This song always reminds me of my older sister. She died a year ago, but this was her favorite song to play on the piano. It took her years to be able to play it flawlessly all the way through. I could lay next to the piano on our house's cold tile and listen to her play all day when we were younger. Hearing this song now, I feel like she's playing for me again. I love you, Amanda.
@Hannah6412 i actually like it cause you get different prepectives of his hands when he plays it rather just having 1 view the whole time. the only problem i found was that the audio was out of sync with the playing he did...
Fantastic! Bravo! By far the best performance of this piece I have ever seen/heard a true master of the piano. Would love to see this live would anyone happen to have any information on whether he still performs, where, and when?
The way he plays the part starting at 4:46 is amazing! managing to keep the tempo on the C sharp key playing it with different fingers. Incredible pianist!
I love him. Another of the major international piano names. Last night I had a chance and listened to his live performance (Liszt and Chopin). He gave me also his autograph on the CD cover panel. I'm really happy ...
waaaaaw i heard it once before i saw this.....i didn't know it is that hard to play it....he look like he will go mad any minute.....he is just sooo good at doing what he does
@anonymouspatron7 Memerization really isn't as hard as it seems! When you practice a piece enough times with the music to try and learn/perfect it, you magically just somehow remember it, lol. It's weird
I like he is playing with much passion and very beautifull mostly and good technique, much better than Ott. The best for me are Jung Lin's rendition of this and Horowitz playing his arrangement, both so very beautifull, full of emotion.
@6347285 Yayy!! Americans are also the first to drop nuclear bombs, give democracy in exchange of blood and petrol, tear down their own buildings to create excuse for war.....
and stillll have bazzillions of dolars of debt to china and frozen dead homeless people on the streets. You just keep being exceptional in arts and sciences. sorry I had to take the argument to this level but this man asked for it.
btw, I rarely listen to another one's performance when I want to listen to hun. rhap. 2.
I was a music performance major, and I found that the ego, competition, and pressure can be unbelievable. I got tired of trying to be perfect every time I played, and now that I'm done with my degree I play for enjoyment...mistakes and all :). I think it's wonderful that Adam looks like he is enjoying himself, and that he plays with so much expression and accuracy. Maybe the people who criticize him should get a life and start playing for enjoyment instead of for ego??
Americans were not just the first to land a craft on Mars, Richard Kastle was the first recording artist to play Liszt's alternating octaves the way Liszt intended them to be played. The American CD outsold the current Russian and Canadian releases. Chinese Lang Lang plays an easier version. It doesn't count, unless you make an exception to the standards that define exceptionalism.
Beautiful interpretation! From the clip it seems that you had just as much fun playing the piece as it was fun to watch. You really enjoy your art. Bravo!
The best recording of this piece is by the American composer, Richard Kastle. It is also one of the biggest selling classical piano albums of all time. His CD made Billbooard, the industry standard on who sells recordings. Lang and Kissin are also on Billboard, but the average pianist doesn't sell enough CD's.
Bravo!!! Gyönyörű volt :D
AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM in the arts and sciences. Americans were not just the first to land a craft on Mars, Richard Kastle was the first recording artist to play Liszt's alternating octaves at the end the way Liszt intended them to be played. His CD outsold the current Russian and Canadian pianists, and he plays Liszt with style and extravagance. Chinese Lang Lang plays an easier version. I take exception to a pianist who plays an easier version being referred to as exceptional.
Most common thing I ever seen in every comment about pianos: [name of pianist] has way too many flaws. Derps learn to know what it means to do an interpretation of a piece. If you want someone flawless just invent a robot already.
This is not flawless. He's sloppy. He's leaving out many of the high C#'s starting at 5:46. He does the same thing - 6:34. Missed the second high chord - 6:12. Missed many melody notes starting at 7:10, before missing some chromatic chords at 7:20. There's no cadenza before the alternating octaves - missed E# octave and loses control at the end.
The only guy who can play this flawlessly is the AMERICAN, Richard Kastle.
And he tosses off the hardest technique with extravagance.
