  • Nice one Carl. Have you ever thought about making a little Sake set? Might be kinda interesting.

  • Hello Carl I winder if you could answer a question for me. I am fairly new to woodturnig and notice that I am suffering a bit of back ache when at the Lathe for a long period, Is there a rule of thumb for the height of the lathe relative to your body? I suspect that mine is too low. Standing up straight, where should the lathe centre be.

    Thanks in advance.. Martin ..uk

  • Hi Martin,

The rule of thumb is, standing at your headstockshould be level with your arm bent at the elbow. I have my lathe on blocks to achieve the right height.

    Thanks,

    Carl

  • @haydenHD

Thanks Carl. That seems to be the problem I am about 4 inches low, I will set up some blocks,

    Thanks for the tip

    Martin

  • Hey that look Beautiful!! i was wondering if you could make a wood apple. i keep seeing them online and dont get how to make it, i get how to get one side but how do you turn it around?

  • I'll see I haven't made a apple before.

    Thanks,

    Carl

  • Thanks for all the videos Carl, I've really enjoyed them all. As for the hot glue, one area of issue for me , was I first used the small craft glue gun, the glue was too thin and would start to harden too quickly, making for a weak joint to the scrap. Switched to the larger glue gun and no problems since. So I recommend staying away from the smaller glue guns.

  • Looks cute :) So it's easiest to always make the lid first?

  • No! I just have always have I don't think it matters.

    Thanks,

    Carl

  • Love your videos, love your work!

    /Nic.

  • @haydenHD

No, I didn't make that tool, it's called a spoon knife or a crooked knife and yup, works great! : )

  • Carl, Thanks for posting another great turning video. Nice looking box. When you are sanding, do you clean all the wax/oil/dust off the piece between grits or just move on to the next in the sequence?

    Thanks Again, Bob

  • Hi Bob, Yes I wipe it off in between all the grits.

    Thanks,

    Carl
