  • Weeeeeeee I can fly!!!!

  • best belly flop i've seen!

  • "...SHIT, CAN'T FLY"

  • @trailljunkie You can clearly see the two "horns" on the way up (pause if in doubt). Of course, Mantas and Mobulas are also part of the eagle ray family in any case. But this is a Mobula, as the poster says. And jumping is typical of Mobulas.

  • oh shit that looks like batman!

  • I CAN FLY

  • Flying stingray... LOL That's awesome!

  • Cryptozoology novel about two boys who find something strange on the beach one night see video book trailer

  • If they've learned to do this then no one is safe! RUN FOR THE MOUNTAINS, THE RAYS ARE COMING!

  • there body will evolve and become more circular and will damatically increase in size and turn into what we now know as a flying saucer or ufo ship. 8)

  • just look at that. in a million years they are going to evolve and be able to fly in the air lol

  • nice! kazharad

  • nice! by kazharad

  • what could be the cause of this behavior? i dont think its curiousity

  • @ketanovas its trying to evolve lol. if he does that for 100 million years it will probably grow wings

  • wow, still wonder why something naturally doomed to make a belly flop would do this ^^

  • That was a Manty Ray? No, that was a Stingray.

  • That was a juvenile Mobula ray. very similar to a manta ray and some use the names interchangeably. Basically the same thing.

  • godzilla ismy movie and toys

  • wow im a guy but.. thats probably the cutest things ive ever seen in my life, i wish i could have it as a pet, but then id ruin his life, imagine if you were someones pet, that would suck balls.. but anyways, that manta ray pwns everything in this world.. too cute..

  • i can see why sailors of old called these "devilfish", if one did not understand them or seen one b4 it can look quite intimidating.

  • It's suprising that this is what did the Crocodile Hunter in, and not a Croc.

  • they don't have stingers or barbs

harmless inless one hit u wen in air

  • Steve got hit by a sting ray, not a manta ray.

  • It wants to be a bird not a fish. :D

  • @Taikkah Thats why the world is kind of twisted now, because some people think they were born as BIRDS instead of FISH

  • DO A BARREL ROLL

  • @MrKazuma92123 PRETTY SMOOTH FLYIN FOX

  • wants to fly

  • hee hee cute

  • kyahaha belly flop ^^

  • LOL BELLYFLOP!

  • mate that is not a manta ray that is a eagle ray. eagle rays jump out of the water thats why they are called eagle ray's. manta rays weigh like 500kg thats like asking a fat chick to jump 5 ft in the air :)

  • its a young moebilus ray..but in puerto escondido all the dark rays are called mantas

  • @fishfilmmaker Beautiful fish! Why do they jump?

  • @trentstarreppenpride

    Manta rays do jump tho..

  • @trentstarreppenpride Manta's and eagle rays both jump. The eagle rays can also weigh up to 500lb

  • bellyflop ouch

  • GO STINGY/MANTY!!!! FLAP!!!! FLAP!!!! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!!! BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART AND IN THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE SO THAT THEY... ah, what the heck. Just flap. ^^

i believe i can touch the sky.

good to hook one of them lol

  • thats pretty cool. i wanna do that! lol

  • belly flop

  • Rofl it looks like a penguin

  • looks like an eagle ray

  • whoa!

  • I actually heard that it does this also to relieve itching caused by some lice or other thing like that, although it is not known for sure why it does that.

  • I DUNNO WAT IT IS..ITS JUST FUNNY

  • Truly amazing, I've never seen a Manta jump out-of-water before.

  • isnt that a stingray and not a manta?

  • it's a type of stingray, but a different type. This type of ray is called a manta ray. It's different becos it doesn't sting. It's jumping out of the water cos its dos that when it thinks that danger is approaching.

  • Stingrays are a family of rays, and manta rays are a genus within a separate family (eagle rays). The ray in this video may be a mobula. They have the same look as mantas but are much smaller.

  • LOL wot.

  • that was actually really funny

  • Way manta or Numbfish

  • notta manta

  • it's a moebius ray or something LIKE that.. but in mazunt/zipolite they call every ray EVERY ray a manta....

  • WOW... thats scary

  • a person in florida just died by getting hit by one of these...it's kinda freaky to think this can happen

  • 4 real. But it was really a freak accident. An innocent jump like that from the ray and the unfortunate lady at the front of a boat going bout 25m or km not sure an hr. That would hit pretty hard.

  • it looks funny because the ray is trying flap it's "wings" hard enough so that it could get some altitude.

  • WOW.

  • that was a good shot

  • Da! Da! Da! Da! Super Ray to the rescue! lol hehe I love manta rays :3

  • imagine iff they developed strong enough to literally fly...

because it seemed intent whilst flapping in the air.

  • they do it when they feel in danger.

  • i don't know why but this looks really funny xD

  • Looks like a Mobulas judging by its size, but hard to tell without anything to measure the distance by.

  • it isa mobulas. but in San Agustinillo, in fact the entire coast of oaxaca, they call ALL rays as mantas.. MAnta blanca, Manta Pinto ( eagle) Manta Cafe, ( brown stingrays) and Manta Grande, for the real thing...

they do the same thing with fish species...

  • @fishfilmmaker "Manta" can be a generic term for any mobulid of unknown species - in the manta/devil ray subfamily. You can call the "real manta" (Manta birotris) devil ray too, that's an equally valid name for that species as well. Those names are somewhat synonymous.

It is Similar to the term "dog".

Generic, non specific name: "dog" = A member of the dog family, Canidae

Specific species: Canis familiaris, "domestic dog", or just "dog".

  • If rays can slip you lust saw one slip and fall up....ok ok i thought it was funny. Nice shot!

  • a cool 4 seconds

  • Wow!

  • INCREADIBLE! I didn't even know that they could leap out of the water!

  • that was the cutest thing lol fly little manta! fly!

  • Funniest thing ever:D

  • i have seen them about 18 feet wide... i hooked one 11 feet across while tapinga fly fishing show with BOB IZUMI.. the footgae never aired and it stripped me of 400 yads of line in 9 or 10 seconds

these little mantas travel in huge schoold up to 50000 at a time... if it is aisnt a manta but some other kind theni stand corrected, but we have have all kinds, eagles, pintos, cafe, brown, rtingrays and mantas.... around us they call all the rays "mantras" whichis incorrect

    gotta run

  • Its not a Manta, its a Devil, or Mobula Ray which is a lot smaller. Mantas do also jump sometimes tho. They do it we believe to dislodge parasites, or also when escaping predetors such as sharks. Nice video.

  • nice never saw 1 b4

  • Manta ray has got few of its evil names from jumping on fishing boats and killing fishermen a century or 2 ago. I heard they do it to scare their enemies, maybe they try to protect their kids etc. Anyway that manta looks pretty small one. Are you sure it wasn't any other ray? The one I saw jumping in front of Norfolk, VA about 50 meters away from our boat was at least 15ft feet wide. According to wikipedia they can grow as wide as 25ft. Anyway, nice shot, my friend.

  • they do it to dislodge parasites and remove dead skin.

    pretty cool anyway. nice vid.

  • That's too cool. But it almost hurts when you hear them land. I wonder why they fly out of the water like that. I guess for fun. they don't need to come up for water like Dolphins would. Weird and cool stuff.

  • they say it is to smash bait, but i believe it is to help force food down their gullets

  • Most of the time they jump out of the water to get rid of bacteria that's stuck to them.
