  • Lefty Frizzell's version in 1951 was the first version I ever heard. It's been one of my favorites since then.

  • The same level of soul and feeling as anything by Bessie.

A real shame nobody ever saw them together on the same stage.

  • OH! Many thanks. :) Best wishes to you from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

  • LOVE Him! Thanks for posting one of my favorite Jimmie songs.

  • @LostieXEver My pleasure. Thanks for stopping by the "20s-30s" museum. Come by again-we're always open and after your kind comment you will never be charged admission. (I've informed my people). Best New Year's wishes to you.

  • What was your dad's name?

Most places in those days that a band could play in, my dad played. He spent a lot of his early years in Dallas and even doing border radio from Piedras Negras, Mexico. He came back to Houston and then Beaumont before finally retiring in Houston. He passed away in 1964.

  • Thanks for posting.!My dad was Shelly Lee Alley who wrote Travelin Blues and Gambling Barroom Blues that Jimmie recorded. He also played twin fiddles with his brother Alvin on Travelin Blues.

  • @MrTookie65 My dad owned a club"speakeasy" near Brenham in the 30s. Shelly Lee may have played at his club because I know he knew Shelly Lee and Alvin as he also lived only 15 miles east of Alleyton. He probably played ball against your dad and uncle in Bernardo, Cat Spring, Frelsburg and Sealy in those interesting past times.

  • I personally have always thought that Jimmie Rodgers is the father of

the american music. His legacy is outstanding,a lot of nowadays teenagers

don't know him,but his music still stands.

  • I visit the Jimmie Rodgers Museum every year, in Meridian Mississippi!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks I have been looking for a song that came before the 40's!

  • Great song, thanks for the upload & all the info in the video track.

  • love it

  • Rightly called "The Father Of C.W" Jimmy was stupendous, as this recording testifies.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • My family has been a Jimmie Rogers fan for my entire life. Shortly after I married my wife, I found out that her great uncle was Shelly Alley, the songwriter. Great video.

  • That was GREAT, I think he was one of the best.

    Thanks for posting.

    Bill

  • My pleasure Bill-glad you enjoyed this little historical offering from Jimmie.

  • Avec um perfum de Tyrolez, mais bin agreable d´ecouter.

  • Merci pour commentaire poetique. Je me rappelle perfum de Tyrolez-vaches laiteres. LOL!!!

  • Thanks for this introduction, I had never heard Jimmie Rodgers before.

  • I'll be putting a few more "Rodgers" on YT in the coming months. He was truly an innovative showman but is rarely heard of today in spite of the fact that he was the first C&W superstar.

  • Great story-never knew about this guy.

  • Thanks for stopping by Tom. He was quite a talented and interesting fellow.

  • Thanks for the interesting story and music !
