Can you do a comparison with the current 2.5 Blender renderer?
I've read that the cycles renderer crashes if you have curves in the camera view. Can fix by converting the curve to a mesh before rendering. Also, cycles crashes if you have vertices and edges in the scene without any attached faces.

Do the math: 30 to 60 seconds per frame, multiplied with the duration in seconds divided by the frames per second ;-)
