fuck it, thats not how Ajax died. He went mad when he was cheated out of achilles golden armour. In a last act of reason he chose to kill himself instead of running amok and killing his comrades.
The film changed Ajax's fate, he wanted Achilles armor but Odysseus received it. That night in a drunken state attempted to attack his comrades but was deceived by goddess Athena to killing a flock of sheep. Once he'd sobered up in the morning he was overwhelmed and so ashamed on what he'd a attempted to do he fell onto his sword ending his life.
Ajax was invincible because when he was a baby Hercules wrapped his lion skin around him except his armpits. So when he fought Hector nobody won and they exchanged gifts.hector gave him his sword and Ajax his belt. When Achillees died the Greeks decided to give his weapons to the bravest but instead of Ajax Odysseus took them. After days of rage and seeing where it got him heput Hector's sword under his armpit and fell on it.So he ended his life undefeated but in shame...
@itsgonnabelegendable Oh yes he does!I am Greek and we had Iliad and Odyssey in school friend.Have't you watched the film btw?He was killed by Paris when he shot him in the heel. That is why we say today "Achilees's heel"
You are talking about a guy that used a ships' sail as a lance as if it were a regular size spear Ajax could not have died at the hands of Hector they just adapted the movie to magnify the viewer's perspective towards how great Hector was
@Hellstrike Correct. Ajax also duels Hector twice, and survives both fights. Hector afterwards is killed by Achilles and when the time comes to the fate of his armor, Ajax competes for it and is denied. He then uses the sword that Hector gifted him with after one of their fights to end his own life.

This is what happens to you when you trust more your strong arms than checking what the opposite might carry under his shield. Typical example of "braveness" without a brain. It happened well to you, Ajax!
@Jozzze1 actually, Ajax kills himself, if you remember the gods made this armor to make sure it cannot be penetrated, then Odysseus took it for himself because he was smarter, then Ajax killed himself because of jealously.
@234Assassin Actually Ajax killed himself because he dishonored the Greeks. After Odysseus took the armor he was drunk and started to kill animals because he thought that they were Greek Leaders, after he realized what he had done he killed himself because he thought he was dishonorable and wanted to redeem himself.
i feel like that headbutt would have been like hitting your head to a wall... for him to inflict that much upon Ajax, would be equal if not more than to hector... ahh movies :D
@Thablackdead a quick one* Ajax was said to have been the second best fighter in the Greek army behind Achilles. Why they killed him in this movie is beyond me

in the book hector and ajax fight a few times, in the end declaring a stalemate. but during the battle in the book when hector takes the fight to the greek ships, he does manage to best ajax, although not killing him, atop one of the greek boats, throwing ajax off of it, and then starting to set fire to the greek ships. but yea in the end hector and ajax make a stalemate, giving eachother gifts out of respect. but it makes more sense in a movie for hector to just kill ajax
@INTHEHONOROFROCK No. Ajax was son of Telamon & Periboea. Telamon was son of Aeacus (or Actaeus) and Endeis (or Glauce). Aeacus was Zeus' son. So, Ajax was possibly a descendant of Zeus, but not directly son of a god.
BUT
The origin from a god was not so important for the homeric heroes, as you may imagine. Eudorus, one of Achilles' lieutenants, was son of Hermes. He was neither a great warrior nor a king nor a hero nor whatever else.
this movie was so crap too, Menelaus survives, Agamemnon survives Ajax survives (not for long but he does) Achilles kills hector and Paris being a pathetic excuse for a soldier and prince fires a poisoned arrow into his heel. the siege of troy takes ten years not a few weeks, while the walls cannot be penetrated the Greeks and Trojans get into stalemate,
i loved the characters but hated the movie, hector says 50 000 Greeks were brought for one mans greed, well his Trojans are there so his brother can screw some one else wife. when he violated the sacred honor agreement and killed Menelaus he forgoes honor and at that point i just said the Trojans are willing to let their city and people be attacked so two brats can hump. then they act like they are offended by the Greeks being there, made me laugh, Hector deserved his fate for being hypocrite
This movie is really stupid, why fix something that isn't broken? But welcome to the age of disinformation and deceit. Now everyone thinks this is the true Iliad.
Ajax and Hector actually do fight in the Illiad, but neither is able to defeat the other, and they declare an end to their battle. Out of respect for one another Hector presents Ajax with a Trojan sword of the highest quality, and Ajax gives Hector his most treasured girdle....Go figure.
@nashertheatheist Of course... don't watch stupid Hollywood disinformation movies.. Just wait until they start manipulating the Bible, those will be the climax of the endtimes.
@atheniandpa Anyone that's halfway educated knows this movie isn't a copy of The Illiad,it just references from Homer with aspects switched around to execute the director's vision. It's been done a million times before so i don't know why you're acting like you're shocked. And anyone's who's educated knows the modern King James bible is just a scrap book of alterations, mistranslations, misenterpretation, and sprinkles of truth anyway
@wisewarriormuzic And anyone who is educated as a student of history knows that first and foremost, history is not the truth. History is an account of the truth. And this account is subject to change over the years, which is exactly why disinformation films like this are very dangerous. This change can be made with good or bad intent. Biblical flaws do not compromise the goodness if its account. This film jeopardizes Homer's intent, for ideological purposes.
Ajaz didn't die according to Illiad. Both heroes fought for whole day with hector getting a minor injury and in the end both got impressed by each other and exchanged gifts
@GeneralGrievous18 Whichever it was Diomedes did wound a god. Aeneas wasn't included either apart from that little kid at the end. A big thing they didn't include is that Hector didn't choose to bring the army back to Troy against council the night before the Myrmidons joined the fight again. His shame of that did make him face Achilles after all.
Can't believe Hector ordered them not to pursue because they were in range of their archers. SO what - they could have routed them then and there. For such an excellent warrior he really dropped the ball there.
@Lhein33 I particularly remember Diomedes being an extremely talented warrior, his match being Ajax only among the Greeks with Achilles his only superior. Yet he got no part in this movie. I remember Diomedes mostly because his fighting was put into detail the most, if I remember correctly he even wounded a Trojan supporting god and killed many Trojan heroes, even being intimidating to Hector.

