  • Great job! One of the best that I have seen!

  • Why do we hurd a R2D2 sound at 9m38-39second?

  • Wow, nice job on Ian Rice's plan! I recognized the name first, but then the plan. I have always wondered how it would work out. Better than I thought. I was not sure about the gradients and how they would look but superb. Too bad I already finished my benchwork/track. Very nice

  • @ghfakar

the plan for my "Third Street Industrial Distict" is from Bill Baumann in Model Railroader Nov. 85

  • @westportterminal Uh, maybe so sir, but Iain Rice has the credit for the plan.I am not sure which book it came from, but he is listed as the author for that plan and it is identical. It was an older book and in my many collections of railroad plans I have a tattered copy of it. Someone at a local hobby shop gave it to me. Obviously had copied it from a page. It says at the top by Iain Rice. It is my favorite track plan of all. That to me is the best use of space>all while being prototypical.

  • @westportterminal Sorry, not enough room to type! So as I was saying, he does have the credit in what I believe was a Kalmbach publication. But now I am not saying he designed it. Maybe he just included the plan by Mr. Baumann? I must admit I am confused because even your converted caboose is on the plan I have. The gradient down from the mainline above, going under the main to an industry the way it does all are in the plan. I remember it well because I have been dreaming of it for years! :)

  • @westportterminal I see you were correct. I just found my copy of the third street industrial district by Baumann. I think it was in a book by Ian Rice, that is why I was confused over the author of the plan! Anyway, I always liked this plan. The small GE units look great! What decoder do you use in the 44 ton unit?

  • @ghfakar

    ESU Loksound micro

  • 5 star wow thx

  • Yay for street running!

That galloping bell does get annoying after a while.

LOL at the R2 noise. Although, come to think of it, it sounds somewhat like the early FREDs NS used to use...

  • Your GE 44-ton "Henry" brings all the boys to the yard and you're like it's better than yours,I can teach you but I have to charge.

  • most realistic model depiction of RR operations. No cab units hauling freight at 70 MPH.Great!

  • most realistic depiction of model RR ops I've eer seen. No cab units hau7ling freight at 70 MPH. Great!

    kl anderson

  • Excelent!!!!

  • speachless...everything about this video is top-notch (i.e. the scenery, the trains, the train handling, the handling of the camera, etc.)!!!

  • is this ho

  • One bad move, I would have set out the Lion Milk Boxcar before I pulled the two red hoppers, you wouldn't have to protect both ends of the train to make the same move.

  • If you are gonna waste my time watching this without lines on the utility pole let me know ahead of time .

  • STUPID QUESTION OF THE DAY/WEEK: Is there any process that decides which "Freight Car, Flat Car, Box Car is placed in a regular full operating train? In other words which "BOXCAR" gets to go behind the engine first, then second, third, etc? Not on a scale model RR but an actual RR line.

  • @rangeclerk depending on the destination and any stops along the way , the train will keep it,s first setoffs near the head end ,then places it,s lifts at the tail end ,but there's many variables depending on the switch list .

  • @cparl66 Thank You for the "Heads Up" and understand! Amazing how this Nation let its RR sys go to hell in a handbasket. Remember my mom & I taking the train from Montana to S Calif in the summer of 1960 (9 yrs age). My Granddad (dad) worked for Great Northen--contacted them; they informed me that when the "merged" required to destroy all the employee records before the merge..

  • What kind of camera do you use for the Cab Ride? That is nice HD quality.

  • @JB1052

I own no video camera. I use my photo camera Canon PowerShot A640

  • Nice work! I really like the elevation changes.

  • so n rotz... ! tuff tuff ... quietsch.. tuff ....... tucker tucker..... tucker.....- jetzt nochma richtig gas geben... boaaaaaah tuff tuff..... blink blink blink ... tucker......blink

ein langes "öööööööööööööööööh klingel klingel". xD

    und dafür 76000 aufrufe... ohman?

  • @ELScirocco89

Du hast doch keine Ahnung davon!

  • Thanks for the response. I do love the video and your layout. Great Job.

  • I have two Bachman 44 tonners I want to put sound in. What sound decoder will fit?

  • @lawbench191

I own no Bachman 44 ton so I can't say anything.

I've used some mold, plasticine, modelling material and made this way a dummy decoder. Then I recognized the space I have.

  • Was the "weathering" effect on the roads the rail lines travel through deliberate? Real tarmac and rail roads do this, but I personally have found a lazy way to make a road surface with rails in it look new; use plaster filler, and spread it over the rails for the tarmac. keep working the spatula until the rails just show through the surface. When it's half set, use a toothpick to gouge out the grooves for the wheels to travel in. When set, sand and paint to suit. Switch points need more work.

  • BEAUTIFUL COLOR SCHEME!

