JUST MISSED!!! "Play Me" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 11 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1972. This song followed Mr. Diamond's "Song Sung Blue", which peaked at No. 1!!!

I've been a Neil Diamond fan all my life. This song...his guitar imploring him to play it. Together he & his guitar made such beautiful harmonic music...keep playing her Neil.
Once I thought this were the musical theme of the movie "Brother sun, sister moon"... Well, I was a little child then. By the other hand, this song is one of the most beautiful ones of Neil.

PINCH ME ! WOW ! so genuis. so amazing. so much talent. no judges needed to move him to the next round. Thank you Mr Diamond, you made my Mom very very happy in the day. She has since passed on but your music always reminds me of my Mom and I too became a fan. I even took my Mom to see you. In 1986, Mom as working and i walked up to her and handed her two tickets to your concert that night in Dallas. We went ! it was magical. Thank you !
Thank you for the post. Neil Diamond is one of the greatest and most charismatic stage performers and writers of music that we have ever produced. Some people don't think that he is a great singer, but I love him and his voice is so intriguing.

Recently found myself loving his song Play Me. I grew up hearing his songs at my Aunt's home nextdoor but as a child it didn't mean anything. As an older person now, it's heart touching and soothing.......
Why did it take 20 years for the Rock N Roll hof to figure out what the rest of the world has always known about Neil Diamond? It makes their voters look alot worse than it made him look to omit him for so long.
My dad used to play his casette tapes on long drives on the motorway, used to have all these songs including this. Funny because we used to make fun of him for playing the same song again but... Now I miss them.
I heard this song on the radio today—and I fell in love with it. I tried to look it up but came back with the cliché trash most of us listen to today.
It's nice to know that this song is still listened to today and admired by many; I can only wish I grew up during this time.
I heard this song in the grocery store on Sunday and have had it running in my mind and heart ever since... places, people and things that happened 25 or 30 years ago have sprung back into memory with every replay. So much water under the bridge... The power of music to energize the mind and soothe the soul is phenomenal.
Very much a tune I can weep to in happy sadness!..My father (R.I.P.) used to sit on the end of my bed with his guitar and sing me to sleep many nights with this!...many years on after his death..this tune still cannot fail to bring me to tears..MANY thanks for uploading and sharing this precious song.

The scene of the fool moon came back in my mind while I was dancing with her. It was so romantic. Still in love
@nerapsd Great Story !! And, thanks to Neil, your story has a soundtrack... Thanks for sharing it. Hello from a fellow Neil Diamond fan who understands...
i have been listening his songs for more than 30 years and this song in particular has always been one of my absolute favorites.
after all those years of living alone with no one to love i met domi and all of a sudden i realized why i love this song so much - it says everything i want to tell her, i need to tell her, i need her to know.
I am very much in love with my Boyfriend David....when I hear this song I think of him and I together and it brings tears to my eyes. This and Barry Manilows song Somewhere in the night always made me feel warm and loved. I listen to them and am thankful to have a man feel so much love for me that songs like these make me cry.
Like many others, my dad was the one who introduced me to Neil Diamond's music, and I am forever indebted to my dad for that. It's been so long since my dad left this world to be with God, and I will always miss him. But whenever I feel the need to be close to him, I can just turn on some Neil Diamond, and there he is. I take comfort inthe fact that I know we will see each other again someday. I love and miss you, Daddy. You are with me in everything I do.
Fuck, i hate this. it makes me cry every time i hear this song and think of my lost loves. now i'm lonely and old. i have nothing. i should have kept the love, any of them, instead of thinking i could do better or get more. i regret ALL i have done. c....
This man is a living legend. I grew up with his music which was very much influenced by my late father also. Its a beautiful reminder of what one can still hold onto, and know that it's yours and yours alone.
@nobleswitchman my father still alive but far from where i live and and havent seen him for years,.,, i feel the same you do mate!!! at least im not the only one... we have to thank them to introduce us to this good real music!!! have a good day.... and remember that when good people past away they go to a better place than earth!! ;) best wishes...
So many beautiful words coming from one beautiful man's mind. I was 12 when he came out with Solitary Man. I was in love with him. I'm still in love with his music.
Looking through a few comments...made me smile to see others commenting about fathers who have passed but whose memories are stirred with this tune, my father used to play this on his acoustic sat on my bed to lull me to sleep..happy times that I cherish and miss every day!
Beautiful tune and beautiful memories..Thank you for posting.

So many beautiful words coming from one beautiful man's mind. I was 12 when he came out with Solitary Man. I was in love with him. I'm still in love with his music.

The darkness and despair that I feel in this song makes it more beautiful than any other love song I have ever heard.
