baku itself is fine and far better of than yerevan . however i agree that the adjacent area is an industrial wasteland , and i believe that they should use their oil money to diversify their economy . any economy basd on oil has appauling corruption , russia is a classic case . however their land is their land and it was stolen from them and their people were ethnically cleansed from karabakh . their is no justification for aggressive conquest today that is what it is .

You don't know the history, te problem is that xayes had not lived in Caucasus till 18-19th centuries. armenians lived on eastern part of modern Turkey.Even if we will look to armenians now, they don't look like caucasian people, including Azeri and Georgians. The ancestors of xayes were probably gypsies or any other south east asian people. Even the names of armenians are taken from other cultures: persian (iranian), turkish and arabic (muslim).

The Karabakh was given to Azerbejan by Stalin. Under pressure the communist leaders 'voted' for Karabakh to be part of Azerbejan prior splitting it into upper andlower Karabakh, giving some autonomy to upper Karabakh.Azerbejan always tried to push out the Armenians from there. After soviet collapsed the Karabakhi armenians declared their Independence from Azerbejan just like Azeris declared Independence from soviets. Who freed ARmenian LANDS during Russi-Persian war, and Russian- turkish war, 1828 these Armenian Lands was declared as Russian Gubernia's after revolution aka red terror, these laands was named as International Republic of Armenians, Tatars, Iranians, Kurds and many minorities, as Atrpatakan, because it was difficult for lenin to pronounce the name he called Adrbedjan.
