucket because it builds muscle memory for a short stride, short stride equals a short swing. Good drill don't worry about the couch potatoes that never played making comments. Anyone that played and has coached will see the value of what your teaching.

  • Sliddyone oh Sliddyone, how retarded. core creates the bat speed! Stiff front leg is a STIFF FRONT LEG..LOL. Bucket for Muscle memory huh???.LMAO.....That's the silliest comment I've heard..LOL. So I guess you'll agree that your front foot doesn't TWIST either huh????.LOL...My 7 year old SON even said his foot needed to twist on his swings... NOW WHAT?? COACH??....LOL... The bucket drill is 110% BAD FOR you... Bucket drill is only good for having the kids go get the balls once they hit them!!...

  • Average stride length (measured from the belly-button forward) is about 17 inches. As long as you can stay balanced with good posture, keep hands back and then be on time, stride length personal.

  • All I heard was blah blah blah front foot blah blah blah closed blah blah.

  • then you missed some great information...

  • look at bonds hit how does he create his great stretch and fire.you dont want to close offf the stretch against the hands by landing then swinging.the swing is launched off the backside the front foot blocks ,,this promotes shifting then swinging.

  • @wogdoggy thats not why bonds is a great hitter. He's a great hitter because he has creates torque with better forces applied to the bat pre-swing, so he turns in his back elbow, creating circular arc with the bat and keeping the same angle of his arms from the the start of the swing to the contact made with the ball, creating seemingly perfect angles, and incredible forces applied to the ball.

  • @noahmcdx yeah he gets his hands flat while applying torque to them like every great hitter does..but without stretch its all hands

  • @noahmcdx that and a whole lot of steroids!

  • didnt semm like a very good hitt???

  • thankyou i agree everybody knows you have to fire your hips.

  • All the "professionals" that watch these videos and critique are obnoxious. The guy is just trying to teach the basics, probably to grade schoolers, for f***s sake.

  • you should be swinging down thru the ball, that is what creates the most distance via backspin... thats why they put strings on a baseball! Simple physics...

think about it like hitting a golf ball. but on a different plane...

  • foot stays at a 45 degree man. comon. nice metal bat to.

  • Horrible!! Not a good drill at all and an even worse outfit! Lock up your front side? This would be a nice drill if every pitch were thrown on the outside corner! Is this guy a coach?

  • BAD DRILL....!!.... Kids need to learn that that front foot will twist while the swing through.... No wonder you grounded out.... Bottom line....... Front foot "DOES NOT" stay at the angle you show... Very bad for knee..... Bucket Drill???..... No good!.... Try again.

  • Hahaha!!!

  • hahaha nice groundout

  • if you keep teaching other kids to swing that way, my son will have a better chance of making it to the show.

  • nice one dude, this guy needs some coaching himself, im 13 and even i know that hip rotation and torque create batspeed and that batspeed is the root of power

  • terrible.. there is no hip rotation.. thats how brian schinder swings and he sucks

  • @LxP1123 hey he's better then u at least brian is in the mlb dumbass

  • @LxP1123 thats not true. You can rotate the back hip with out opening the front foot. Its after the point of contact that the front foot comes open. If you open the front foot before contact point it causes the bat to pull off the ball. If you look at any pro batter you will see that the front foot is closed at contact point.

  • you are kind of swinging down on the ball and i know alot of coaches are teaching this but i just dont like it. A ball never crosses the plate on a level plane. I think you need to have a slight uppercut.

  • Wow, way to much of a stereotype

  • kobe bryant is the bst baseball player

  • heilman your a real dipshit, pros are far more advanced in baseball than college. they all have a different relaxed point but the swing is same techniques.

  • i never said they were worse you fuck, i said they dont play the game right

  • Ohh my ass your a fucking dipshit

  • College Players play the game to have fun, pros play for the money and go for the long ball hardly ever use small ball ne more, ik what im talking bout, so stfu

  • grounded out. lol

  • Hahahaha

  • This guy is an idiot....watch MLB hitters as they rotate their hips....front foot rolls over onto outside edge.....moron!

