Just bought a Burton Bullet, really pleased with it! Going to test it / set it up next weekend. Looked at several boards Ride, K2, Rome but as I needed a wide board which would be forgiving (I'm not very good) the Bullet seemed to be the best all mountain board for me to improve on.

Go for a board roughly chin height. Shorter will be easier to learn turns but slower. Longer -faster. If you are big feet like me (UK11) You need a wide waist board. I learned on a Burton Cruzer, very forgiving ride.

start out with a simple burton board like the clash or bullet and bindings until you know what type of riding you want to do. If you wont be boarding long i suggest that you try rentals first because having your own equipment is not very beneficial when you are just beginning to learn

It's cool to hate on Burton because they're the big evil corporation oh no!!! People forget that if it weren't for Burton, snowboarding would still just be a bunch of surf bums pissing off skiers with crap they put together in their parents' garages. It might be true that they're more business than pleasure now and will tend to rely on their brand power rather than on financially risky innovations, but that comes with being a big company, and we need a big one to market the sport to new people.
