i really like the message - that at the end of the day, kinship triumphs over everything, even if the mother is unpleasant to be with.
but it's very easy to blur the line between kinship and the feeling of guilt or owing something.
i didn't like the whole flashback sequence because of that, and also it seemed incongruent for the mother to be such an unpleasant character in the present. some have said it's alzheimer's but maybe its cos of my limited life experience, but just doesn't work for me
I have a less impressive interpretation of the story. Why did the grandma behave in this way? It is because the uncle "abandoned" his mum and dad! It is because they were living apart beforehand that the grandma have to move in after the grandpa is dead. Obviously the uncle dad is being filial, but too late.. not a very good example..
@paigia or maybe coz the grandma don't want to stay with the children whilst the grandpa is around? i know some grandma's very stubborn one. but i like this coz it's real. Reminds me of my very stubborn grandma. Filial piety is not just because you love your parent so you do. sometimes, even if the parents are difficult, filial piety is loving them regardless. :D
I WANT THE SONG!!!!!
