When I was high school I alway wanted to be a business owner cuz I alway wanted to help the young kid work and make money and finished there college atleast but I end up nowhere I give up too easy now i'm working for like 276 dollar a week for 5yrs now I couldn't find a better job but thank for the tip ok
Ok, so im filling this application out, BUT its asking me about my employment history, but im only 16 so i dont know what to put considering i dont have a history of employment. PLEASE help. what sould i put down?
Also when you come in for a job and you know you have to fill out an application bring a ink pen. I really liked the fact that you said things that needed to be done rather than giving a very ambiguous discusion like what we often hear from talk show hosts and news anchors.
Finding a job is harder that people think. When applying for retail, it is very difficult for us guys. Stores would rather hire the cute girl. Girls working in a game store? I have to admit it does help the business, but it hurts us gentlemen.
Theres also the other situations. Im sure everybody has heard this quote. "Were not hiring right now, but you can still fill out an application."
Another downside is the positions available. 90% of stores are looking for managers.
ok... im applying for a job and i dont really know what position im going for... im applying for Pizza Pizza, im only 14 so... Please help me and pm me or reply!!!
great video, also in the interview try to be confident and turn off your cellphone. what I heard, sometimes its good to lie on the application for work expierence or if you gone to college, for that extra mullah.chances are,the employer doesn't check if you went to high school or college.they may check your most recent employer.p.s. if you got a criminal history, just say you were FRAMED MAN! ;D oh, and dont ask for vaction before being hired.peace
Hey if anyone would like to get money an easy way from home- not selling anything, or doing quizzes, or serveys- but a good program that you can go from nothing to something, start off making hundreds then thousands. send me a message.
Grimmy15- good luck with that. I spent about two hours on mine, clicked 'submit' only for a message to appear that it hadn't registered or something along those lines. Technology has its uses but wer'e relying on it too much. Companies should make written applications optional too- not everyone has easy access to computers or is IT literate. Im a bit of a technophobe.
Anyway thanks 4 your message and good luck.........
ImNoRocketSurgeon- I know what you mean; I haven't had a paid job for a long time now, though ive tried to keep busy in other ways. Ive noticed that some employers only provide a bare minimum of information when advertising a job- (probably because they only want to spend a certain amount)- some employees don't even specify what the job is. I find that frustrating.
Anyway thanks for your message and best of luck for you too! best regards
how bout you live in a world where "Convict" is written ALL OVER your DAMN record over some F*ckin petty SH!T that happened when you just turned 18 thus making these people automatically throw your app like it was a piece of trash
Very smart. I usually "stretch myself too thin" by working 4-5 days in a week while still in highschool. I had a job where I came home from work at 11:00PM while still in 10th grade! That is not legal, but I liked that I could cram many hours in, yet I hated going home at 11:00PM on a motorcycle by myself at the age of 16. Not safe, not good.
Thanks for the advice man. I just have one question. As I'm in high school and I have to take some classes after school I would really like to work on weekends. However I don't know if an employer would like that I'm only working two days. Would that kill my chances of getting the job?
in many cases i'd respect someone who got a GED more than someone who has a high school diploma. you have to put in the time and work for a GED.
but many people who have high school diplomas can barely get it by simply NOT failing too much. that was my case. barely passed high school, was absent a lot, didn't care about anything i was learning really. was in basic mid-way level courses too.
That's true. My mom dropped out of school when she had me.. But eventually got her GED and got into nursing school and making the same or more as ppl with 4 yr degrees.
Yeah, I hate it when people down the GED. Statistics say that 95% of employers see a GED at the same level as they see a High School Diploma. Which is good because THAT'S WHAT IT IS!! People annoy me on that. I wouldn't want to work for the other 5% anyway, since they're obviously ignorant.
yeah and don't put what i used to put when they have the what do you think is a good quality of an employee question. not being a lazy bum and doing your damn job without whining. lol. that was great. it's a good story too.
good advice but its mostly common sence lol. I know someone who has been doing all this stuff and more but she hasn't had a job for 6 months so its all luck really.
Man, you're a really good guy, great advice man, I wish I hadn't quit without notice...I wonder how hard it'll be to find another job with that hanging around my neck...
I've never commented before, but I've been watching your vids for quite a while now, and I just wanted to let you know that what you're doing for the community is something unique. You're a great person, and I respect you a lot. Keep it up.
you just forgot one thing...Online job applications...Dude...there are so many jobs available online...awsome for relocating to get away from a bad or poor area etc. Top video though..Thanks mate...D
hey dude your vid is really helpful to me seeing as i require to get a job for the cource im doing at school, in the past ive filled in alot of applications but i havent been hired by any of the jobs ive applyed for so this vid is really going to help me
I've had a credit card (so I may have made a typo on the last BD digit, but its my correct social and thats what counts) and also I have a small credit line from GE money bank for the past 7 months building up my credit, so hopefully that will help with getting approved with an apartment application and possibly a car loan if I choose that route (more likely to just buy one straight out for 3k or so)
$10 an hour? People work for that in the States? That's 20 cents below minimum wage in the UK, even the crappest jobs here have to pay more than that if they want to attract people! Even Mickey D's pay more!
