  • your lucky I live in newengland and never get out to hunt great sites like the ones you do it is a dam shame

  • F##k "progress"

  • I really liked how this was done.

  • Worked on a old house and the carpenter found a coin in it used by the british but mostly rejected in the colony especially by the irish. He gave it back to the historical society that owned/ran the historic house. Like he told me, i may be a screwball from the crazy 60's but i'm a honest screwball.

  • HH

  • Beatiful Indian!!!!

  • Nice finds on that site Bill, good job. I am always saddened to see modern "progress" killing our heritage. Once it's all gone we can never get it back.

  • i live in berkley mass, mostly all woods 10 years ago, now the woods are almost gone as they keep up with new developments, you can't open a store around berkley mass, but you can sure over crowd this once peaceful town, now all day i hear hammers, saws, seems like hundreds of trucks driving by, my water pressure keeps going down, the coyotes, wild turkeys and deers are running out of woods to keep sheltered my taxes also keep going up, thanks to liberal assholes!

  • Hey nice job! What kind of detector do you have? How much was it?

  • Hey Guys: Use a battery powered reciprocating saw for the tree roots. Just an idea. I used one for tree roots to remove in my yard.

  • @vair63guy That's not a bad idea...thanks :)

  • from oklahoma here..we just grab and g

  • Thanks for this great video love the New England area (from GA). Working in Hingham I had one day to hunt with some success. Found 2 large pennies dating 1816,1833 and 1864 2cent piece w/small motto. Metal detecting is a passionate hobby for me and my oldest brother.

  • i think the guy in the red shirt is hot!

  • Bill, I really enjoy all your video's!!! Can you tell me how I go about ordering your DVD? Would really love to get my hands on one!! Thanks So Much, keep the Fisher swinging, and keep bringing us video's!!

  • dismantle the fireplace if its gona be distryoed they hiede laot of thing in contructing fireplaces benethe the bricks you never know

  • Can someone tell me what the big deal is about digging up a few coins and other things? Whats a good cheap detector to start with?

  • Items found = 25.00$ broken shovel = $24.99 $ Congrats you made a whole 2010 U.S. penny LOL ! Nah only bust'n ya. Nice video good job & good luck in the future.

  • great job

  • i live in CT

  • I love hunting colonial cellar holes.i just dug a GW button last month

  • what a great site! awesome finds! do yourself a favor and buy a predator shovel

  • Great series of videos.. ignore the idiot comments on here. great show!

  • Pretty woods, neat site...Shame that "progress" will take it.

  • @SHNewEngland exactly; or the "professionals" don't go out and try to recover stuff like this; and then bitch about when we do...better the artifacts stay in the ground and rot away and no one ever knows the history behind it..its just silly

  • Those are four wheeler ruts from hunters...

  • @MeyersBlake Yes, that's obvious- but they are called "Cart Roads" here for a reason. What I meant was these were the same colonial roads traveled before & looked probably exactly the same as then.....

  • I get really dirty but it is worth for the great finds enjoyed

  • i still like my silver charlie mccarthy spoons i dug up in oklahoma.....in the yard of a friends old rental house......this part of the country.....its barber dimes......and harmonicas..........as the oldest stuff.........but its a great hobby....ya gotta travel

  • How do you approach private property owners and ask them to metal detect their property?

  • @mrpatricko . . . .. go up to them and say " hey do you mind if I do a litle metal detecting. most people wont mind.

  • Cool stuff man. Keep 'em coming. By the way; my home town is in Lewiston/Auburn, Maine.

  • 14 days from my birthday (almost born on the 29th) and in the state that i live in and FUCKING LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great finds!!!

  • hey there, nice video. i seriously like to get into metal deceting, few questions: do i need to have a license for doing metal detecting?/ what brand of metal detecting apparatus do you recommend?/and how much money is needed to start this hobby? thanks!

  • Great finds Bill! I really like that berry and vine design buckle! From one New Englander to another, Happy Hunting!

  • I wanted to start coin shooting but it's illegal to take things from public property if its over a 100 years old I heard. I could ask for permission to check out private property but I feel weird asking home owners.

    rickster348,

And why should archaeologists have a monopoly on historical artifacts?

  • I have never been bothered for "coinshooting"....but private property is the way to go. All of our sites, even foundations are all private property...

  • @ContinentalArmy1776 - Nice finds. To my knowledge and research (I can only speak for New York State), it is only illegal to dig/take from federal or state land.

  • "Saving history"?, Now of course you took your finds right over to the museum and dropped them off, right?

  • Well done, nice video. Thanks for sharing with us and look forward to seeing more.

    Best,

    Chris

  • Thanks Bill!!! Your episodes of Saving History New England inspired me to make my own episodes. I call my show Recovering Relics. It is also based in New England!!!

  • Don't forget that this era, Colonial, was British History.....

  • you counld maybe talk to someone about not cutting down that area idk

  • 4 minutes into the video and you still havent done anything,

  • I just love stupid comments.....Going on 30,000 views now in case you overlooked that, & your the first who dislikes the intro. My video's peek at the end, gotta problem with it, don't watch..........

  • Destroying other artifacts??

The guy said the bulldozers are coming to flatten the whole ranch!! There'll be nothing left.

How are those little buckles not more corroded?

  • The buckles are made of brass so they do not rust....

  • Saving history? Should just be called "finding stuff"

  • Hey great videos man. Im just starting to use a metal detector. Im a huge history fan and living in New Jersey iv been looking for a lot of American Revolution-era artifacts. Do you know what the rule is as far as where you are allowed to use a metal detector? Im sure they are not allowed everywhere but do you know if state and county parks usually allow it, or do you have to be stealthy so nobody sees you? Thank a lot and ill keep watching your videos.

