I've seen Disklaviers many, many times, and I had no idea there was programming to do artistic motions through the keys at slow spots! I should have realized it was a possibility, but I never saw it.
The piano's music doesn't exactly match the music in the animation, but it's no less interesting.
I just realized something by slightly unplugging my headphones! The backing track of "Starship Groove" is in (and perhaps was purposely downconverted to) mono, and the Yamaha piano was recorded in stereo. If you do what I did with your headphones, or if you take the stereo image and flip one channel so it's inverted, the backing track disappears and all you'll hear is the piano. Try it!
This is so cool! A very interesting interpretation of the song. I just love the way the piano makes patterns with the keys, too. It's such a show-off.
So who arranged/wrote the piano part? Wayne Lytle or yet another unknown composer at Yamaha? I swear, those Yamaha composers are so elusive. They include all these great awesome songs included in their keyboards when you buy them, but they offer absolutely no credit at all to who wrote those songs.
@dogman15 I agree, I have a Yamaha Keyboard with all these cool songs on them but I have no idea who made them with the exception of 1 song (Wachet) which is by Bach. Maybe it's in the manual or something.
@DemonSlayerThe3rd: Not in my manual. I have a PSR-530 and it gives no clue as to who wrote songs like "Always" and "Jazz Trio", for example. I even tried calling Yamaha tech support with my question, and they couldn't really help me.
Dont get me wrong, I love Animusic, and the way that piano moves its own keys is pretty cool, but "StarShip Grove" sounds quite bad, next to that "jassy" piano line.
Bad move in my opinion, leave Animusic's music alone.
(hoping that you think the same, "animusic LLC", you must have been paid alot to let then ruin your song)
The movement of the piano's keys is strange, and that, coupled with the fixed perspective on a black background, lead me to think that it may have been fake. I'm not sure though.
Fake or not, the piano adds a whole new level of funkiness to the piece. This rocks big time.
@ALXXMaXX the movement is strange because it's motor driven. It's weird to see piano play itself because we're used to see a human play a piano. That's why the key movement without apparent reason looks strange.
@sdschramm Animusic works this way. Wayne Lytle sequences the MIDI, David does the Graphics himself. There is no Downloadable software for you to make your own Animusic Video. Except for MidiJam, but the instruments on MidiJam aren't as interesting as those on Animusic.

I think the piano adds a nice organic texture to the song. Nice prog/fusion style.
Btw Yamaha, the wave bits where the piano plays nothing, nice...

Um what's all the hate from? The harmonies are jazzy and sophisticated. Hard to appreciate if you're not an artsy-fartsy musician like me.

is it available to purchase with the piano as a soundtrack?
spiderfingers86 1 year ago
I really love the piano addition. I hope you include it in some other videos, or even for Animusic 3. Maybe another classical piece?

This sounds uglier than starting a car up with a cat sleeping on the manifold (the piano that is).

I really loved the piano addition to this piece. For me it added a little something extra. I would love to see some cool piano piece in Animusic 3.

Isn't all of Animusic ran by MIDI?
Also, would it be possible to make a MIDI only version available for download? That would be REALLY cool!
