  • @robertmp002

Your the fucking dumb ass dude!! Oscers grow to be like 14" You my friend are an ignorant mother fucker!!! You have got to be the stupidest person on the face of this earth! Learn about the fish before you go buy one and put it in a 20 gallon tank you dumb fuck!!! If I here you say something as stupid as that again I'll lose my faith in humanity!!

  • too sad............why do people keep pets and know nothing about them.. how ignorant...baad karma...

  • wheres the ho,e in its head, i wantd to see live brain

  • oscar in a 20 gallon limited to feeder goldfish and water changes 1 time every 6 months? nothing good about that. young oscars can be in a 30 gallon minimun ,,once they get big you gotta upgrade unless its only him in the tank which i doubt,, and dont only feed live fish and tank should be cleaned 1 or 2 times a month, oscrads are very messy eaters.

  • my oscars were sick because of the the bad filter , i got a new one 1000 gallons filter with uv for a 100 gallon tank

they are still not getting better :( any tips anyone please

they are always at the bottom of the tank they eat only little and my black oscar has something on its head

  • Ok i care about my fish and treat themlike gold but REALLY? the music from platoon seems a but dramatic. I'm going to eat fish for supper....

  • so sad :(

  • Twice a year water changes and nothing but feeder goldfish to eat? Amazing he's still alive.

  • i've had a oscar for about...9 years. never changed the water untill it got murkey about a year and a half) it has never been treated for anything exept ick. i had about...70 holes in its head, and is just fine...calm down....mine has a way worst life than this....oh, its my moms. not mine. im still a minor. im the only person keeping that poor fish alive. :\

  • omg that's so sad. i have a large oscar in my 90 gallon with lots of open space, lots of filtration, and i change 50% of the water every 7-10 days

  • @HolySasquatchTurd make water change max 20% you make 50% change that makes you a killer.

  • @priksarxida Been doing 75% for years. Nothing happens. All you have to do is match your water chemistry.

  • @HolySasquatchTurd it's the best to battle nitrate in a tank that has no plants and giant heavy eaters.

  • My tiger oscar is about 8 inches,in a 55 gallon and hoping to upgrade to either 75 or 90 gallon for him

  • where the hole?

  • please answer this question for me! i need to know as fast as possible.. ok I just bought 4 cichlids that kinda looks lika my piranhas but just alot smaller and i got them for a cheaper price becouse they had Hole in the head disease, the guy in the pet store told me that its okey to let these cichlids to be fish food for my piranhas, and that it wont make the piranhas suffer for HITH or spread it out in the water plz answer !, couse if it can i will throw the cichlids in the toilet!

  • i have a red devil with a huge ulcer between his eyes.every now and then it heals completely over but appears again every 3 months or so.i have tried just about everything but it doesnt seem to be hith

  • @boogieou818 sounds like herpes.........haha idk what it is hope your red devil does okay how is he now

  • @Patthew113 it was tuberculosis.how did he get herpes?he didnt suck me off?

  • @boogieou818 It just soundslike herpes because it dissapears then comes back, i wasn't actually implying thta he had it, how is your red devil now

  • @Patthew113 yeh i know i was just been silly.sadly i had him put down there is no known cure for it.the symptoms are very much like hole on the head and can be passed onto humans.

  • i have a red devil with a huge ulcer between his eyes.every now and then it heals completely over but appears again every 3 months or so

  • 55 gallon is great so stop acting like it hurts them so badly. u shouldnt get a tall 55 gal though a 55 gal long is best.

  • @napoleontak 55 gallons is fish prison. It is too bad the fish can't speak for themselves. Great would be a 300 gallon tank with an amazonic template.. flies for them to jump out of and catch like they do in the wild. Stop acting like the bare minimum is "great!" lol

  • @velhg73 its not great but its great enough to keep them happy. sure bigger is always better but a 55gal is good enough. if u want then u can make it bigger. and if u want them to be like the wild then put yours in the amaon jungle in the wild.

