  • Joanna, you're awsome!

  • intellectual snobbery at its best. you go Joanna.

  • I just have to see it from reeeeeeeeeeaaaaallly far away.

  • thats so random I have the same fascination with almost the same thing basically what she's saying is the rules of society changes and manipulates are true destination and what we need as humans is covered up by what we are told we need well done jo jo!

  • What myth is she talking about?

  • @taylorthewaylor atlantis sounds quite similar to the theme she talks about, particular the city in the sea, whose flooding and submergence was a form of resolve due to a rise in decadence (corruption). funny that she says "instinctive" knowledge. how many reading this have dreampt of drowning or being under water? (i never drowned in a dream, cuz i could always breath in water, but i could never see through the water)

  • the texas chainsaw massacre in being filmed in the next room

  • Can't help lulzing through the video now =D

  • @skanky87 omfg took the words rite outta my mouth like seriously who cares about the family being slaughtered next door get on with the interview lmaoo

  • I love the quality of this recording. The light, is beautiful, and of course I have had a passion for story of Ys. I go to the Baie de Trépassés~ Also the song of course!!

  • i hate when people start youtube fights..

  • what song is that at the beginning?

  • "Monkey & Bear"

  • thanks

  • Monkey and Bear

  • thanks?

  • Too bad you're a fucking creep and she wouldn't give you the time of day because you are more disrespectful than honorable towards her. "I want to fuck her face off". You're such a sad, disgusting loser.

  • Lol. Yeah. Being a nice guy really screwed me over. What with my beautiful wife and son and all. Yeah. That's the definition of a faggot; someone who engages in hetero-sexual relationships. Being honorable helps me out with what? Being a decent human being? Because if that's what you mean, then yes, I do believe it will help me out, and in that case, you're wrong.

I can't believe you don't read your comment back and go,"fuck, I am retarded".

Say it if you want some sincerity from yourself.

  • You actually bothered responding to my comment? I didn't think you'd be that desperate for someone to talk to.

It must be tough to be a foul mouthed, lonely troll, so you're welcome, I guess.

Great rebuttal. It's real convincing. With your pop culture reference, and the pedo-preist example, how could I argue?

You do realize, though, that you're the kind of person that will say, "I want to fuck her face off".

Whether you want to admit it or not, you're the one with social issues. Get a real life

  • For fuck's sake. Are you 15?

I haven't dealt with this kind of childish idiocy in years. Congratulations. You're a smart ass.

It's nice you like to piss people off. Other people have better things to do, so, I'm going to leave that as your lame little niche to fill.

I know you will reply with some insult so that you can feel like you've won your stupid, boring little game, but after that, please stop. I'm sorry I said a thing, because you are just too arrogantly unitlligent to argue with.

  • GAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

    lol

    I'm done.

  • I was done a week ago.

    Seriously. Find something to do.

  • @Maglobrog and that other dude

You both suck. Okay? It's the Internet. Fuck your own face.

  • Not on youtube... you can be sure of that

  • Joanna Newsom goes a bit Nigel Tufnel in this interview. Lol, just kidding. She knows what she is talking about, she is also modest. Kinda reminds me of him tho.

  • I've seen this somewhere else on the net where it was much better quality, strange how it transferred so poorly. Nevertheless, thanks for taking the time to post it.

  • can anyone tell me the song thats played at the start and the end of this interveiw.thanks

  • The song is called "monkey & bear" and obviously is one of hers

  • thanks a million.

  • "I'm interested in how bark is made" - Hansel from Zoolander. This is just as funny.

  • "I wasn't like the other kids, who dreamed about being an astronaut...I was more interested in what bark was made out of...on a tree." HA!

I love Joanna loads and loads but I love zoolander too :P

  • yeah, she's one of a kind.

  • hahaha.

    up with joanna...

    down with christianity!

"can you sing something for us?".... WHAT A SHITHEAD

  • She's such a lovely and wonderful person. I wish people would be kinder to her so that she can feel less frightened to voice her true opinion during interviews.

  • I don't think so... And last time I checked my opinion is just as important as yours... It's just a matter of opinion...

Well what kind of music do you listen to if you don't mind me asking...

  • she bewfull, n honest n is all purrfect in an impurrfect way ; )

  • Did you record this on your phone?