@steveall Also the US is still more free enterprise than the UK so socialist programs such as minimum wage and unemployment benefits are all lower, but we dont have to pay as much taxes ;)
I didn't need the career advice as I'm already a working professional, but I watched anyway and I have to say that you gave sound advice and really know your stuff. Great video
idk where u live but in nys HSED (high school equivlence dimplomas = ged are harder to obtain then a high school diploma the tests are harder how ever it takes alot less time to get a hsed then a high school diploma so they are looked down apon because of the fact people consider it an easy way out
GREAT advice- and I don't believe all your viewers know this stuff. You seriously have a gift for working with the youth. I don't know what your real job is but have to you considered being a teacher or a counsellor for kids?
A personal pet peeve: When you get a job, negotiate a salary/hourly pay. Some places don't negotiate; you get what they offer. If it's not enough money, don't accept the job. Politely decline and look elsewhere. Also, ask the employer about working conditions and expectations. Don't take the job then, after working for a short time, begin complaining about how little you get paid for the work you do. Know what you are getting into when you start, then give the employer their money's worth.
I was always told one should dress one step up from how you would dress for the job if you worked there it seems to work I've applyed too four places in my life time and have had four jobs so I hope that helps someone out there The Nuaghty Gnome
Great tips DS ! only thing i'd suggest is that if you are there to apply or interview (hopefully it goes that far) is to make sure your cell phone is either off or on silent mode . A phone call in the middle of an interview could lose you the job ...
You know what, dude, there are some places that offer the electronic way. But hey, thanks for the help. I've been having trouble getting a job around here. I'll work on those.
The appearance of the application is also very important. Check for spelling--in my experience, with 2 applications in front of me, the one with misspellings is shifted lower in the pile. If your handwriting sucks, ask someone to write it for you. Again, first impressions are important. The application is probably your first impression to the person doing the hiring.
If you KNOW you're going to apply for jobs you might want to write down your references AND your previous work experience. I remember scrambling because I forgot all that crap-a little pocket-sized notebook can be a lifesaver. You can also write questions you want to ask the employer if you tend to blank out during interviews (and it shows you're an organized person).
wow, you really have a gift... it's usually unlikely for people to be smart AND good looking but you definately have it. That's some mad awesome advice right there. thanks a lot! =]
Yeah DS- I agree with gelertgirl92. You gots the looks and da brains! lol
But I love how you adress everyone on YouTube on a personal level, I feel like I'm having a heart to heart with one of my buddies when I watch you, which I'll definitely keep doing! ;] Thanks again DS. --//xo;Ace
Looks like you are aiming this towards the younger crowd/entry level job which is cool. For that type of job I'd also add that the candidate ask for the manager and talk to a manager directly.
If they just hand the application to the cashier it may just go into a stack and never get any attention.
Frank, thanks much for this video. I'm going to pass it on to my two teenagers. I'm a single mom and, well, you know teenagers! They seem to listen to someone else better than they listen to their parents! You seem to be a very good role model for kids and I try to share your vids with my kids whenever possible. Thanks, man! Peace! P.S. Can they come live with you for a while so you can straighten 'em out a little bit?! I KNOW they'd listen to YOU, big guy! ;)
You should also make eye contact with the person, if your standing there staring at your shoes all the time they're talking, you not likely to get the job.
wow mate, just when i thought you couldnt get any better: you make a shoutout for john bosco and the skinny, you give this sweet ass discription of the job thing (which being a stressed out student i totally needed) 5 stars mate :P
it sucks when your told they will call you back and they dont...right now im waiting for a call...i was told i was going to get hired but the position i had originally applied for was filled but they liked me so much they were going to find a spot for me
That thing you said about never getting promoted etc if you go to work every day and hate it is so true. I like the saying "If you can find a job you really enjoy, you won't work a day in your life." But I'm a soldier so I don't really have to worry too much about work as long as I iron my uniform everyday.
I'm glad you started this subject. Also, they like it when you shake their hand, to give them a strong handshake, not a loose one otherwise it seems you really aren't into it and don't have a very strong character. Plus, smile a lot, they like that.
Jobs Suck! Don't do it. Only time I made anything out of myself is when I started following my dreams and working for my self. Living the dream and failing is better then working the job and dying.
Great advice, DS. I would add a couple of things. When you are using people as references, you should ask them if you can use them as a reference before you do. It's polite and also helps them be prepared if they get a phone call about you. Other suggestions for people to use for references are your minister, one of your teachers, or your coach. And a rule of thumb for dressing for interviews is to dress up a little more than what would be required dress for the job you're seeking.
thanks for the plug bro! My wife is also in the hunt for a job lol. I wear a jacket to work everynight on the show... i must be the only tuber crazy enough to do it
Great advice! The only thing I would say to back you up, is that filling out the application at home give you another apportunity to make another good impression when you return the application. It's amazing how many people don't follow those simple tips. They're all great.
Wow, this really helped. I'm on a job hunt right now and I've only had 2 jobs in the 18 month span I've been working so I'm still unsure of the applications and stuff. Thank you.

The application is probably your first impression to the person doing the hiring.
tenacity0320 5 years ago
If you KNOW you're going to apply for jobs you might want to write down your references AND your previous work experience. I remember scrambling because I forgot all that crap-a little pocket-sized notebook can be a lifesaver. You can also write questions you want to ask the employer if you tend to blank out during interviews (and it shows you're an organized person).

Great advice! The only thing I would say to back you up, is that filling out the application at home give you another apportunity to make another good impression when you return the application. It's amazing how many people don't follow those simple tips. They're all great.
