  • close ur eyes and focus on the song, it feels like if something embraces u

  • man it gets deep inside my head, the noise kinda angers me but its nice

  • This sends chills down my spine every time I hear it. Thank God music is around. I don't know what I would do without it.

  • Can you say "steampunk keyboards"?

    Retro mondo!!!

  • The glass armonica allows you to make chords more easily, so that's at least one reason to invest.

  • Your ignorance makes me fucking cringe.

  • Armonicas are beautiful instruments...but even the smallest ones (one octave) cost around $4,000. I've seen the larger ones (around 1.5 to two octaves) go for almost $10,000.

  • they cost so much but they are easy to make at home, fragile, and somewhat creepy

  • easy to make at home?

    my tender butt is it

  • If you know something about making them, I wish you would fill us all in on it.

  • indeed. First, you need to know how to blow glass. Then, you need to be a master. After that, you require the very specific amounts of quarts in order to make the crystal glass. Finally, you have to cut it very precieselly, and then tune them. Easy as making a maned rocket in your backyard, perhaps.

  • Its all about acoustics =)

  • so ein dreck

  • now i see where that sound on my keyboard came from. cool

  • does this work in the same way as a wine glass that whines when you rub your finger around it?

  • I think that's the idea, yeah. I mean I've never played one, but when you look at how it's made and see that it's all glass bowls tucked together it does seem very similar. Also, you can notice in the video that he has a small metal bowl where he most likely has water to keep his fingers moist. I guess he could use spit, but I think that would probably be as annoying as all get out.

  • yeah, so it must be hollow inside. that guy would have to have some serious glands to produce his own lube!

  • Yeah! If he did the secret black market post office would probably abduct his ass and make him lick stamps all day. Maximum efficiency with maximum spit!

  • Theres water on both the harmonica and his fingers, saw it on another clip.

  • I dont think spit would work, its too slick. To make glass sound there has to be some amount of resistance, but still somewhat slippery

  • My friend actually got a wine glass to produce a consistent sustained pitch using a bit of saliva on the tip of his finger.

  • Everyone can do that, man.

  • You know the funny thing is people are so damn eager to shut out any voice that I don't even have a means of seeing what the hell I typed in the first place to respond but apparently I must have included some form of advertisement or a URL of some sort because it's been marked as SPAM. Thank you Youtube users for your incredible discretion -_-

  • @macarion Uh, no, as a matter of fact. You need to memorize the key notes in every stroke, and wet your fingers every time before use. It's really actually complicated, and there are only a few real players around.

  • yes, in fact, if you can tune the glasses correctly, you can get a very similar effect. I've never had the time, patients or pitch to do it, but I've seen it done and it's impressive.

  • i agree. imagine how easily this thing could break. that would be devastating! there'd be no way to repair it, just hundreds of shards.

  • or thousands D:

  • They cost like 3 grand American. D:

  • three thousand americans? I don't think I have that many people to trade.

  • Millions!

  • Benjamin Franklin had one and played it. The instrument was very popular in "The Colonies".

  • ben franklin invented it.

  • thats cool!

  • One word, SWEET!

  • That's 3

  • the glass is rounded at the ends...he can't cut his fingers off

  • awesome!

  • my ears

  • wow coolio i so want one of dose!

  • anyone heard 'rolling into the hills'

    by starcandy.

its a great song but i cant find it on the internet, does anyone know where i could find it?

  • That's a creepy instrument for sure :P

  • This instrument has always been associated with insanity, as the instrumentalist usually became insane later in life. It was believed this was because of the eery sound it produces, but It was discovered that the glass had a high lead content and would cause lead poisoning. The glass harmonica was banned until unleaded glass was discovered.

  • @bikerbob951 Finally someone posted what had happened to it. My father had explained it to me several years ago when we saw a concert in Williamsburg, but I don't remember.

  • @bikerbob951 Interesting. I was messing with 3 glasses and a few raindrops in a recycle centre selling recycled junk. The sales manager went crazy with anger. It wasnt natural. I aint THAT bad a muso.

  • Now that's pretty cool.

  • excellent!!!

  • It's magic!

  • its illegal to own this instrument in mose of eastern europe.

  • why is it illegal?

  • It was made illegal in Germany for a very long time after Its invention, due to some people dying and women miscarriaging during an early performance. that is true!

  • Why so?

  • lead content in the glass.....

  • why i'm not surprised?

  • iNTRESTING FACTS.

  • I hear to inherit this instrument, you need to fill it with cask wine and skull it then cry like a wolf without barfing.

  • brilliant!

