  • really nice :) video i have a corn and hes 3ft

  • i was holding my berdi while whatching this getting an iguana and corn snake soon thanks for telling me how do take care of 1

  • Nice vid I'm hoping my mom will let me get one lol

  • how do i convince my mom to get me one

  • @71111joey go to petsmart.com and click the bar at the to of the website that says reptiles and pick the snake you want and there will be reveiws of the snake and last time ichecked all the reveiws (srry if i spelled it wrong) have been good about the snaakes it worked for me :D

  • really nice care vid. im hoping on getting a corn morph.

  • @SuperReptilekid Thank you :) I hope you enjoy your corn when you get him/her ;)

  • how often do you have to clean them out like every week or month?

  • @MrAngusfrancis I spot clean every time I feed my snakes (every 7 days) and I do a whole cleaning of the terrarium about once a month.

  • How much for a corn snake?

  • Wow..... 5-6 days is a lot for a snake. We used to feed our snake twice a month. Great video!

  • @Macncheezeness Really? every single person ive asked said every seven days. :o Is it really big and old? Cause then I can understand

  • also, sorry for leaving anoher comment, but how offten should you completly change the bedding? I read that you're supposed to scoop some clumps out like you would cat litter, but obviously that only last so long. Thanks in advance. :)

  • well i clean my snakes complete set up every one to two months. whatever works for you

  • thanks for the reply well i just called a local pet sore and said corn snakes 10-20 dollars and the albino corn snakes were 30 dollars i'm thinking to getting one. and also the rat snakes were the same

  • lucky!! there like 60 dollars around here.

  • @teardrop4444 oh thanks i wanted to get one but they were still babys i wanted a bid adult ...lol

  • how much do corn snakes cost

  • Depending where you live and where you go to buy the corn, they can vary in price. Also the color or (morph) of the snake also plays a factor..If you go to a reptile convention you can usually get a nice normal or amel or even a snow corn for anywhere from 15-20 dollars. If you go to a major pet store you might spend anywhere from 30 to 50 dollars..best of luck to you :)

  • @dione707 they are cheep they are like $20 to $50

  • I also have a corn snake, around five months old. Do I really did aspen bedding or can I stick to the Reptile bark?

  • aspen is best that or centerfresh. Its super cheap and corns love burrowing in it=]

  • how big does the cage have to be if got 2 corns in same cage

  • You really shouldn't house any kind of snake together with another..Snakes by nature are not social and do not like the company of another. This causes them to be in a constant state of stress and could cause several issues with temperment and feedings.. If you really want 1 tank for 2 snakes I would say get a 50 gallon long and put a divider in the middle..so each snake will have a descent amount of space..

  • thanks!

  • It goes right under the tank actually..just make sure the tank is held up a few inches from the UTH so that for 1. it's not being crushed by the tank..and for 2. The air can vetilate along the uth which helps it..you could stick it to the bottom of the tank but this can become quite an issue when you need to clean the tank..what I do is I wrap it in tin foil and just lay the uth right under the tank... :0)

  • Is the under the tank heater the only source of heat that a cornsnake needs?

  • The UTH is the best choice for heating the tanks of corn snakes..their very simple to use and very reliable when hooked up to a thermostat...Just always make sure you have them hooked up to a thermostat as an un-regulated UTH can go over 100 degrees within an hour..which is wayyy to hot..

  • woah. in germany you have strict rules to keep snakes ins terrariums. a corn snake MUST have the size 120cm long 60cm deep and minnimize 60cm high x.x i hate this rulez

  • Wow... lol

  • thats a big waterbowl. lol

  • I know I know...lol

  • just go with a uv light, my corn snake loves them

  • UV lights dry out the tank and can cause the snake to have some shedding problems, also since corns are nocturnal, I like to just let them have the sunlight from the window come in and that is their light..for heat I strictly rely on the heat pad, but that is just my preference..People have used lights for snakes and there is no true danger to it, It's just all a matter of preference..

