To be fair though, I'm pretty sure this was Alawi Shia not mainstream Imamiyah (Twelver) Shia. Alawi Shia worship Ali, celebrate Christmas and Easter, believe in the Trinity of Ali: the name (Allah), the meaning (Ali) and the light (Muhammad) staghfar'Allah, don't believe in the obligation of prayers and mosque attendance and so forth.
(2) But if the Quran's purpose is to uplift humanity and teach us the righteous path, how can God possibly hide the meaning of his message (risala) to believers? Analyzed thoroughly, shia doctrine makes no sense at all. Shia clerics are encouraging the worship of men (Hussain & Ali) and distorting the word of God! It also has its roots in ethnic nationalism. It spread mainly through Persia bcuz it allowed Persians to differentiate themselves from the Arabs.

Yet the shias believe that the meaning of the Quran is not known to the commoner...how convenient!