  • @velhg73 my oscar is in a 20g tank and he's doing just fine... you dumbass' don't know what you're talking about

  • @napoleontak not really, a 55 will be to small for them, because the tank only have a 13" wide size, it'll have turning problems.

  • a 100 gallon is not the minimum for just 1 oscar,it is 55 gallons, but if you wanted to add more fishes to the tank, getting at least a 120 gallon to 150 gallon aquarium set up is the best thing to do depending what you get.Right now I have quite a few in my 55 gallon for a grow out tank, will be buying a 120 gallon long tank in a couple of months.

  • @burzumaske20 IF you want to squeeze a fish that gets 12+ in size and provide the smallest sized tank.. then a 55 would be MORE than appropriate! IF you want to make it comfortable and allow it to stretch its proverbial legs... a 100 is the utmost MINIMUM.... these guys are amazing hunters in the wild. They dart 10-25 feet to catch their prey at amazing speeds... I suppose keeping a prisoner in a 6x9 cell is the minimum... but ideally you want them to have some room to move.

  • @velhg73 it just depends if you go with a tall or long tank.I have a long 55 gallon, plenty of room for him to turn, swim, hunt for rosey fishes. The 150 gallon I am considering to buy instead of the 120 gallon is 73 x 19 x 29.That is plenty of room for a 15 inch Oscar to grow in,with out issues.

  • @velhg73 "plenty of room" is such a subjective word that NEVER takes in account what these fish really need or if asked would prefer. All I know and go with is what I have seen in the wild and the DRASTIC difference in their behavior when kept in a 55 gallon tank vs much bigger situations. In what many people consider ok, a 55, 60 etc.. they are sedintary and swim limitedly. in MUCh bigger their true personalities come out.. they are agile.. and exercised. 50 adequate? maybe to keep alive.

  • @velhg73 Either way,I have upgraded anyways,to keep more fishes in a tank,I already knew from the start the Oscar would outgrow the 55 gallon, that is why I was able to get a 125 gallon set up 72x18x23.That isn't consider a minimum, since he has plenty of room to go from one side to another and sit sideways to look at me.

  • it's impressive he survived at all

  • thats not that bad you should be lucky my oscar has allmost no face left and now he wil not eat eny thing

  • My oscar came down with hith and this is what I did. First I got some plain unflavored gelatin. Then I got some good oscar food and melted it down in water. Then I added some dried blood worms to that. Then I bought some small shrimp. I mashed it all up and added the gelatin. It made a nice fish jello not to firm but not so soft it falls apart in tank water. I also stuffed fish mox into that jello. He LOVES his jello. Along with FREQUENT tank cleanings. It cleared his hith right up.

  • i dont see any holes im new to oscar keeping and just bout a 2cm one for my 51 gallon . i just got it today and has only had tropic flakes that i hand feed. dont worry i will buy oscar food. but can they die from "hole in the head"?

  • 10% water change EVERY WEEK + varied diet = happy long living fish. feeding Goldfish are not a varied diet and is cruel.

  • Song?

  • dam every 6 months you even be able to see my oscar after 2 mo. he is a poop factory

  • This is sad, someone brought in an albino Oscar to the petstore where my friend works with a bad case of "hole in the head" and they didn't even understand that it was their fault. I have two Oscars and I always make sure they have a diverse diet, a pellet staple with vitamins, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and a few feeders for the exercise.

  • where is the hole in the head?

  • i dont think that is a hole in your head i think its more like a more maturity type

  • UVC lamp, and plants solve the problem most of them

  • damn that oscar is really old

  • it;s not old it's rooted from hith

  • I see this all the time! Some of these people need a hole in their head!

  • thats a disgrace, a terrible diet and living conditions, the guy clearly didnt do any research into getting an oscar

  • keeping these fish is fucking stressful

  • if you're not a football player, then playing football for a professional team is also stressful. If you love fish it's not stressful its just what you do. Why buy an oscar if you don't want one in the first place that's brainless.

  • keeping fish is so fu£king depressing

  • fuck yer it shore can be my 4 1/2" oscar has just got a small cause of HITH and my diet is ,cichlid pelet, mealworms, beef hart, color encharter HELP!!!!!

