It may not be the busiest now, but with the new Berlin airport opening soon, they certainly planned for a future increase in train and passenger flow.
Berlin is the pet friendliest place in Germany! There is a famous german popsong which says "everyone (in Berlin) got a dog but nobody to talk to..."There is a huge Problem with Dog poo on public places and parks in Berlin, which is also mentioned in this very song.
I went on interrail around europe and Berlins station was the absolute best one. Loved it. Sadly I had no money to visit Berlin, it was just my transfer. But it made me want to see more of Germany. :)
Um, thats just because its eastern germany - noone ever bothers to visit the west :( So the picture most of our visitors get here is the one from the poorest land in germany... I'am not joking here Berlin has a "per head debt" of 16.783 € ...
This is now Europe's biggest train station in size. It's amazing. I like the design and the double set of rail tracks which cross in separate levels. It's my understanding this is quite unique in the world. However, I don't think it's Europe's busiest. I don't even think it's among Europe's 3 busiest in traffic, passengers or trains.
That place is IMPRESSIVE. Its like a massive shopping centre with a train station in one, great fun.

Just ask, unfortenately most of the employees learned russian at school, english is hardly understandable.

I agree!
I spoke to several workers there and they all spoke more than perfect English...
And so did all the people around the city, btw!

I was so impressed with hauptbahnhof made of steel, concrete and glass on my first ever visit to Berlin a month ago.
Finally, I understand the term "german efficency" as the structure allows space for thousands of people at the same time.

English is hardly understandable there? Did you mean hardly understood (by others)?

@sanso1: Berlin's a great city with debt or without. Who cares? I any respect better than boring places like Baden-Wurttemberg...