  • Great job and details, you can realyy get into the operation

  • Is this a DCC locomotive? If it is, how where you able to install it because I have a locomotive like this and can't make room got anything like that

  • @WMtrains

I wrote an article in Scale Rails June 2007

  • @westportterminal You are an asshole, and that is why I gave this thumbs down. You post this video, then have fans ask you simpple questions like, "What decoder did you use?"... and you give a run-around answer that has nothing to do with the question. You seem like an up-tight asshole, so please, do NOT post any more videos. Leave it to the guys who are going to be helpful to others.

  • @Runkleforskin hey runk did u consider since this guy westpot can't or won't answer simple questions that maybe this isn't his layout at all???.

  • @Runkleforskin People have lives, Dude. If he isn't replying, he's probably busy with real life.

  • @MMODoubter go fuck your uncle fag

  • awesome very nice

please make "night" video with the lights on =)

  • is this HO

  • excellent

  • Sounded like R2D2 there at the end. Great layout too!

  • did i hear an r2 unit at the end?

  • Very nice, very nice

  • I'm certain the guy moved when he threw the switch! Best looking model I every saw! Congrats!

  • how do you program a bachmann spectrum GE 44-tonner with digitrax.

  • The view from the cab is a very good touch and orignal!! Nice job!!

  • how did you make the streek running

  • Very Very Good Job! Thanks for Sharing!

  • The best work on YT... Why you ask? Simplicity and detail.

  • Great switching layout! Lot's of action for that crew. Track work looks fantastic.

  • my favorite of all your videos! Keep up te good work! :]

  • Impressive layout, realism and camerawork!

  • Thenews72 you should always use DCC becuase the trains sound even more relistic my SD40-2 sounded shitty then DCC came along and it sounds like the life sized SD40-2s so you should use DCC

  • Yeah but im only running 1 train, (layouts to small) with one loco, the only loco that fits my line dosn't come with sound, and DCC is expensive and hard to re-install into a DC layout.

  • Can anyone help me? im confused.

I mdeling the P&SR in my bedroom, and its going to be very small, only one train will be running at a time, but idk if ishould use dcc?

  • DCC will make running your train much more fun. There are many advantages to using DCC. You can control Lights and even control very precise speeds. With out DCC Model Railroading will become a drag and you will get tied if it right a way.

  • Yeah, but 1. i don't have the money to buy DCC. 2 i have no place to put a central traffic system, and 3, im running a bachmann 44 toner @ the most. what i've been doing is using the Athearn controller for the past 2 years with Bachmann E-Z track. i understand all the hype and popularity about DCC. I just don't really need it. my layout is to small to have more than 1 operating crew, its to small to have more that 1 locomotive, and i (at this time) only have one locomotive

  • Nice "cab ride" shots! You have an excellent layout! 2:30, how did the coupler move like that? The street running part is very interesting. DCC and sound? Thanx fur sharin'! 5 thumbs up!

  • There's a magnet under the ties. I'Ve marked these magnet places with a tie next to the track.

BTW, this magnet is movable, I can move it to the next track. :-)

  • Excellent detail and very smooth operation. Bravo !!!

  • Excellent. It must be a pain to clean the track that are in the streets :-)

  • not more than other tracks. Clean the rails at a turnout next to a guard rail. :-)

  • That is a great layout!

  • Well-done! Fantastic vid and even better layout! Congrats!

  • Awesome layout! I saw it in Model Railroader. I like how you have street running.

  • How did you get the camera on the train

  • on a flatcar. you can see a pic at my website, at the video site.

  • I love the little "TOOT"!

  • Nice Job. I saw your railroad photos in ModelRailroader Mag.

  • That dinging sound is realy anoying what is it?

  • Comment removed

  • It is either the warning bell on the engine when running streets or something loose in an empty head.

  • its a bell.

  • This layout is AMAZING!

  • Hey, i saw this in the June issue of Model railroader!

  • y is there train and tack on the streets?

  • its street running. they run track mainly through industrial areas where it is nessasary to get to a building/industry.

  • its a 44 ton switcher not a formula 1 car!

  • good 1

  • These are models not toys, there not deisgned to be raced around like toy cars. Remember HO is 1:87 scale so for each real MPH it travels its really doing 87MPH scale so this is about 15mph which is perfect for street running

  • ya, if you paid over 200$ for a train you would not want to race it around and break it.

  • Hi, i was just asking what is the stuff under the railway track, and do you kow if the union pacific ho scaled train have a horn or light. Great video 5/5 :) please reply asap

  • the stuff under the track is ballest. in reality it supports the track and provides drainage. as for your UP question nobody can awnser. UP is a railroad and there are 100's of 1000's of models out there.

  • did anybody else hear r2-d2 at 9:38

  • Yes--i heard it--guess he was driving the switcher--l-o-l

  • is there like a automatic uncoupling track for HO scale like O gauge or do u have to manualy uncoulpe the cars?

  • I've installed a few Kadee magnets, some are moveable! This way you prevent unwanted uncoupling.

And I use bamboe sticks, those wooden types.

  • Why is R2D2 Noises in there???

  • The friend who did the programming is a Star Wars fan.