  • MLB players have the most pressure to succeed. It makes no sense that they play the game wrong and are just athletic. If that were the case, then guys that play the game right and are athletic would quickly beat out the guys that play it wrong with the same athletic talent.

  • ur wrong on that one

  • agreed

  • good drill, but i have to say.. Keeping your front side as closed as you were showing it will take away more power than it will give you. But i understand where you're going with this video. Finally someone who has an understanding of baseball.

  • i luv baseball so much thank you

  • good drill, but was that a change up cus it seemed you stepped into it, then hesitated.......then swung?

  • golf aint got nothin on baseball.

  • cool accent you got their

  • thanks...I think we can both use some English review.

  • i wish i know how to talk like a guy from new york

  • I'm flattahd. 'm from Juyzey. I thought you KNEW already.

  • are you sure people from NJ talk like the yanks from Le'Bronx?

  • Hey ya got not choice. It's a tristate thing. People in NJ go to work in New York. The culture rubs off, eventually.

  • seems like a good drill, ill try it

  • Yes, but you're talking about a Hall of Famer and arguably the best hitter MLB the last 15 years. Many of thes ecaliber players execute out of conventional practice. Look at Vlady Guerrero, another great hitter who has very questionable techniques. BUT, like Manny, he overcomes whatever unconventional techniques with his tremendous athletic abilities. True there are many ways to skin a cat. But there are also certain ways that are better or more effective than others.

  • You are talking about "optimal" mechanics with the lower body to produce optimal torque. To really appreciate what a good base can do, have your hitters hit in there stocking feet on a gym floor and watch the adjustments they make to optimize their balance and power. The hitter will want to make some adjustments naturally so as not to fall over and lose bat control. Just a thought.

  • That's an excellent drill.

  • I believe what you are teaching is an excellent drill and I would refer to it as a "pre-contact" skill. Yes, in "post-contact" we do see hitters roll over their front foot but most if not all great hitters have a somewhat closed foot on contact. I think many visitors are right in what they are saying, but I think it is important to clarify the drill as a "pre" or "on" contact mechanic. To that end, I think the bucket drill is key to teaching that part of the hitting mechanics.

  • This drill is more for younger players to stay behind the ball and prevent them from flying open too soon. Obviously at the higher levels you'll need to drop your front heel through contact and release afterwards.

  • They (Manny & Co.) roll the front foot as you said but they DON'T rotate toe toward pitcher. There is a big difference.

  • That's because they stride with an open front foot. Meaning they have the toe pointed between the 1st baseman and the pitcher if they are righthanded. They do not keep there front side closed with toes pointed toward the plate.

  • Did you know that the best hitters in baseball end up rolling the front foot? This is a natural release. Why do so many people restrict the natural hitting movement? Have a look at Manny Ramirez and tell him he should block his front side robbing him of power and bat speed.

  • Yes, but you're talking about a Hall of Famer and arguably the best hitter in MLB the last 15 years. Many of these caliber players execute outside conventional practice. Look at Vlady Guerrero, another great hitter who has very questionable techniques. BUT, like Manny, he overcomes whatever unconventional techniques with his tremendous athletic abilities. True there are many ways to skin a cat. But there are also certain ways that are better or more effective than others.

  • I wouldn't necessarily say that they hit well because of athletic talent. In baseball, people have to have their own unique way of getting in a rhythm and adjusting basic mechanics to their preferences. So many instructors turn kids into "robots" by banning anything out of the basic mechanical movements. A successful player knows the balance between personal comfort and solid fundamentals.

Ex: Sheffield wags his bat, Youkilis dances in the box, Jeff Bagwell stepped back with his front foot, etc

  • i couldn't agree more

  • thanks.