  • My 1st pair died because of this and a bacteria overload. They got every disease at the same time. It was horrible.

  • no offense but u dont put a oscar in a 20 gal tank unless of a small about 4 in size

  • idiot. HE DIDNT DO THAT. the other people did.

  • what "other people"

  • i didnt see any hole?

was it that little black thing on the nose?

  • poor oscar. =[ my oscar eats everything. cichlid pellets, guppies, small goldfish, flakes, bloodworms, sometimes he'll murder off a ghost shrimp and eat them too.... everything. o.o

  • Replace the goldfish and guppies with frozen silversides, It will eliminate the chance of sickness, and has more nutrition.

  • a hole in the head is cause by feeder fish everyone!

  • hey evrybody plz look at my fish tanks i put a lot of hard work in them and paid for them to

  • You can get some good medicine out there which will cure hole in the head. My yellow belly piranha had it and I've treated him and he's fine now. I can't remember the name of the medicine to hand but I've still got the bottle at home if anyone wants to know the name of it

  • my little sis's 2nd fish got that disease

  • the water in the tank should be fullly changed about 6 month up to year with fortnightly part changes the fish build up important bactaria that helps them fight disese and bad bactaia

  • The water should never be fully changed!!!

  • Comment removed

  • best of luck little bud.

Hopefully your owner stays away from petsmart feeders

  • @hawnted Petsmart employees should educate people before they buy fish. I knew a lot about fish before I purchased my cichlids, but if I didn't I could've bought them and put them in a fish bowl with no filter and when they died, I could've just gone right back and bought more with no questions asked. Frustrating.

Take two minutes and educate the buyer for the good of living creatures!

  • lol platoon music good!

  • omg guys got so many big liter i only got 15 gal fish man u guys are so rich my mom just bought dis for 99$

  • Every six month water change no fucking wonder he got hole in the head even if you had 2 canister filters thats still bad

  • To Coconutpie8:

how u gonna get an Oscar fish...and kinda hope for it to die so u can get another fish? You bored with it or something? thats not cool

  • i hope the piranhas bite ur fingers off dumb fuKC

  • i have 140 gal for 4 fish and i want to get bigger for them

  • I have two tigers for four years, early on they in a 20 gallon tank. They devolped hole in the head. Hole in the head is caused by a parasite in their crap. It was so bad that one of them almost lost an eye. Now they have recovered and its been over a year. They are in a 60 gallon tank. I feed them cat food (it does not break down into the water) and fed them gold fish (20 at a time) but only once a month. We used some chemicals but limited. Stress coat and some stuff to help them heal.

  • yea thats true the feeder fish u get at the petstore are breed with hormones and other chemicals so they can produce more offspring so unless ur feeding him guppies u personally grew its not a good idea

  • people please read this-----my oscar has a hole in head and i need your best answer i i care about him and how to cure is hole in head--------thanks-------

  • I have fishes and some other animals but here they all are in good condition

  • this is a worthwhile video. maybe it well help some people learn how to treat animals

  • man my fish has the same thing but I changed the water gave him Pimafix and Melafix medicine put some veggies in his diet added some salt and now he's getting better but I still need to clean up the tank hope ur gets cured!

  • water change every 6 MONTHS??? WTF WAS HE THINKING

  • if that video didnt turn people straight then i dont know what will.......

  • how big of a tank does 1 tiger oscar need to be happy?

  • imho.... 100 gallons minimum

  • okay, my oscar is a lil baby, is 45gal enough

  • @velhg73 no....... 55gallon fits two. 100 you could do maybe three or a school of turq jewels. my friend and i share a 55g with 2 osscars one being his the other being mine. full grown and happy.

  • @velhg73 75 is recommended. 55 is absolute minimum.

  • no not 100 gall, 45 per fish

  • the minimum for one and just one is 55 gallons ive asked numerous ppl

  • @HedgehogsRule101 75-100 gallons for sure.