  • I wish! :P it's just bad quality, i don't know who interviewed her

  • @dbspin ~ this is a copy of the original ~hence the crummy quality . Look around for the good one it's out here somewhere !

  • ah, when he asked her to sing, i was praying she would say no, and she didn't. i love her so much.

  • The interviewer, in addition to having a 5 dollar camera, seems to be having a stroke or perhaps phone sex. MMmmm. MMmm. MMMMmmm. Mad annoying, if we wanted to hear from your frog ass we would send an interviewer to your room.

  • What song is this?

  • Monkey & Bear :)

  • I like her comment about the 'older myth.'

  • no way this will never end up on youtube

  • I find it interesting that she dislikes bootlegs of her work so much. But I suppose someone who is such a cult celebrity like her would have to be extra careful. Such devoted fans could probably understand a retraction of a stated opinion, but errors in live performances are irrevocable.. though sometimes cute. ah well. the bittersweet epitome of recording technology.

  • @stillcountingsheep

i think the bootlegs she referred to are probably Walnut Whales and Yarn and Glue. pretty sure in other interviews she's expressed how she isn't too fond of the fact that those are still floating around...... which is too bad because they're so amazing........

  • I love it :) It is indeed a shame that the quality isn't better, but it's still very nice :)

  • i love her, she's so fucking awesome. <3

  • she's such a cute little darling! :-*

  • that's some crazy hotel corridor

  • Totally. Thought I was in a firt person shooter game.

  • Cheeky french bastard.

  • it is not only Christianity that has adapted myths. The flood of Noah in the Old Testament(Judaisitic and islamic aswell as Christian text)has its origins in a the babylonian food myth of Ut-Napishtim, a deluge thought to have occurred in 2800 bc.Also Moses may have been a composit character of Babylonian kings- namely Sargon the Great and Hammurabi. The latter wrote down laws on pieces of stone tablets a 1000 yrs before the time of moses. These can be found in the louvre near the mona lisa.

  • uhhh. Have you talked with Joanna about her religious beliefs? I'm willing to bet they're a little more complex than youre giving her credit for.

  • The older myth refers to similar nararatives such as the Epic of Gilgamesh. Myth doesn't mean untrue just that a literal interpretation is unnecessary. Even some of the most pious Christians are aware of the geological, metereological, biological and engineering difficulties of a strictly literal interpretation of the Ark story and she is just suggesting respect for it's probable origins. I just think your "fairy pagan" & "satanic "utopia" comments are a bit knee jerk disrespectful and hostile.

  • "Sooner or later you'll bare your teeth..."

Great interview, love her music. :)

  • A really great interview. Good to hear her thoughts on Ys. The cheek of the guy asking Joanna to sing a cappella in an interview!!!

Such a shame about the picture quality but thanks for posting.

  • Cheek? I don't know about "cheek". My only comment would be that perhaps he shouldn't have insisted, but he was perfectly courteous in his request and I don't think it is "cheeky" of him to ask for a little singing--not if he was a Joanna fan (which you'd certainly hope so, wouldn't you!) If I met Joanna, I would request a tiny tune too, and I don't think it would be presumptuous of me to do so. A request is a request, not a demand. Calling it "cheek" is, I think, a little overboard.

  • but the thing is, virtually any singer out there refuses to just break into song for someone unless they have their instrument with them... You know, if Billy Corgan were sitting in a hotel lobby with his guitar, sure why not request a tune?

But when you're already taking up someone's time, you shouldn't even bother asking because when they say no, it makes everything awkward. Especially when you are persistant!

  • yeah i totally agree!

  • So what? If i'm a writer, would you want me to write a bunch of shit for you for free?

  • No. But I don't think it would be "cheeky" of me to request, half-jokingly, that you write me a sentence, if you had the time.

I agree the guy shouldn't have insisted. But it's quite natural to want to hear Joanna's stunning voice first-hand--especially, once again, for a fan, who presumably finds her singing quite a magical thing indeed.

  • Fair enough.

  • @TheDensley7 yes.

  • look at my kite fly, rodrigooo hijo de puta pone el link asi todos lo ven bien, eso se llama ser HIJO DE PUTA jajajajajajajaaj

  • thanks for this. it's marvelous.