  • yea, but u never want to put a caged animal near the window, the uv from the sun concentrated like that will actually damage the snake, where as if u got a uv light, just mist the container every now and then

  • UV rays dont travel through glass... well it does but glass filters a lot of it out

  • yea, ur right, but theres something that kills them faster when u put them in the window. i know from personal expierence as well as my friends. the window = bad news. but its all up 2 u

  • well ya but also if you put them next to a window and their in an aquarium, it could get very hot in their cage which could kill them.

  • thats true too, but it all leads down to dont put them near a window

  • uh, you need a light, much more substrate, and yeah corns do climb, mine does all the time. so does my bp.

  • Since corns are nocturnal creatures and more so get their heat from the rocks they rest on when basking, they tend to get their heat from below and not the direct light, so a heat pad does the job just fine for some snakes (corns, ball pythons, kings, etc). A light dries out the tank very quickly and thus can cause some shedding problems when the snake is trying to shed. A light can be used, but a heat pad is just as good and helps keep a little humidity in the tank.

  • you could use an infrared light... they cant see those.

  • That's true, thank you for reminding me..And this is why I encourage people to not only watch the video..look at the comments because there's probably always going to be something I missed :0)

  • whered u get that box hide

  • From a reptile convention I attend every 2 months in PA :0) Their pretty cheap..only like 4 bucks :0)

  • That tank is far to small ... corns want to CLIMB!

  • Corns are not climbers..though they can climb and do posess the ability to do so..It is very rare you will ever see them too far off the ground..in the wild you have a much higher chance finding a corn under a rock or log then up in a tree..I put the branch in there to give my snake some climbing room, but I know he doesn't need any more then that..

  • Great Video!

  • Thank you :0)

  • just use bottled water or fill and treat a bottle of water then u wont have to worrie about takein the water bowl in and out after cleening and u wont spill any water eater

  • I've now started to take the water bowl out..clean it and put it back in empty..I then just fill it while it's in the tank with bottled water..that seems to be going much better..lol

  • Good video! It helped with my baby, Jynx.

  • Glad it helped :0)

  • is that a 3 foot tank?

  • yes

  • youve got some pretty handy tips,

but one fault in this one too,

the water bowl shouldnt be too big/spacey as the snake will see it as another habitat such as its hides and bathing too long can cause skin problems etc.

but other then that well done (y)

and been as people are listening to you

mention about heated rocks being bad for the snakes in another vid of yours :)

  • I did mention in the video that that particular water bowl was pretty big and that I was going to be getting a smaller one. You are right about the heat rocks and I do thank you for that bit of information...As I did forget to mention it...

  • Hey i am getting a corn snake soon but i am not sure on were the best price is. Any ideas?

  • petco they sell them for 50 dollars for babys

  • i bought mine for 17 bucks, i got a deal becouse i bought a bigginers kit which included all the basics. everything was about 80 bucks.

  • hey i got one at a reptile show for 30 bucks, its a snow :)

  • 40 bucks now but it might different where you live

  • can i use a red light instead? i hear they cant see the red light and gives them the same amount of heat

  • You can use a red light as you have heard correctly. Snakes cannot see black light so it shouldn't affect their day/night schedule.. :0)

  • uhmm snakes dont drink water they obsorb it throu there skin and scales...

  • Umm...I'm sorry to say you are mistaken..snakes do indeed drink water and should have a fresh clean supply ready to them at all times. desert lizards such as bearded dragons and uromastyx are the reptiles that absorb water through their skin and scales.

  • This was me under my friend's name..sorry for the confusion..

  • cool

  • One very small observation: In my corn snake's tank I try not to put the hides up against the glass. My amel doesn't always use the "door" so I leave a little bit of room between the hide and the glass so she can burrow under the aspen to get into the hide from the side. She doesn't always recognize the "doors" the way that I intend.

  • Wow great videos about your snakes u have inspired me and so have all snakes and i am getting a corn snake too! thanks and have fun : )

  • Hey ladypicies20,

just to let you know..corn snakes dont live in forests..just so you know..they live in most of florida and the everglades and other states but not in the forest

  • Actually they can be found in forest land as well. They are found along most parts of the Eastern United States such as in FL and PA. They can be found in various habitats such as forest, swamp land, and rocky areas.

