I have this for the iPhone 4 and i take my phone fully charged to the course and it only gets down to like 40% or maybe a little more. The 3GS isn't that great with battery.
Still worth getting the app no matter what phone you have
i have this and its class. one great feature is that when you play with friends and take their score down, at the end of the round it automatically fires out the scorecards to their email addresses, as long as they have given it to you when they add them as a player. all their info is then stored for next time you play. i can get round without needing back up battery but i turn the brightness down.
One awesome feature you didn't mention....yes it keeps your stats, however, you can also logon to the website and see your running handicap. You can also play with the stableford scoring system, and.....you can also keep track your buddies scores..just not their total puts. I have it for my old 3G, looking to swipe my wife's old 3Gs to reload, or buy again for my Droid...awesome app.
great vid dude, the demo vid that comes with it is kinda confusing...was using just the scorecard/stats feature with the lite version for the past couple of weeks.. purchased the GPS Version today & used it for the first time, was very impressed! you're video is a big help in finding and utilising its features, thankyou
Great review.... I have been using this app for about 6 months and your demo is spot on. I've found that if you put the phone on standby (re sync is quick) at those times you don't need it like after your approach till you next tee off you'll be lucky to use more than 50% power over a round. Lastly the stats I now have after almost 40 rounds is priceless. This app is # 1
quick question.... so there is no way to know what you have exactly to the flag? it tells you the front and back and you have to do the math as to what it is exactly to the flag right? THANKS
@pezeshkian It doesn't give you the EXACT distance to the flag location. However, there are several ways to calculate this. One way I do it is use the Aerial view and target where the flag is located on the green relative to my location in the fairway (or rough in most cases). Or calculate based on the pin location and where the app is giving you front, middle, and back distances.
I had the Callaway UPro and loved it. But during a recent residential move it was lost, $250 gone. Just purchased a HTC EVO and luckily came across your GolfShot GPS review. Was going to buy another Upro but not now. This "app" has so many more advantages other than just the $29 fee. First I can use my touch screen feature and this is great to accurately get layup distances. And since I can use it on my EVO a much larger screen. This combination along with Stat Tracking and cannot be beatThankU

I have lite version of this and thinking of paying the $30 and getting full version.
Only thing I don't understand is why you select your club for your 1st shot. I can't see any stats or advisement later on on what club to use. In the full version is there more info on club selection based on previous shots. Using the lite the only thing that seems to having anything to do with the club is u telling it what you teed off with.
@Wattsy069 It's just a feature to let you track your stats. For me I like it because if I miss or hit the fairway, I can look back to see what club I used off the tee.
You may want to get your subscription back. Seems Shotzoom Software, LLC and Golfshot, LLC are being sued by GolfLogix for serious patent and intellectual property infringement. These two ripoff companies may soon be toast.

@freakmastermcgee well, the thing is, the application is on your phone, the gps is independant of the application so that doesnt get dictated by the application/shotzoom. so all that would really mean is if you do buy it and shotzoom/golfshot go bust, you dont get updates. i dont think thats hugely impactful. the courses may rotate the flags on the greens once in a while but i'm not seeing the issue. and a 3rd party may do updates sorta open source.
Nice Vid, and good review. I have just purcahsed this app and looks just the job. I was just going to ask. Does this give you exact yard to the pin? or is it just the front and back of the green? cant wait to use it. thanks
version 1.5 has a power saver mode i used it and you dont need any extra battery besides how the hell are you gonna have a backup battery on iphone lol
but yeah the new version is much better for that reason
@OwzatOllie I have the Ipod Touch, you might want to try their free score card, GolfShot, I have been using it for the past week, and it works very well. The only thing, is you need to load the course where there is WiFi start the game, and then put it on sleep mode, when you get to the course, juse wake it up and start keeping track of your score and the free app also gives you the stats
if its +/- 25 yards... that would be about +/- 3 clubs. im going to get the app. i really like the aerial view. that would be very useful and quite accurate
Hi there, just out of interest, I play golf in the UK, I was just wandering what iPhone you used this on and whether or not you think the 3gs battery will last longer as it supposedly has a longer lasting battery.
Sweet review man, I got a chance to play with a guy today who had it. It was definitely spot on! I have also heard that the GPS in the iphone is stronger than the ones in the driving units (i.e. TomTom). I am soooooo sold on this app.
I purchased the golf shot and there are 2 problems, one the iPhone battery wears out by the 13th hole (solved by purchasing a battery pack) and it does not give lay up distances to hazards other than bunkers (ie: ravines, water)
I agree about the battery. But it's not the App's fault, its really the GPS being active all the time that eats up the iPhones battery. Good call on the battery pack, I did the same.
As for the lay up distances... did you try the aerial view to pin point your locations as it relates to those hazards?
Tim - FANTASTIC review!!! I'm planning to get an iPhone at the end of this month and this is an app I've been thinking about. Question, can you think of any 3rd party accessory or homemade gadget that would allow the iPhone to clip onto your golf bag so that you don't stand the chance of leaving it somewhere during your round?
I'm not sure of any accessories of the top. But I do know there are cases that have little ring clips on them. I'm sure you can fix it up to do what your asking.
How accurate is the app is it very accurate??

@TimsTechBlog So in the full version it does give you info on past clubs used?
The Lite version as far as I can tell gives nothing. You select the club but no info anywhere else uses this.
So in the fairways Hit Missed it gives info on the club you used?
Also mate top Vid hey. Awesome work.

@Wattsy069 I just looked. It does not give you past info on the clubs used. My first thought was incorrect. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Well since the touch doesn't have a GPS chip inside... this app will not work on the touch. At least the GPS functionality of it.
