  • Anyone else come here expecting to learn 44 things about SU carbs? :)

  • I have a Austin 11/55 that I bought about 2 months ago. this video is of great help.

could you please do one on tuning a SU HS2 as well.

  • What oil do you use in the damper? The ATF-oil or just motor-oil?

  • @rmejpmgb none :-P ATF works very good though, you might try a few thin oils and use the oil you & your engine feels happiest with.

  • @rmejpmgb ATF

  • Thank you very much, my mate has a old triumph he's demolition derbying tomorrow and the engines flooding badly, your vid helped very much.

  • Great Video, Thanks for explaining the Engeneering behind the My SU Carbs

  • Ive always wandered, are you supposed to run the car like that from cold? Just driving around with the choke out. I know people 'can' do it, but is it recommended? Are you meant to let the car warm up and then drive on, or can you just drive off once its started with the choke out?

  • can anyone help?

I had an old mini that ran on a carb n i was always told to start the car from cold with the choke out and gradually push it back in, then once the engine is warm THEN you set. Now my old minis fuelling n carb set up was preety buggered.

BUT some people have been telling me that they start there minis as normal, but dont sit there lettin it warm up, they just drive on with the choke out, then afta a wile push it all the way in. is there any right or wrong way about it???

  • your have to wait untill it warms up, it gets the oil throught the engine

  • are those expensive? where can i buy some for my 74 datsun 620 L18?

  • Im working with Hydrogen generator and my goal is to make it work with my 1275cc engine, SU2 carbs, any recommendation where i can connect the hydrogen outlet to get the most of my generator, please post me

  • Hi John,

    Greetings from Ireland. Great clips.

    Question:

If the SU's rely so much on suction for their means of operation isn't it surprising that there is not a seal between the carb body and the suction chamber. I would have thought that a metal to metal mating surface no matter how much you tightened the screws would still allow a small amount of air to leak in which would mess up the operation of the SU.

I cant send you over work but i attach some Irish luck with this email !!

    Cormac
