When you compare Bruno and Flair as performers, Flair was better on the mic, in ring, technical wrestling wise, he was relevant for probably longer than any wrestler (except Moolah) and he worked both babyface and heel. Bruno had the edge in physique and in raw displays of strength, but not much else in comparison.

Race was the better technical wrestler, but when it came to charisma, Bruno was the man. He may not have done as many moves as race, but everything he did was believable. He's the greatest champion in the history of the sport...not doubt about it.

Regarding Sammartino, it was a different world back then. In the kayfabe era there were far less acrobatics. Sammartino was a babyface which meant his matches involved putting over the heels. Billy Graham was the man that helped get interest back into wrestling same goes for Backlund, i said at the start that i respect Bruno for the attention he brought onto wrestling.

Bruno was not really that good in the ring he hardly had any moves in his repertoire. Look at guys like Backlund, he had tons of moves. Backlund could put Bruno to shame.

Basically the guy was much like John Cena only that he would make a more methodical approach.

Harley Race however, could even make a broomstick seem worthy in a match. Race had real technical skills, Sammartino did not.

He couldn't even cut a straight promo if his life depended on it, he was a guest on a Pipers Pit segment and Piper ate him up and spat him out.

Fans would become almost bored with the same old same old, which is what happened to Hogan eventually. They want a bit of change. @ECWnWWF Ric Flair has really held world titles 26 times, but wrestling history doesn't recognize a lot of the short times he'd drop a belt in Puerto Rico or another country, then win it back days later. Ric Flair's title reigns combined actually total over 12 years. Bruno was great, but he wrestled in a different time when long title reigns weren't as uncommon, Bob Backlund had a very long reign not long after Bruno as well. Cable TV kind of quickened the pace of title progression in the 80s.
