@arobekie The proper definition of Skeptic is someone who looks at the evidence, and looks to the top scientists, to help form their opinion, always keeping an open mind. In contrast there are deniers, like global warming deniers, and true believers, like ufo true believers. Obviously we can't prove that there are no ufos, but I have not seen any hard evidence, and all the scientists that I respect the most think that the whole thing is very dubious.

The 3 most cmn arguments here (I'm an agnostic myself not necessarily a believer) do not hold up very well.

1) lots of cranks and false sightings make it a very easy secret to keep. So sightings and disclosures can just keep being denied forever absent government-disclosure or an alien body. 2) We cannot really evaluate the "odds" that aliens exist or that technology we don't understand would allow them to travel great distances. 3) What more interesting thing to visit in the universe? the distance problem is not a real problem yet, since we don't have enough knowledge in physics and the universe' map to say something about it, I mean we are a civilization that only woke up in the last century!

This ufo phenomenon has always existed since million of years, and humans have always been just wondering, dreaming about them, denying them and sometimes investigating in vain.

What if governments know nothing about ufo's, and only fake secrecy as a form of smoke screen towards other countries that might have more infos about the subject. This is what I believe and only this hypothesis can destroy Mr. Friedman's argument, and all others.

If there's one person who can display the logical, reasonable evidence for UFOs, it's Stanton Friedman, and believe it, there are UFOs out there, the term was made for a reason.

UFO does not necessarily mean spacecraft or aliens. At one point the B-2 Bomber was reported as a UFO and many believed it was an alien spacecraft.

That doesn't make sense because it was revealed to the public prior to its first flight. maybe the f117, but even then it so loud you'd have to have a mental or sensory disability to think that its not a jet, because if you're close enough to see it would be loud. but since they flew it exclusively at night you'd only hear it and never see it

You can't think of travel in the sense what we travel (fuel, conventional speeds/light speed) it is much beyond that. They are not as primitive as we are. Even Stanton talking about 'our neighborhood' does not matter when you are talking about the their technology.

Their travel is near instantanious at any distance. We know and understand less than 1% of the possibilities that exist when it comes to propulsion. (the average public, that is) The folks at Lockheed, ect, know more...

He says "pilots are trained observers" -- Um, no, they are not. They are trained to recognize immediate threats to their aircraft and other known aircraft. If anything, they are 'hypersensitive' to anything that even resembles a possible object in relation to their plane. LOTS of things become "UFOs" under those circumstances.

Stanton Friedman is so credible...he is one of the very few who actually investigates as much as he can to come to a logical and coherent conclusion. Definitely a hero of the UFO community. His books are wonderful. I highly suggest you read them. =)

He is saying why talk about traveling between galaxies when you have several star in the local area they could be coming from. Though they would take thousands of years at conventional speeds (say as fast as voyager 2) at relativistic speeds in would be within a lifetime due to time dialation or less if they have some fancy FLT drive.
