LMFAO! Love that look Erica gives @ :53. It's sooo Erica Kane! 1:32 is another great moment. Everyone look as if they're thinking "oh shit!". 3:13 great line "Standing in the spotlight where I was born to be." 4:52 another great line "I'm immune to whispers and smirks" 6:18 "I know it hurts being 3rd, but aren't you accustomed to it yet?" Now I see why everyone says she should have won the Emmy this year. Great delivery of the dialogue. I love Erica Kane!
Ive been an AMC fan for 30 years and a huge Erica Kane fan but i'd never seen this scene until today..It is absolutely incredible. Real and raw and without all the overwrought hair tossing and overacting we've come to know ..and love i'll admit.. from the Erica character. I agree that it's probably Susan Lucci's best scene on the show ever..I cant recall a better underplayed scene before or since.
"The hypocrisy in this room could choke a snake" will forever be one of the greatest and best delivered lines ever. I honestly think this is Erica's greatest moment.
Back when the show was watchable. Back when you'd race home from school/ work to see what pricelessness your VCR had recorded. Miss those days. Miss Dimitri horribly. Loved him. :(
@Africana3789 sadly, these scenes did not win her the Emmy although she did submit them for consideration. Many fans believe her first win ought to have come from both tapes pertaining to the Women in Media speech.
Oh Lord, the show was so fun, and watchable back then. A good mix of camp and real drama. What the hell happened for it to become the unwatchable mess it is now?
@brinpol Well what I'm thinking is that it's the hairdo and perhaps the lighting maybe. She looks very pale, but since you mentioned hair, I love love love her long beautifully flowing hair, but like I said she's still very beautiful, but even the prettiest people have bad days.
@disizanewme Yeah, long hair does suit her the best...I'm thinking of when she returned as a ghost (the first time?), when she had that extended "what if?" with Tad. She has had some good short hair looks - the pixie cut in the early 90s, and the short curly do she had the fist time she "died" - but this was not one of them.
Erica believes that if Dixie had been WATCHING "Tad the Cad", he wouldn't have been able to 'plot' with Liza to become the NEW host of Erica's show "The Cutting Edge". However, he only stepped in because Erica was in the hospital after falling from a scaffolding, which precipitated her addiction to pain pills, the REAL reason she was NOT asked to return to hosting the talk show.

Erica's speech reminds me of Renee's Speech on Days of Our Lives right before she's killed. She rips into everyone who's ever hurt her, which was a lot! lol
I couldn't believe they put the part in the script where Erica said "Everyone in this room has had a turn at me". As many men as Erica has been with? That was TOO EASY - LOL!
Brooke walking out was CLASSIC. Brooke has seen so much of her drama over the years that she probably couldn't tell that she was high on painkillers.
Acting in soaps is about making the most absurd, credible, the most surreal riveting. No matter what the writers demand of your character, whatever over-the top melodrama, accessable, so that when the writers get it all right two weeks hence, you can deliver your character unscathed to the pay-off. Susan all that better than any other actress. its the consistency of her performance under inconsistent circumstances that makes her the best.
This was back when Agnes Nixon and Lorraine Broderick had a FIRM hand in how AMC was written, while Megan McTrashy was not a part of the show (thank goodness!), when the show was about CHARACTERS...not ridiculous plots. Over the past decade, the show has been passed around from one bad writing team to another, and the quality has suffered immensely as a result.
All My Children was the sh!t back then. It was must see tv and this has to be one of the most memorable moments of the shows entire run. I will never understand why ABC fired Lorraine Broderick, AMC was epic during her tenure.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this clip! I've been looking for it for years. One of the best episodes of AMC ever. Long live Erica! She is fierce!
Wow, what's a speech, You really understand why Susan is The daytime diva. I'm suprise that Jack didn't step up to stop from himiliating herself. I know they were not together at the time, but he always has been her knight in shining hamor.
i've been wanting to see this for so long! I've heard about it but never got to watch it! This was AMC at its best!!! thank you allmychildrentvshow!!!!!

AMAZING scene!!! Fortunately, SoapNet included this ep. in its lineup this weekend! Susan Lucci should have won an Emmy for this!

Dixie looks fake...what has Opal ever done to Erica?
disizanewme 10 months ago
@disizanewme I wouldn't say fake...Cadie is a very beautiful woman, but that was NOT the best hairstyle she had.
brinpol 10 months ago
@brinpol You misunderstood me, Cady is in fact a very beautiful woman, but not on that particular episode, and I loved and miss Dixie so much.
disizanewme 10 months ago
@disizanewme For me, the hairstyle is what is not working. She's had some really great short length hairdos...this was not one of them.