  • lol chit

  • yes, cried and retarded

  • its a fukin shame

  • there is a medication that starts with "My" mya something my memory fails. this will cure it but the fish will be scared for life. My oscar hase this. I thought it was ick. the fish store said to check for electrical current in the water. supposedly thats what causes it.

  • wow. as a fellow oscar keeper this makes me sad :( if some one mis treated a puppy the whole world would be pissed, but if some one puts a oscar in a 20 gallon tank and only feeds it feeders no one gives a fuck. fish still living things, just because they live in a tank dose not mean they can be negelcted. They need care just like all other pets. If it was up to me, oscars should not be sold to people with a tank smaller then 70 gallons.

    just my two cents

  • Kills me to know the many people that adopt fish because they look cool. After taking care of Juno, my oscar, I would definitely say do your homework before adopting.

  • im sorry.....my fish just died.....like 5 minutes ago... i feel terrable now ;(

  • HOW DO YOU FREAKIN CURE IT .... I HAVE A BLACK ANGILFISH(FULL GROWN)... HE HAS IT bad I CAN SEE THE INSIDE OF HIS HEAD.....its depressing... i feel bad for him.... and how can you help stop[ the pain ... he looks terrable...

  • sad music. i cried. but im retarded

  • most ppl put too much gravel in their tanks. Forget the under gravel filters. They promote filth. Put only one layer of gravel on bottom and let your over the side filter do the work. Makes for healthier fish

  • where is hole??

  • i don't see any hole in the head.

  • I buyed a Jack dempsey from a walt mart, they were 4 in a 20 gallons max...But he is in a very good condition and happy now in a 75 gallons.

  • sad

  • hows he doing now, is he cured

  • Has anyone ever heard of NOT using active carbon with Oscars to prevent Hole-in-the-head?

  • Never tried it but was told about at a fish swap

  • Yes, I take the carbon section out of my filter out and replace it with non-carbon based filter rocks. I've also been told that a very high protien diet can cause hole in the head.

  • i buy lots of figh from wall mart and i treat them good then i realese them to a place where there safe or let my frend have some.

  • Poor guy. Is he still alive?

  • You should check out the fish they sell at wal marts. Poor buggers. Everytime you buy a fish from Wal Mart it should be considered a rescue.

  • yeahh it is they dont even care and peta shut down the fish thingy at wal mart by my house

  • my oscar has popeye now!

  • is that your fish?

  • Poor oscar!

  • this goes to show, people who dont know about fish should have them.

  • a 20 gallon tank for that big of an oscar? BIG mistake, oscars that size need maybe a 100 gal minumum this is proven to just ask a pro (i am not ofcourse but my info is from pros) i have 2 tiger oscars that are 4 maybe 5 inches and have them in a 25 gal but will need to get at least a 150 gal before they get much bigger.that bulg on your oscars head could be because his internal organs(in this case his brain) are outgrowing his skeleton which if in a 20 gal would have stoped growing long ago.

  • Its not his brain trying to grow out of his skull. Its called Hole in the Head disease or Heximita caused by parasites/nematodes/flagelites from lack of clean water, poor food quality, and or stress.

  • His brain growing out of his skull....LOL right. My jack starting showing signs of HITH. I've heard that carbon filters accelerate the illness by irritating the fishes skin so I took the carbon pad out of my eheim...it really did seem to help

  • this happend 2 my 2 oscars execpt like 4 months after it when they healed they died... my other fish no clue what it is kept picking out their eyes n shit

  • its sad to tink that someone could do that to there oscar thats just crul

  • Hole in the Head is really cause by "Heximita" according to the "University of Florida" the following medications have been used to cure hole in the head: "Parasite Clear" "Pimafix" "Melafix", use these three medications together until your fish is healthy and eating again.

Heximita is a flagellate protozoa that starves your fish to death, treatment is easy.

  • Levamisole and Metronidazole are going to be more powerful when dealing with advanced stages of Heximita. Always look at the mg per dose that you are Actually treating. Sometimes parasite clear and primafix dont have the required strengths. Melafix... I would NEVER treat for heximita with it. Its more anti fungal and anti bacterial.. so perhaps for secondary infections but will do very little for Heximita itself

  • The two medications Pimafix and Melafix are designed to work together, I have used a combination of all three to treat HITH.

