This scene is way too lame and too drawn out. They should have cut this and allocated more screen time to Daniel and Miyagi rumbling with Okinawan hoods.
lukkha1, it could be that Hollywood made the ceremony simple, so that the audience would concentrate more on the young pair. I don't think any offense was intended. The complexities of Okinawan culture may have been just too much (in their opinion) for the audience to absorb. When newspapers write, they write for a fifth grade reading level so that everyone can understand the story, if the analogy is taken.
this tea ceremony is all wrong. not the proper ustensils, where is the kama why the hishaku isnt on top of the futa oki but on the supposedly kensui, why is there no mizusashi, why the usucha looks like ryokucha. etc etc . this is pure american bullshit to flatter their quest for chinky exoticism/ just like if a girl like kumiko would give a fuck of the white trash daniel fucking san .
They edited out the part where, before sitting down, Daniel asks "Is this seat taken?". Pretty awkward moment, but I wouldn't criticize it because I don't think I would've fared much better in that situation and I would DEFINITELY have taken the time to learn Japanese before I went there, even if it was just Okinawa.
@thudor1 even if it was JUST Okinawa.. now what is that supposed to mean , my grand mother is from there and so what you beleive this is the 51st state of america, well guess again, fucking yank and get your army basis the fuck out of my island . the war has ended over 60 years ago , why the fuck are you still there , raping 12 years old girls. and dont pretend you didnt know that. it was all over the news. 4 marines on one 12 years old . why because this JUST Okinawa ?
@lukkha1 No, no. What I meant was that I would take the time to learn Japanese even if Okinawa was the only part of Japan I ever got to see! Believe me, I don't consider your island to be the 51st state at all. And I don't condone any atrocities committed by American servicemen and in fact have written to various leaders concerning that. The last thing I wanted to do was offend anyone. Now I see that my country's presence on Okinawa is a sensitive issue and I can only offer my apologies. OK?