  • fantastic!...absolutely... haha

  • absolutley watch thy videos

  • Absolutely!

  • Absolutely lol

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • absolutely amazing!

  • amazing!

  • I love this instrument. It's like playing with crystal glasses, only easier, and better sounding.

    If I were rich...

  • gnarly

  • coool

  • Amazing instrument and beautiful performance

  • I think Benjamin Franklin invented this instrument about 300 years ago.

  • a few drops of blood just dripped out of my ear.

  • Hand double.

  • The problem with them is the lead used to make the crystal glass causes eventual lead poisoning. That is where the myth about the music making you go crazy comes from.

  • people used to think the vibrations from playing the thing would cause insanity.

  • it's sounds from Harry Potter

  • gorgeous...

now do some Stairway to Heaven.

  • it sounds as if your in an ice castle=] haha i only say that because of Digimon world 1 where there was an ice castle and there was really beautiful music like this=] lame right? i know=] but still this guy is amazing

  • that was beautiful...

  • this thing appear on the unplugged korn concert :D

  • That's really neat!

  • you ever get any really nasty cuts from that thing?

  • Wasn't this instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin?

  • hmmmm i guess its cool...

  • *sob* beautiful!

  • it seems like the glass could break if the tone gets too pitch

  • really beautiful sound!

  • I've always loved the sound of this instrument.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • sounds incredible!

  • How the hell does it work?

  • you know how if you rub your finger over the wet rim of a crystal glass it makes a sound? this uses the same idea

  • Good

  • i love the sound of it!

  • Awesome !

  • That sound nice good job

  • cool

  • they use one of those on KoRn UNplugged...

  • there's a story, and i'm not sure if the guy in it was Benjamin Franklin or another player of the Glass Harmonica, but he was playing it at nght once. His wife awoke in the middle of the night and became confused and scared, because she thought that she had died and gone to heaven; because of the eerie and ethereal, but very beautiful music.

  • Hi ediblesponge -- Ben Franklin was in fact the inventor of the Glass Harmonica, he got the patent on it -- not sure if you knew that.

  • thats awesome

  • that is beautiful... awesome invention by BF... it could probably be run with one of those old school foot pedals they used on sewing machines to make it energy independent...

  • This instrument was invented by Benjamin Franklin and was one of his favorite inventions.

  • creepy..

  • i dont understand this instrument...it sounds realy cool but how is it used??

  • Do you see how there are many glass cylinders all arranged from largest to smallest along a central pipe that's constantly turning? The performer holds his fingers at different points on the cylinders depending on which notes he wants to play.

You can also see a small silver-ish bowl to the left of the screen; chances are good it's filled with water, and that's where the guy moistens his fingertips to play.

  • It's just like when you have a crystal glass and run your fingers around the edge so that it rings. This is the same concept, but instead of using normal glasses, he's got the glass spinning for him. xD

  • It's used the same way as it is possible to make a glass produce a tone, by rubbing a wet finger across the ring on the top. The round, different-sized cylinders spin, and the wet fingers make it produce the sound.

  • The instrument itself isn't actally that difficult to play. It's quite awsome, and exremely fun.

  • my mind was just blown away....that was amazing

  • what a weird instrument.

I dont even understand how its making any noise

  • Same concept as making a wine glass sing when you run your finger along the edge.

  • o0

what the hell is this xD

    youtube is so strange :>

  • Didn't Benjamin Franklin play this instrument?

  • im pretty sure he invented it.

  • Yes he invented it

  • Referring to Ben Frankin

  • Yes, I think your right.

I belive Franklin actually invented it.

It is not glass-harmonica. I think it is called an Armonica

  • wow

  • creepy cool.

  • that is ingenious! No more having to rotate your fingers AROUND a crystal glass! The glass rotates for you and you just plop your finger tips on the right sized glass top. Amazing...

  • I never seen so many weird instruments and all in 1 day at youtube. This one is cool too. Reminds me of a melody instrumental I hear during Christmas time I think. Very Christmas like.

  • I can play this song on glassharmonica hero on my xbox

  • Armonica as in Italian for 'Haromony'

  • Unless I'm mistaken the instrument is actually called a glass Armonica(Not harmonica) and was invented by Benjamin Franklin himself!

  • i thought he was really sweating, i didn't know you had to wet your hands to play. x]

  • now this is tight

  • how does hat instrument work?

  • like rubbing your finger round the rim of a glass i suppose. thats a damn fine bit of enginering!

  • Wow, I like this sound. Eerie, yet not overpoweringly so.

  • weird

  • Beautiful.
