This was the only piece by John Williams they used in SR. The rest of the score was by John Ottman (including stuff he made just playing off this theme) so his name got slapped onto the soundtrack list. But they always credited John Williams with this piece.

Honestly I love John Williams but this version sounds much better then the original. The original from the 70s sounds very cheesy now. This version has a much crisper, cleaner, stronger sound and is more modern and rousing for Superman.

I hope to god if they reboot the franchise they keep this theme. I can't imagine Superman with any other score. John Williams made Superman his with this score.

This is the original. I re-record and a re-write are two different things.  This is exactly the version john williams wrote in 78 (his name is even credited in superman returns), just re-recorded in 2006 for the first time in 28 years, hence the crispness :)

Yea I know it's the same score written-wise but I mean the sound of it. When you hear the "original" the sound is very cheesy and at a faster pace by todays standards in my opinion. This one sounds slower and more meaningful.

@unknown1771 Cheesy!?! Oh well you entitled to that opinion. I always felt that every single adaptation of Williams main title theme was at best inferior. The high notes for the trumpets always impressed as a kid up until now. All other re-recordings always fail to emulate that effect.

It's a great score, one of the very best in film history.

But Ottman's version is lacking something. That special magical quality of the original. It's a copy here, dots on a page. Reproduced by a competent conductor, yes, but lacking compared to the original.