  • for day time alturnitive to a light use a ceramic light just adding to the fact about the light on at all the time you are very you will almost never see him durring the day if you have a light on

  • Hey, im a Begginer in snakes and im getting my first snake which is a corn next week but i need 2 set up my vivarium first couple of questions, where do i need to put the probe for the thermometer? and if i had a thermostat surly i dont need a thermometer with a probe? also i have a heat mat and a uv light is that ok?

    cheers

    emily

  • Hello and congrats on getting a snake. Alright first off..Even though you do have a thermostat I still recommend a thermometer. The thermostat will control the temp. but you need to know what the temp is, some thermostats won't tell you what degrees it's at so if it doesn't then definitely get a thermometer. You would put the thermometer probe under the bedding right over the glass where the uth is. The heat mat is good, unless it gets really cold in your house you don't really need the light...

  • If he doesn't like being touched you should try to handle him daily. make your actions slow and don't touch around his head

  • Actually I've been doing just that! He's really come along greatly..He's still a little jumpy at first but once he's out of the tank he really starts to calm down. I have grown to love him as much as Maize :0)

  • Nice to hear it, well done

  • Thanks for the vid it helped a lot

  • ^o^ aww, you're so cute. i want a carn snake that watches TV with me!

  • thank u so much

  • No problem...I didn't even notice till now that I responded under my friend's account...lol..Hope my videos were informative to you and thank you for watching :0)

  • i love your video it is the most instructional video i have seen yet. when do u have the heater on in the day or night. and for badding is sand all right because that is what the pet store lady told me to get?

  • I have my under tank heater on 24/7..this way the snake always has a chance to warm up or cool off depending on what it feels. I would definitely NOT recommend sand as it can get in between the snake's scales and cause infections plus the snake could also injest it while picking up scents with it's tongue. Of all the beddings I am most against using sand. Aspen is a prime choice as is repti-bark or just some paper towels..much safer for the snake and easier to clean up :0)

  • one thing i didnt like much the lag has 2 sides so he dont feel as safe of you cover up that side with a cloth i think he be fine other wise they do not like it

  • I usually have it right up against the back glass of the tank..and with his new background on the back glass..He now has 3 sides covered..He does like the other hide better though and I have noticed that..My other snake Maize likes both her hides..the cave and the log..so it really depends on the snake..

  • Thank you for the great instructional video. I am considering getting a corn snake.

I am curious why Striker does not liked to be touched? Does he bite you? Did you get him as a hatchling or older? How come you couldn't tame him down? I thought corns are the most gentle of all pet snakes.

  • I got him when he was just about turning 1..so he probably went through some kind of experience that has left him wary of people..thankfully lately he has been calming down a little bit and despite his nervousness of being picked up he has never bitten me to this day.

  • most people feed their corn snakes every 7 days

  • i hear 5 days is the right time not saying you are wrong just what i heared

  • how many snakes do u hav

  • Currently I have 2 corn snakes and a king snake :0)

  • hi my name isnet undermosher dats ma bros nickname but ow well so i luvvv ur set up im gettin a corn snake soon its my life long dream pet ang having one will probibly be bst dai of my childhood i herd they can live for 20 yrz witch is great! better then they dog i bought! we had him for a month and he gets run over

  • Well congrats on getting a new snake and I'm sorry to hear about your dog :0(

  • i wouldn't use aspen bedding.. not safe... use coconut fiber, (eco earch) waaaay better, and keeps humidity up to.. another thing... those log hides arent the best... to big, and to open, snakes like small dark hides, they feel more secure if they can feel there hide around them. it was an ok vid. i guess. you should point out these things... also water bowl... wayy to big. and one more thing. use a small dot of hot glue and seel that log down! so it dont fall on ur snake... not very good care..

  • I heard coconut fiber could pose a danger to reptiles and have been told by multiple snake breeders to not use it. The log hides are to give a more natural feel to the tank,as you saw one of his hides was an enclosed one so he could have the privacy he wants. I know the water bowl is kind of big and I'm working on probably getting a smaller one for now. And as for the log being secured down, that is why I made a comment to make sure the log was secure in it's spot so it doesn't fall on the snake.

  • dude @reptileXrule do you even know much about snake?

    love your vids LadyPicies=]
