Vinny I understand that you no longer wish to compete in robot competitions but there is a big robot event in the US called Robogames and it would mean the world to me if you were to enter either Razer or Warhead. Please think about it ok? Thanks
I remember visiting Legoland when I was 18, and Razer was there with Mute. I think it was early March 2004. It was so amazing for me to actually stroke the top of Razer's beak. Getting autographs from Simon and Philippa was brilliant as well. I'm guessing you yourself had another commitment that day so you couldn't be there.
As someone who was involved with the development of Razer and Warhead, who do you think would win if these two ever fought each other?
@razer259 That's a question that many people have asked. Warhead could certainly disable Razer with one hit. However, as Razer proved over many years, it is one of the most agile machines ever built. If it got the beak in anywhere behind Warhead's disc, it could easily tear through it.
@Vinsteroid I think its easy to answer: Whichever robot has the original team driving it.
If Razer fought Warhead, team razer could only drive one of them and probably would have to hand the other over to another roboteer less experienced with how it handles, etc.
So yeah, erm...in the end, Team Razer would be the big loser, no matter which bot won, both would probably be wrecked :-p
Just wanted to say, other kids had pictures of cars on their walls or whatever, I had pictures of Razer. Pretty much the coolest thing I had ever seen, or could ever imagine. So thanks, very much, for the part you played in my childhood :)
@RazerTheTechDragon Ian and Simon might, but I wouldn't myself. I've happy with my 15 minutes of fame, and these days I'm having too much fun with my natural history photography to spare the time!
@Vinsteroid i take any robot down who stands in my will regret it and uh sorry about razer and pussycat battle i know youve gotten over it but i wont i shall avenge my favrouite robot cause making my own robot i took you advise and im starting slow with a little tiny robot thanks
One more thing, do you still look back on the Robot Wars and Battlebots days or Warhead and Razer? I bet there's a lot of memories in those years... Razer sure made my childhood Sunday nights watching Razer on the BBC awesome. And for that, I thank you. :D
I'd just like to say that Razer and Warhead are two amazing machines. Both of them were rare combinations of elegance and weaponary. This was never really achieved in Robot Wars by any other team. For example, in Battlebots, Snake looked amazing, but was awful in the arena. But by contrast, Dominator 2 in Robot Wars, as an example, was a great robot, but it didn't have the looks. Whereas both Warhead and Razer looked sleek. I also love how you guys seemed to use weight on excessive srimechs. lol
Before I start I want to say how great your two robots were. You are a genius and in my opinion the best combat robot maker of all time and how glad I am to have say i've met you and your brilliant machine(even though you probally don't remember me in the slightest, I was only a kid at the time and I think it was at a qualifiers and me and my father saw you loading Razer into your car). My question is simple and that is where did the idea for Razer come from?
Warhead and Razer were simply amazing examples of functional and beautiful engineering and mechanics. Your robots were one of the main reasons i became interested in working with designing robotics, and now, 6 years later, im studying CAD at university (bournemouth actually!) hoping to work in CAD and engineering when i graduate. Thank you for the inspiring robots ... and also thanks for many hours of great TV :)
Both Razer and Warhead are a work of art, beautiful machines with amzing power. The effort put into the design is fantastic and are a real inspiration. Hated it back when pussycat destoryed Razer while it was dead, really was a heartfelt moment.
I love this machine so much, if Razer was half bird, half reptile, this one was half scorpion, half reptile. While I wasn't to keen on Razer, I have to admit they're both beautiful machines. Nice work.
Also one thing i've been curious about is the Extreme Warriors War of Independence where Tornado fought you with the cage for the first time. I've heard different versions of this story, some involving you ripping out Tornado's weapon motor and the judges mistaking it for one of Razer's wheels. I was wondering if you could say what exactly happened? Would be interesting to add to the wiki.
@TheLegacyofHitchcock What you have described pretty much sums it us. We were pushed around a fair bit but damaged the frame and ripped the motor clean off the weapon. Spoke with Noel Sharkey afterwards about how we thought we'd caused significant damage. His reply was 'well it was evened up as they took your wheel off'. When we pointed out we had all our wheels intact he admitted they'd got it wrong. Too late to reverse the decision by then.
Warhead was awesome. Vinnie do you remember if anything was wrong during it's fight with Overkill? It looked a bit more sluggish there and the disc didn't seem to be working properly.
@TheLegacyofHitchcock Had probs in the previous fight against Matador. Only had 2 hours to make repairs which we only just managed. Lost the motor powering the disc v.early on in the fight.
@Vinsteroid Hey Vinnie. just curious as to how much the disc itself weighs, as it seems that, from this and pretty much every Batllebots vid i've watched of Warhead, it generates quite a lot of gyroscopic force, hence why Warhead flails with the disc running at high speed.
@turtleman1208 From what I recall (been retired from it all for nearly 8 years) the disc is around 19kg so almost 1/5th of the total weight. The disc tilts forwards using hydraulics, and it's in the lowered position that the machine starts doing its whirling dervish thing. Although this makes it a little harder to control, I think you'll agree it does make the whole machine look incredibly alive! :)
Is Warhead or Razer still fights today or have they been retired

how long and how much money does it take to build a battlebot if ur just a begginer like to build an antweight or something
Geekyguy1228 3 months ago
@Geekyguy1228 it depends, an antweight can take a weekend and about £150 bigger robots take longer
