  • to go in of of 600 km / h there is only the principle of train has magnetic levitation for the conventional trains has wheel on rail 600 km / h a barrier should stay, has less to feed the train by rails with electricity

    as some metro in the world, but the feeding by rails is hardly viable only on small networks shod by the big cities in tunnel, in outside on long distance this would be too dear and too much loss in watt by rails

  • the overhead lines have a current that goes at a speed of about 610kmh, if the train gets to close to that speed, it would damage the pantograph and the wire by destroying both. the more you pull the wire tight the faster the current will go. in the futur, tgv will easily go at 650kmh...

  • John Snow asks the question why are French trains 3 times faster than British ones. I would hazard a guess that it is partly because France is far more than 3 times BIGGER that the UK! So it therefore takes longer to get around there and the necesity for speed is pronounced.

    They Royals of Europe (who control all the banks) have created thei "credit cruch" and blamed it on us,.

    They created it by inflating house values, whihc will now drop. However, WE still owe THEM the money for our over inflated houses, and they are takign it back form the govts.

    THIS is their foinal payoff. They can NEVER lose form now on, snce thye own more cash and gold than anyone could ever match.

  • It realy is a great shame to see that Britain once used to lead the world in rail travel for speed especially, and to now see other countries innovating our inventions and leading us in rail travel!

  • We could destroy the north south divide with high speed rail. imagine getting no Newcastle in 90 minutes.  Lets do it for the environment. Just Look at the success of eurostar.

    But the truth is Japanese maglev train's record is about 10 km/h slower and the main problem is it cost too much to build, cost an arm!

  • All we hear in the UK is "longer trains... longer trains and even more longer trains"... IT WON'T HELP. get rid of that stupid UK Profile and make it UIC standard... then run Doubledeckers - as the Dutch do - and then start to build High Speed 2, 3 and 4.

  • Double deckers are no good. Dwell times at stations go up, as there are fewer doors per passengers. As well as this, every bridge would need raising - a waste of cash!

  • It was a wonderful achievement for both France and Japan. I have great respect for both. The modified TGV went amazingly close to the fastest ever Maglev.Thank goodness it didn't get derailed. I respect both these countries also Germany for all the effort they have put into testing etc.

  • why say that "i didn t derailed! french have the control at this speed and can go to 600kmph but the only problem is the catchement of electricity..that why we do only 574.8!

    classic train have a brillant futur be inform of that!

  • Maglev runs on magnetic track, while this was the record on classic rail.

    i.e.

    if you want the record you have to run a train thats the same legnth/weight as the train that will run on the actuall service

  • What rules? This was a technological success. News reports will continue to be full of made up stories for the masses. The cart doesn't pull the horse.

  • also the train that broke the record was only 2 powerunits and a measurement carridge

    the real thing will have more carridges that that surely

  • The unit was a highly modified TGV POS unit using Duplex (dual floor) carriages rather than the traditional. There were three Duplex carriages sandwiched between two TGV POS powercars. Two of the bogies of the three carriages had new AGV powered bodies, making the total number of powered bogies six rather than four. This was not in any way a standard TGV unit, but was testing all sorts of differing TGV components.

  • Apparently it has, although I haven't found out where it is yet (checking Wikipedia as I write this).

    I'll look into it and update this discussion.

  • Between Peterborough and Stoke Summit - Flashing Green indicates the driver can travel at that speed (As well as the 140 sign!)

  • Yeah, 361mph is 581km/h as I stated in my description. News reporters are notoriously bad at getting their facts right however and the Channel 4 report has lots of errors in it.
