It's a sad day for New Zealand when there is more sense being said in this youtube comments thread than from our media and spokespeople - ignorance veiled as common sense.
Public movements are meant to be grown from the will of the people - not the bank accounts of the Business Roundtable. Advertising a protest on national TV is the strongest reason to not attend it.
Sorry louisebee, your attempt to justify an undemocratic crime that was the anti-smacking bill fails from the get go. The original s13 already criminalized that woman for beating her child. Now all you've done is criminalize good parents too. A truly horrible injustice and yet you support it.
Yep, I do. I'm glad to be a part of the rational people who want to see child abuse in this country lessened.
I've seen some horrible things happen to kids in my job, and anything at all to protect them gets thumbs up in my book. Now they have the rights of adults in a court of law.
Sorry, granman, a parent just got punished for beating her child with a hose. She couldn't use Section 59 to escape the punishment. Already it's worth it.
I'm glad you're grateful for being smacked. But this law is to protect children from parents who can't tell the difference. With our child abuse rates being the highest in the developed world, you can't claim for a second that our country doesn't need to fix this.

Had my dear parents bought me up the same way today as they did back when I was a kid they would be criminals... That is utterly unconscionable and an pure injustice. I am grateful for the discipline I received. I'm glad they loved me enough to give me a smack when I needed it. Too bad that you would have taken that upbringing away from me under some ridiculous delusion that it was child abuse... I love my mum and Dad dearly. Thanks M&D, I couldn't ask for better.

By the way, TV ad isn't spelled "add".

I love John Key so much for this. Good on him for looking out for the children.

John Key is treating you like naughty children because you're idiots.