The rest of the story goes that after the sacking of Troy, Ajax was denied the Armor of Achilles and committed suicide, throwing himself on a sword that Hector had given him as a gift.
He was also said to have been one of the best heroes of the war - personally killing many Trojans.
@NicholasGeschke Achilles was the strongest of the Greeks. E.g. it's said that no Greek (we can conclude that this means Ajax too) could lift Achilles' spear (μελίη).
Also, the dispute about Achilles' armour happened before the fall of Troy. Ajax committed suicide, then Neoptolemus and Philoctetes came and finally Odysseus created the Trojan Horse and they destroyed Troy.
armor was almost always useless against piercing weapons such as arrows and spears. but against slashing blows, they would be very effective (we see this in the hector vs achilles fight when achilles armor protects him from hectors slash before hector trips on rock). The only type of armor that could effectively deflect piercing weapons was a solid metal breast-plate.
@macbeasty That's what the shields were made for. Even the mighty Katana, arguably the best slashing weapon ever made, cannot cut through solid steel.
Plate armor wasn't developed until the late Middle Ages, and it was only perfected during the Hundred Years' War. It was what allowed knights to use two-handed swords without having to worry about carrying a shield for protection.
A much more efficient weapon for breaching armor would be the battleaxe. Easy to use, cheap and powerful.
@ZeroDarkOmega In the Iliad there are two. Ajax the Greater, this one, and Ajax the Lesser. The Greater isn't killed by Hector, he commits suicide after failing to obtain Achilles' armor after his death. Ajax the Lesser survives Troy but is killed by the Gods on the journey home for raping Cassandra whilst she was clinging to the altar of Athene.
Ajax is a fucking badass. Who else gets stabbed in the gut, and their first reaction is to break the spear in half, then beat the shit out of the guy who stabbed you, with the spear he used to stab you?!?!
actually there are many i dont know names but someone got shot in one of their eyes with an arrow and he pull out the arrow (along with his eye) and ate it! another general who was escaping enemy castle was shot with arrows which pierce every place on his armor and body and when he made it back to his camp he play chess while people are pulling out the arrow heads (type where it tears off chunk of your meat if you pull it out). another guy cut off his hand when poinsoned and continue fighting

@Oesterreich1156
armor was almost always useless against piercing weapons such as arrows and spears. but against slashing blows, they would be very effective (we see this in the hector vs achilles fight when achilles armor protects him from hectors slash before hector trips on rock).

Easy to use, cheap and powerful.

didnt Ajax survive the trojan war?
ZeroDarkOmega 8 months ago