  • Ohh haha Im glad to see people adding multiple hobbies together

  • That was a great touch!!! It really gives Henry some character!

  • Great Layout! The street running is pretty cool!

  • Very well done.

  • Excellent video!

    Any signals?

Love your camcorder mounted on the train, best!

What a neat layout, especially the track switches in pavement and light shinning on rails.

Did they ever move cars with engine in middle?

Or was there always a person on the leading end?

    Thank you.

    Bravo!

  • Awsome layout and a cool locomotive too.

I have seen one of your other videos with a smaller locomotive and that vid was cool to.

Where did you get that light thats on the top?

  • At my homepage I've a How To for beacon lights.

  • Fascinating!

Prototype speed. Believable curving and three-dimensional urban trackage like that at so many older industrial locations in the U.S.

Many interesting scenic details like the track at the side of the street, not the obvious middle, under the main line overpass. Everytime I see this video, I find something new.

  • Cool

  • it has the sound of an emd 567c?

  • Great layout! Just make sure to put wire or thread on the telephone poles- it's detail is a lot more than what most people think. Oh, by the way- great little switcher you got there! Make more videos- I absolutely love the layout's detail and those "smooth as silk" locomotives!

  • Outstanding! Get switching. Your layout is beautiful. Would you share your Layout Plan with us?

    Thanks

  • You can see the layout plan at my homepage.

  • WOW the most amazing layout i have ever seen

  • wheres your layout based on

  • only one word, perfect

  • Great job and thanks for posting. I was so happy to see this industrial switcher at work. Who makes it? Who's sound is it?

Is the sound system on board the loco?.

  • It's an ESU Loksound decoder.

I wrote an article in the NMRA Scale Rails June 07.

  • Thank you, I will try to find the article at the library. Not sure if they will have this article. Is it available on line somewhere? I think that you did a great job and I would love to have a layout like this. I will be building idustrial / urban layout in the near future. Have a great day. Please post more industrial movements.

  • nice but i hate that bell

  • First one of your vids I ever veiwed, and is still my favorite!

  • Beautiful layout, and you've provided me with plenty of inspiration for my own model railroad project. Thank you.

  • The street scene is phenomenal. The street looks very realistic and nicely faded. What material and colors did you use to make your streets? I'm cureently building a layout and am reading up on options.

  • Beautifully done. Trackwork and scenery is impressive. Main line looks like Code 83, with the sidings/yard trackage Code 70? BTW: Are you a member of the Kalmbach Model Railroader Forum? If not, please join! Good group of modelers onboard that would enjoy reading about your layout and seeing photos of your layout work.

  • I love the way that the tracks look right in the beginning of the vid...nice vid!!!

  • i like the colors scheme

  • Beautiful Layout! Perfect looking switching. We're looking at a master's work here!

  • Very cool video.I'm a new member to youtube. The scenery looks great.I have a few ideas for my next layout. From yours.I want a frelanced shortline for my railroad. Not really into prototype railroading.Hope you respond back.

  • This has to be one of the better HO switching layouts on you tube. Great Job.

  • what scale is this?

  • Scale is H0. That's the problem with a camera at a flat car. :-)

  • ho?!?!?! it looks like o!!!!!

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the cut to the cab view! Nice touch.

How on Earth did you fit a sound unit in that thing??

  • I wrote an article in the NMRA Scale Rails June 07.

  • What did you use for the street material, and how did you do the tracks ins the street, im trying to do that, its a pain!

  • this must be the best one ive seen!

  • nice job, i dont mean to be a stick in the mud, but i think it should go faster, and u got any tips for me layout? i will make a vid for u

  • awsome layout, especially the street running 5/5 stars and a fave well done!

  • Best layout I ever saw, especially the rails on the street; any advice on how to create the track on road part?

  • best HO switching video on YouTube

  • Nice, I love the R2D2 horn! Now If only I can get our full size 44toner to do that! shes got one of thise air whistles on her.

  • LOL i love it, fantastic, i love you you put r2 d2 into the whistle , great layout, i think ive seen part of this track plan, in 28 top nothc tracks plans, kalmbach

  • amazing, but the whole procedure of moving 4 trucks takes 9 minutes ?

  • Excellent job on the layout. I love the detail you included, and the street running is really neat.

  • SICK good job man

  • THAT IS A SWITCHER! GO GE!

  • Superb!

  • very nice video and a nice looking layout. would you happen to have a track plan of the layout?

  • I thought my swtiching vids were pretty good... looks like I have room to improve! Great vid!

  • MAGNIFIQUE !!!!!! j'adore le GE44 !! One word : BRAVO !!

  • The in-cab video, why is the focal length so short?

  • This is not a video camera.

  • This is one of the best model train vids I have EVER seen!!! Great video, and keep up the great work!!!

  • I would much rather have a SD70M-2 switching lol

  • Still amazed that you managed to soundchip a 44-tonner and get a DW groundframe working.

    Jon

  • Hehe, that lil thing was featured in last months NMRA Scale Rails! Way to go man!
