  • hey do you know who played mademe giry and meg giry in this cast?

  • I got casted as Piangi in my schools production SOOO FUCKING HIGH!!!

  • You just can't beat a broadway production... I was initially excited when the movie came out, but not anymore - now whenever I need a phantom fix I listen to the OST.

Even though Emmy Rosum is supposed to be a Opera singer in real life, she's pitchy (the aria - OMG) and has little expression.

And Gerard Butler? please. He was cast for looks (ironic, as he's playing the PHANTOM) and he had to *learn* how to sing...

The whole movie makes me twitch.

    Erik is not pleased.

  • i'm playing piangi in my school's production and its mad hard but its so fun !

  • I am Piangi as well in a youth production...they are transposing it to a baritone (:

  • I'm Raul :D

  • WTF, everyone is piangi, i got Andre, i tried out for phantom, but seniors are always better at everything. Our piangi is a kinda goofy guy but we can deal with him.

  • @jjj5541 Shut it kyle. You love being andre. And im amazing at it and you know it....

  • @zkinsey1 , Yes I would agree Zack you are the best piangi there could ever be. And you have a good point, I love being Andre. By goofy I of course meant you are hysterical.

  • i wish someone would make this into a full opera.

  • @Dancingfool721

    @coolmoonguy08

Oh my gosh. I was cast as Piangi as well! It's such a fun, yet scary part. I definitely think it will help our vocal skills in the long run, though! :) Best of luck to you guys!

  • All of you that do the phantom of the opera at your school are so lucky! Our High School is so cheap and stupid that they would never think to perform TPOTO. =( My dream is to sing as the phantom himself

  • haha i got cast as piangi too

  • hahaha piangi may be high but the tenor ones got it bad too lol

  • Oh my goodness! My schools production of The Phantom of the Opera's opening night is tomorrow! D= I'm soooo nervous! This song is one of the hardest for me. Fingers crossed! I hope all of you who are also in the play are doing fabulous! We need to show the world how truely amazing our high schools are for being able to succeed in this. (= Quite an accomplishment.

  • OMG im so scared! I got Piangi in my school's production in phantom It's so high!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • @Dancingfool721 Well, best of luck to you!

  • @Dancingfool721 not even lying same with me! and i feel you!

  • @Dancingfool721 High Cs are horribly difficult for me, even though I'm a tenor ... always end up sounding either falsetto or very thin and squawky haha

  • @Dancingfool721 at University High school? :)

  • @Dancingfool721 lol Piangi only goes up to a C! Carlotta goes up to an E! I have to be her in my school show. LOLOLOL!

  • @AstridElphieLovegood when I played the role of Piangi at my school I was hitting a D.

  • @Dancingfool721 How'd you do on the high C? :P

  • I just got cast as Piangi in my school's production of Phantom. Should be interesting, haha. Thanks for posting!

  • @ksyankeejetfan Too cool! Break a leg!

  • @genmaximus110 And a vocal chord ;D

(I got this role as well. Haha.)

  • If you watched the movie at all, you would notice that the actors casted for Carlotta and Piangi were casted to be terrible ON PURPOSE for humorous effect- Piangi believes he is "all that," and Carlotta even more so, acting the part of the comical diva primadonna. If you watch in the rehearsal scene when she sings for the new owners, she looks somewhat disturbed by their disinterest in her and you can see how it affects her singing. You can also see when she sings her best and believes it is her

  • best, the managers have these looks on their faces like listening to her is painful.

Their bold, brash, unbearable voices are also supposed to contrast Emmy Rossum's (Christine) timid, delicate, but strong voice, to make her seem like absolute perfection in comparison.

  • @Aethia True, but this is still the Paris Opera. They wouldn't hire horrible singers.

  • @genmaximus110 They also wouldn't hire horrible actors, which, according to the Phantom, is what Carlotta is. All that matters is that the people love her, which is more publicity and more money for the managers.

  • is this from or similar to any pieces from an actual opera?

  • @KiyoKenshin Nope. It's an Webber/Hart original.

  • @genmaximus110 oh. well Webber and Hart did very well in recreating the romantic style of music, I feel. I think it sounds a lot like something you'd hear in classical opera repetoire!

  • @KiyoKenshin Yeah, it certainly doesn't sound modern. I wish he would write more in this style.

  • HANNIBAL COMES!! I luv luv luv it

  • It makes me sad, knowing what happened to poor Carthage after the Punic Wars..... :-(

  • Amazing! I wish they had this for the the OLC.

  • I wish that ALW would write an opera based on this bit !

  • Im so glad I found this. I lost my CD for Toronto's version of Phantom, and Piangi's solo is my favorite.. Colm Wilinson is possibly my least favorite actor, but almost everyone else in this productions far outshines any other performance of the show.

  • I agree about Colm. He was just waaaaaay too dramatic.

  • Thank you for the recording, it's in great quality and it's the second "modification" I made on the OLC cast CD, first was the Music of the Night, I replaced it with the preview one, where Michael sings the whole thing with the lyrics and I like and the second is this, cause I would (could) never put the movie's Hannibal on it, it's.. urgh. I agree with the description box, trough.

  • You're welcome. This is possibly the best track on the entire Canadian cast CD. I do not like the Phantom they chose for that performance. He's way too dramatic, constantly. Christine, where her voice is good, and possibly even more operatic than Sarah Brightman, also tends to put too much drama in the final scenes when she gets "emotional." But, overall, she was a really good Christine. Her performance was always hindered by the bad ones of Phantom and Raoul.
