@yokeelee The Pearsons grew up in East London, a time when Britain only had 3 channels which hardly showed black people and there was no MTV. Although they may have known about Janet as MJ's sister) then I doubt they ever saw her on British TV. Denise says in one interview that she and her sisters were big fans on Dynasty in the early 80s and that was why they wore heavy make-up and dressed the way they did. This influence can be clearly seen in their RSVP video.
@yokeelee IMO the only thing 5 Star had in common with the Jacksons is that they were 5 young black talented siblings. Unlike the J5, 5 Star didn't have a massive music machine behind them ala Motown, it was a family affair. The 1st single was released in 1983 "Problematic"..IDKY it took so long..but it is FACT. You say...they had already reached Megastar stautus...? They didn't even have a #1 hit yet. In 1986 single "Rain or Shine" only hit #2 in UK. That album "Silk & Steel" was the 1st #1 album that year.

Pop music is the most profitable type of music and it was what help launch all of the greats like The Beatles, Elvis, MJ, Madonna, etc. Even Country music stars go Pop...b/c of it's so easy to produce....although most last longer than others...for sheer originality and overall appeal to the public. Plus it was now heavy r&b which doesn't sell well in the UK. I didn't try & sneak anything in, just told you some facts. Doris choreographed all of the famous 5 stars videos where you are seeing similarities on her own before Paula did Janet's. Paula was dating (actually having an affair..lol) with Jackie Jackson during the early 80's..perhaps around 1983-84 and MJ loved her dance routines SHE choreographed for the L.A. Laker girls. Then she did all of the dance routines for the Jacksons VICTORY Tour in 84 and was hired by Joe Jackson to do JJ's Control album vids. I really doubt that Doris was all original in her "Dance Routines" from 83-89.

Whatever Paula was doing in the States had no impact on what was going on in the Pearson's living room in the early 80s where Doris choreographed their dance steps. If you know anything about the British media you would know that their tabloids are the most irreverent of them all who will build a star up only to tear them down. They did it with 5 star when they interviewed journalists posing as bailiffs outside their £million mansion.

It's one of the strangest things that whenever British people sing pop songs they automatically sound American, saying "kant" instead of "karnt" for example for "can't" and also the accent changes as well. It's not conscious, just an automatic thing that happens. Listen to Don't You Want Me by the Human League, where Phil Oakey says "kant" in the bridge which he would never say when speaking.

@yokeelee The Pearsons grew up in East London, a time when Britain only had 3 channels which hardly showed black people and there was no MTV. Although they may have known about Janet as MJ's sister) then I doubt they ever saw her on British TV. Denise says in one interview that she and her sisters were big fans on Dynasty in the early 80s and that was why they wore heavy make-up and dressed the way they did. This influence can be clearly seen in their RSVP video.

No doubt Janet is talented, after all she has been able to make use of the limited skills she has & family name to elevate her career which is more than can be said for her other siblings. However, to label someone like Denise who is talented in her own right as a mimic of Janet is an insult and that is what you started. I don't deny the influence of MJ but even he was influenced but no one said he 'mimicked'.

For your info, the original group consisted of the 3 girls but Mum wanted the boys in & so they became 5. I am sure if they had remained 3, people like you would have come in here saying that they were 'mimicking' the Pointer sisters or something because that is how your thought process works.

@Picture111 Oh and btw...your "Facts" are wrong..Five Star FORMED the group in 1983..then released their debut album in 1985 "Luxury of Life". The 1st single was released in 1983 "Problematic"..IDKY it took so long..but it is FACT. You say...they had already reached Megastar stautus...? They didn't even have a #1 hit yet. In 1986 single "Rain or Shine" only hit #2 in UK. That album "Silk & Steel" was the 1st #1 album that year.

@yokeelee Yes, in 1987 5 Star had already attained megastar status in the UK. Anyone living the UK during that time will tell you that these kids were EVERYWHERE! 16 yo Denise was nominated for a grammy, their no.1 album in 1986 sent them straight into the record books as the youngest family act to do so on a national POP chart. They had sold out national tours, were in every teen mag, cartoon strips in major newspapers, on most TV shows etc plus they won the Best British group award in '86.

@Picture111 Ahh...so Five Star was indeed OVER EXPOSED by 1988/89 then. They were burned out and it such a shame..they had talent..but they had that "Jacksons' stigma following them. UK fans left them high and dry after the 80s. Oh and btw..Paula would not ever have to "BITE" off some kids from the UK. Paula Abdul was already an established Professional Choreographer by mid 80's. Lmbo...I must admit..you tried to sneak that one in at the end of your comment. This was interesting.

@yokeelee 5 star were mismanaged by their Dad. i.e.he never allowed Denise to sing live during TV performances & insisted on them wearing those silly costumes & those dance routines even for slow songs. They also should not have isolated their fans in the UK for the US as most of their albums were never released in the UK. 5 star also allowed a TV crew into their posh £million home where they showed off their expensive sports cars. The media got jealous & things went downhill from there.

@yokeelee If Buster wanted to make his kids into the Jacksons he would have allowed Denise to go solo or allowed the kids to take part in other projects. They had a Disney show offer, parts in movies etc.Denise was approached to do collabos but he turned them all down something the Jacksons would not have done. I disagree with your claim about Janet being a talented entertainer & I have already explained why.

Pop music is the most profitable type of music and it was what help launch all of the greats like The Beatles, Elvis, MJ, Madonna, etc. Even Country music stars go Pop...b/c of it's so easy to produce....although most last longer than others...for sheer originality and overall appeal to the public. I know a lot about other Pop artist other than Jacksons...so please get over it.

@yokeelee cont. As said, after the move to the US, their albums were never released in the UK & when they tried to come back people had moved on. Plus it was now heavy r&b which doesn't sell well in the UK. I didn't try & sneak anything in, just told you some facts. Doris choreographed all of the famous 5 stars videos where you are seeing similarities on her own before Paula did Janet's. I don't care if she was a professional, if her work came out after then she BIT from a UK teenager!lol

Paula was dating (actually having an affair..lol) with Jackie Jackson during the early 80's..perhaps around 1983-84 and MJ loved her dance routines SHE choreographed for the L.A. Laker girls. Then she did all of the dance routines for the Jacksons VICTORY Tour in 84 and was hired by Joe Jackson to do JJ's Control album vids. I really doubt that Doris was all original in her "Dance Routines" from 83-89.

Whatever Paula was doing in the States had no impact on what was going on in the Pearson's living room in the early 80s where Doris choreographed their dance steps. If you know anything about the British media you would know that their tabloids are the most irreverent of them all who will build a star up only to tear them down. They did it with 5 star when they interviewed journalists posing as bailiffs outside their £million mansion.

It's one of the strangest things that whenever British people sing pop songs they automatically sound American, saying "kant" instead of "karnt" for example for "can't" and also the accent changes as well. It's not conscious, just an automatic thing that happens. Listen to Don't You Want Me by the Human League, where Phil Oakey says "kant" in the bridge which he would never say when speaking.