  • Most state parks, etc are protected & off limits-

So, we stick to private property. This particular foundation we got landowners permission so there's no worries....

  • a broken shovel would really make me angry!

  • Hi friends next month i will be getting the new Whites Vison metal detector my first ever might as well go top of the line and learn that way i live in Long Island NY on the North Fork which goes back to the early 1600,s there is so many old home sites that once stood in now wooded areas and miles and miles of open beach all winter i been watching you tube videos on metal detecting im hooked now i cant wait to get started , ill be making videos also Jim .

  • Hi Jim... Waiting on some video's fomr you! How do you like that whites!

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • I have done real well here in Putnam County NY with finding old coins and relics in this area..There are many many cellar holes hidden in the back of the woods that no one would see, except now it is easier to find cause theres no leaves on the trees and the woods arent so dense...After watching your great finds it put me in the mood to go out tomorrow so I got the DFX charging up to hit a few cellar holes tomorrow...Gooch

  • What did u find dude?

  • Wonderful video! Do you keep your finds or do they go to a museum or revert back to the property owner? I have to say...nice shirt! LoL I Have the same one in blue.

  • This older man didn't want any finds, but I usually do ask first hand about a split, etc...Museums call us "looters" & "thieves". They dislike amatures so we don't even bother anymore....

  • Bill, GREAT video. Have you considered working WITH museums? By that I simply mean educating them - not that they would be very receptive. Do you belong to any groups?

    Again, GREAT video.

  • I'm sure there are curators that would be more open...I just have yet to run across any. I will continue to have my own traveling showcase for schools, historical societies, etc. I love educating kids the best.

  • lol what would they need to be educated about? The only thing I don't agree with metal detecting is that these guys could potentially be destroying other artifacts. but then again I studied archaeology in university lol

  • Great video. I live in Little Compton RI and know of atleast three of these cellar holes near my home. Do you belong to any clubs or give talks anywhere? Like to learn more. Chris

  • Hi Chris, I have always wanted to hunt L. Compton. I give talks all the time & have one coming up in Warwick soon. drop me a youTube e-mail & we can talk more..maybe do some filming at the cellars you mentioned....

  • That would be great, could you tell me where your next talk/lecture will be, I would enjoy going.

  • Really enjoyed the video and finds!!

  • Awesome video

  • looks like a T2 your using, i use one here in england, tis a good machine,

  • Hi Bill,

I have a Whites prizm 5 and it's an awesome detector. Here where I live on Plum Island,I have found my first silver.A 1944 Walking Liberty half dollar.Plus about 90 clad coins.

  • Boy, I miss doing this! I live in PA now, but when I lived in VA, there were cellar holes like this all over. Trouble is, VA is being bulldozed under at a rate that I couldn't handle any longer.

  • kapacon, do you MD? Where in PA?

  • Kick ass video....I am buying a detector soon...I had an old bounty hunter from the 1980's lookin for a lost hunting arrow, i found a cattle evener and a old scythe blade...Under a giant pine in my yard. What should I havae for a beginning md kit and how much should I invest for a decent kit?

  • thank-you so much for the post. You have got me so interested in medal dectecting. Soon as pay day arives I'll be out there on the hunt as you.

  • nice finds!

  • very awesome!!!!

  • Damn i love these videos! Greets to Scdigger :)

  • Loved it! Keep up the good work and liked the additional information about the pilled stones indicating that the area was plowed at one time.

  • Bill,

Have you tried treasure hunting in the North shore area of Mass.? Like Newburyport area.I live on Plum Island which is rich in history.

  • I never have Chris....sounds like a great area. Hopefully you have a detector and can turn up something...

    thanks for watching

  • cool video

  • Thanks for posting this. I haven't been able to detect for about 5 months and it's great watching a little of it on Youtube. The F75 looked like it did a heck of a job on a heavily hunted site. HH and post more!!

  • Good attempt for your first episode. Get some better digging equipment and get out there again. Good luck this Spring/Summer!

  • How depth the detector can sense?

  • Hi, it depends on the size of the object....

mine can find a coin about a foot deep.

  • Super Video my Friend !!

  • great video!!! great finds!

  • Great vid, I am looking forward to more great finds.

Also,if you have a backpack with you, you should get an e-tool from a surplus shop, they dont weigh much and the fold up. Its easier than carring a full sized shovel with you into the woods.

  • Thanks, & your right & I do have an Ames US e-tool I hike with...I just had the wrong shovel in my pack that day consentrating more on camera eqip....

  • i'm getting a whites mxt. is it a good detector?? ok for relics and coins? thanks

  • Yes, it's a very good choice....designed by Dave Johnson, who designed most of my favorite Fisher units.

  • Excellent! Looking forward to more.

    wayne_etc

  • Hey Man really enjoyed your video. Some awesome finds for sure.I had told SC Digger I have a neat site to hunt this summer.A friend of mine here in NW Ohio lives on a site that was a battle between the Indians and the pioneers that were trying to settle this area.If I find anything I'll post a video and let you all see. Thanks again for the great video.Look forward to seeing more

  • sounds like a super site...good luck

  • Very nice. I saved an old beer can today. lol

  • Very nice video, well worth the time. Larry

  • Thanks

  • What state are you in ?

  • based in RI.....hunt all over New England as this site was NH...

  • Bill, Very nice finds! What I like about your video is how you let us hear the target response. I hope your other two partners will do the same.

    Keep it up!

  • Great job Bill...glad we're finally able to get Saving History: New England "on the air!"

    Greg
