@USMC1440 its amazing how on one post you are a Drill instructor at MCRD PI and the all of a sudden you are moving to alaska to pan gold on your grandpas gold mine lol at the mere age of 22? while most Drill instructors go to the Drill field after completing their first tour as a Marine and acheiving at least SGT. which would put them around 22 yrs old at the earliest. if they had their shit locked and cocked. Something does not add up son.
I would have to say that she is the slowest panner that I have ever seen. Girl. If your not salting your pan for the camera. I would kick er in second gear and do some speed panning. Whatever you make from panning. Buy a sluice box. Honestly. Stevie Wonder can retrieve Gold faster than you.

i never swirl unless im washing my black sands down to see the gold in my pan i usually use the side to side method and i rake my fingers thru my material to settle the heavies on the bottom. I have used a safety pan and to tell youthe truth i have only lost 1 small piece of gold out of over a thousand pans the only time i bother with a safety pan is when i have used a sluice box.however you pan if your getting gold your doin something right. youtube has plenty of panning demos.

Im selling a plan to build a automatic gold pan that you can work tons of gravel in a hour You can work all day and at the end of the day collect your gold and black sand which takes a minute. the cost of the parts are from 0 to 50 dollars you need a small generator to run it like a 1 thousand watt honda.you can use 1 or 2 of these machines depends on how fast you can shovel. if your looking for a better way $29.95 for the plans this will make you smile.
Too much swirl, When finishing a pan you need more back and forth to keep the heavies in the bottom corner of the pan. A swirl will tear the flakes out of the corner and spread them over the top of the dirt.

Too much swirl, When finishing a pan you need more back and forth to keep the heavies in the bottom corner of the pan. A swirl will tear the flakes out of the corner and spread them over the top of the dirt.