@BlackMasterJoe89 You have a lot of nerve. American Richard Kastle is the most successfuf pianist to record this piece. Look it up. The Russian and Canadian releases were bombs. The Chinese released a simplified version. It doesn't count. This Hungarian pianist is not even a recording artist. You must be retarded to think that Europeans and Chinese can perform this better then an American.
I don't get why you have to make such a fuss and be so negative about another pianist performance american or not.
Second don't use that word, retarded, its bad and plus I wasn't even remotely thinking if americans are better than chinese or if chinese are better than russians....
@6347285 tell me why then, are there no videos that exist of him playing this "perfect" version of hungarian rhapsody? You really think that an audio file is impressive in your defense? I can record myself "playing hungarian rhapsody no.2" and make it sound like i'm amazing too.
@kamikaze223 He had a hit record called Streetwise. It's flawless. He played it on national television. Look up the press coverage and the credits on TV.com. You will need to release a hit record and perform for mllions of fans on TV to sound as amazing as Kastle. Lang had the success, but he was playing a simplified version. That doesn't count either, except as a grand illusion.
@6347285 the fact that this coverage isn't accessible on youtube, the most popular video uploading website in the world (viewable by billions) leads me and others to believe that this Kastle is the one creating grand illusions and keeping secrets.
@kamikaze223 Try to find the TV appearances on Jay Leno with Lang Lang or Richard Kastle. You can't find either one on YouTube. TV.com has the credits and a way to see the appearances, for a fee.
@6347285 György is not perfect, he is human. He did make mistakes, but that is part of a LIVE performance.
Since I know you are trolling there is no point in writing this down, because you will reply with some silly excuse again where you'll just keep polishing your fat man countrymen ego.
I went and listened to his version btw., which is 3:58 long. And isn't half as complex as what György is playing. This is 9:44!!! Damn you just go away.
@6347285 Dude seriously, you are doing a wonderful job of trolling here. Richard kastle, whoever he is (never heard of him *puts on imaginary glasses*) has recorded this piece in the peace and quite of a studio, where he could take breakes between takes, could re-play any part he wanted, was not performing for an audience in SPOTLIGHT, where you are under a LOT of pressure, cameraman standing beside you, everyone you know waching, your future at stake... how can you even compare the two???
Oh PLease!! Enough of the Tom and Jerry references, its so embarassing people, come on!! That was the extent of your classical education, huh? SAAAAD!!!
I could care less about his face. I want to see the hands! Why is is that whenever videos are made of performances or recitals of any kind, they spend half of the time focusing on the musician's face? I'm more interested in seeing how they play rather than a smile or something.
@starkj92, music is not just in the hands, the hands are controlled by our mind and reflect also in our emotions and expressions. To just see his hands in this clip would make it just boring and you might as well watch a computer or machine play this piece. I think the facial expressions in this clip make it much more enjoyable to view.

I don't get why you have to make such a fuss and be so negative about another pianist performance american or not.
Second don't use that word, retarded, its bad and plus I wasn't even remotely thinking if americans are better than chinese or if chinese are better than russians....
You don't even sound american yourself lol.

@Raqubor i agree, it's rare to see successful trolls like this

I would consider to sell my soul to the devil to be able to play like this....Now I wouldn't actually do it, but I'd consider it =)

Really nice.
Just one question:
Why the hell r they showing his face all the time??
Often even on 2 pictures at the same time!! wtf?
I am interested in how he play it. Not what faces he makes...
Well played again anyway.

@xionidas
Can you repeat that after checking his smile at 5:18? If yes, I'm sorry but you do not feel and understand the emotional beauty of music.

I could care less about his face. I want to see the hands! Why is is that whenever videos are made of performances or recitals of any kind, they spend half of the time focusing on the musician's face? I'm more interested in seeing how they play rather than a smile or something.
starkj92 7 months ago
@starkj92, music is not just in the hands, the hands are controlled by our mind and reflect also in our emotions and expressions. To just see his hands in this clip would make it just boring and you might as well watch a computer or machine play this piece. I think the facial expressions in this clip make it much more enjoyable to view.