Parasite clear, pimafix and melafix works well when you can't find Levamisolo and Metronidazole at a local store in a small town of about 65,000 people. True, having those medications around would be very nice, and will work better then what I used.

They are also sometimes harder to find then what I used.

  • Get a local vet to prescibe the metro and or levimasole. Order it online. Primafix and Melafix do NOTHING for parasites, nematodes, and flagelites. They are anti bacterial and anti fungal of which doesnt cause Hexamita. Its probably your parasite clear thats doing the job of which it contains praziquantel and metronidazole. Its only limiting factor is the ammounts of each per dosage which for severe cases of HITH you might need a stronger dosage of metro and include levamisole.

  • This is just sad.

  • they changed the water once every 6 months and he was in a 20 gallon tank! who ever had this fish seriously needed 2 give that oscar away cuss they don't know how to take care of it properly wtf kind of owner does that and lets it go untreated

  • wow you have an incredible way of pointing out the obvious. LOL

  • Sorry to hear that your fish got sick. Good to hear he's getting better. Ignore everyone who sez it was ur fault. Fish get sick, and obviousey ur a good owner cuz that Fish is getting better.

  • you mean those little bumps are hole in the head? cause i dont see any holes. and does it have ick too? it looks like it?

  • My oscar got this but he was in a 60 gallon tank, his diet was good, and i changed the water every week..

  • changing water every week and "diet was good" is probably an indication that there were still factors you were omitting that oscars require. What are the water parameters that you are working with and what exactly is his diet? A 60 gallon tank is on the minimum range of an appropriate tank for a single oscar. What other fish husbandry routines do you follow?

  • that vidio was bloody awfull who ever owend that oscar needs to be taken out the back paddock and have some sence kicked into him. i have owend over thirty oscars in the past two years and i have never seen one so ... i cant describe it. i dont know gallons but for any one else reading oscars need a min of 300L of water to grow to full size. i hope i dont come a cross a vidio like this again

  • i clean my water and gravel for my oscar once a week once i did it twice wen he had hole in the head

  • Hey genious... where did you get that this fish died?.... this is a "do not do" video. This fish is doing well after being rescued. Have a great day and work on your reading comprehension.

  • thank you for the video good sir. I hope this opens peoples eyes.

  • what an ass hole who ever had that fish is a mother fucker ......a fucking 20 g, only feeders, and water changer every 6 months like dude come on !!!!!!!!!!.....ass fucker

  • I know, I clean my Oscar's tank every week, scrub off the algea in his tank every day, and give him night crawlers, "beefheart", live freshwater fish, and fresh earthworms. Whoever owned this fish before needs to learn how to care for a fish and {quote my dad}get his head out of his ass.{unquote} SERIOUSLY.

  • did u rescue him? poor thing. The old owner of this fish must of been a fucking jackass.

  • HITH IS A BITCH.

doing that to a fish like an oscar is even worse.

my oscar was starting to get HITH

    but i saved him quickly.

it's too bad it leaves scars.

  • damn is the music necessary

  • worst than putting him in a 20g was feeding him bad...i read somewer that oscars need a new diet each week and hw can they never clean the tank in 6 months??

  • complete water changes shouldn't be made more than every six months, however partial water changes should be made frequently. i believe no more than 2/3 of the water could be changed at one time. Its harmful to your fish. 23% water change is to be done every few weeks i believe. Feeders aren't good for oscars. I read it in a book that I have about them. Try freeze dried foods or pellets. I feed mine worms, minnows, guppies, brim, spiders, roaches.. anything lol. never overfeed. Never satisfied.

  • I feed my Oscars Shrimp pellets every day and frozen bloodworm cubes every 3 days. On the bloodworm days they get 1/2 the regular amount of pellets. And once a week if they are good little fishies they get 12 rosie reds. From what I have read the hole in head is mainly cause by a constant diet of goldfish.

    Godfish carry many namy diseases.

  • Man you keep him in a tank 30 gallons too small, and feed him the worst possible diet ... fukin feeder's man common.. Get some damn flake food they arent piranha's...

  • Man, poor Oscar. Glad to know you've adopted it and helped it along. Big water changes is kinda a no no, IMO. Big water changes keeps the water conditions constantly altering making it unstable aiding bacterial and parasite infections. Change 10%-20% once a week, EVERY week. Add some aquarium salt, which is extremely helpful for healing and overall fish health. Keep the temp around 75-78 and only add treatment chemicals if conditions fail to improve. Otherwise he should heal right up.

  • hey my tiger oscar is 35cm and fat slut y does it move so slow and sometimes it lies down on the ground like its sleeping on the side..i dont feed it alot to..tell me more on oscars

  • look it up or you shouldnt own one?? i think that solves alot of problems

  • my tiger oscar is 1 and 3 mothns old i got it when it was 3.5 inches long and 1.4 inch wide now 12.1 inch long 5 inches wide it had very little of thoese holes but so i keep the water between 76-79. feed feeders every 3 weeks mostly everyday it's pills.and give it some ANTIBACTERIAL FISH REMEDY or natural fish medication to kill some bacteria that is eating on your fish's skin .don't always give feeders often.u can give krill or shrimp it gives the oscar more color in them

  • antibacterial medication isnt a cure all... hole in the head isnt a bacterial ailment. There are other most likely culprits like nematodes and other parasitic infestaions like fagellites that can cause a fish to get sick of which anti bacterial mediction is again a bad choice. Always diagnose properly before using in appropriate medication .. In this fish's case.. I used metronidazole which is an anti parasitic medication.

  • isnt this like a fungus thingy??

  • aww poor thing why do you not treat this poor animals ???, dont be stupid!! < and let the poor thing die!!

  • He is treating it???

  • poor fishy... (shakes fish at previous owners)

  • she's so sad...hope that the owner feel sensitive about it..

  • my oscar has hole in the head some1 gave her 2 us becoz they were moving.they told us it was hitting its head on the rocks but we looked it up and it was a match so now its in a 3 ft tank getting well on its way 2 health

  • well the guy under me below me said to put it at 88 isnt that to high?

  • maybe temporarily for treating diseases as heat usually help speed up the life cycle of some like ICH but in terms of constant temp... 88 is TOO HIGH.

  • You fed it feeder goldfish?!No wonder! How'd he get better anyway?

  • This fish was adopted in this state. I have fed it a variety of high quality cichlid pellets, medicated food, and some vegetables mixed with shrimp paste to help its digestive tract. He was kept in a bigger tank with large frequent water changes and dosed with metronidazole and it has helped. He is now swimming in a 7000 gallon pond with other Oscars and cichlids.

  • hey ive got my tank at around 78 if it goes any higher is that better or worse for the fish

  • 78 is good for an oscar. How much higher are you talking about?

  • 78 is good, no higher though. Mine are at 75-76. They used to be at 82 and that was way too high. Just make sure it doesn't spike or else they will become very aggresive.

  • You've done a good job on recovery. I'm sure the fish looked much worse when you took over. I've seen HITH so bad you could see the skull. If you don't have a large tank and do not wish to do water changes, Oscars are not the fish for you. 50 gallons, each Oscar, as a minimum, with large weekly water changes.

  • man.... kinda speechless here...

  • now I am stuck with watching the remaining fish suffer all because I did all my research to late, they should really warn people more cause I use to think plecos could do well with goldfish inside a 20 gallon tank but then wondered why it died so soon but now I know they need alot more than a 20 gal and that tropical cant go with goldfish.

  • I made the same mistake by buying 2 oscars(alive) 2jack dempesys(alive)2convicts(dead) 2 plecos(1alive) and a tiger oscar(dead) all when I first got my 29 gallon tank and I wish petsmart would have asked me how big of a tank I had and just told me not to buy them ......

  • Sorry man.. But did you at least now how big they could get?

  • iam glad to see ppl like you do this for animals, i hope that he/she gets well and lives a good rest of its life.

  • dude, with that music, i almost cried.
