creepy...still i said this because i found it strange in black and white, since my chilhood i had this fear, at least this clip has sound, without it would make shat bricks
Yes Schilitzie is a him, and there are some sources that say his real name was Simon Metz, but others say thats depatable, very little is known about his early life.
What a Wonderffull World. In this place, called EARTH PLANET, where the beauty model is "estereotipado" until today, still we perceive looks of repulses. When I read some comments, the the certainty of that the ignorance the beauty exists and is strong.
They are microcephalics, which are commonly known as "pinheads." It is a condition in which the head is smaller than normal and the brain underdeveloped, and those that have it and survive usually don't progress past the mental age of 4 or 5.
And they aren't all girls in this clip either - the one with the thick eyebrows here is actually a male - "Schlitzie" - it was just easier to put him in a dress to take care of his toilet duties.
So many things in "Freaks" breaks my heart. Like this scene; the happy little circus people dancing and singing and some awful person comes by and scares them. Oooh, it made me so mad!
When I saw that I thought "boy, is SHE going to get it"!, which was rather satisfying. It was infuriating to see her and Hercules be so rude and nasty to the sideshow performers, but I knew they would live to regret it. They got what they deserved, hurrah!
The original ending was cut out.../not only did Cleo meet her well deserved fate but Hercules was castrated by the gang and ended up singing 'castrata' (high male counter-tenor voice) at the sideshow!!
Yes, he had a 12 piece band in the Baltimore area. He was leader and pianist...A very strong man! First person to climb the Washington Monument, of course only using his hands!!
Thanks. After watching "Freaks," I realized it was Johnny. In his retirement from show business, Johnny became a painter of window screens (a local art form in Baltimore). Now and again I would see him sitting on the white marble steps of his row house. Never had the opportunity to meet him, as this was always enroute somewhere by car. But he was quite a startling sight, first time.
pip & flip were my ancestors, they were from yucatan & their last names is Kim :) i made a whole research in biography. heh too bad i didn't get to meet them.

I absolutely adore this film. I feel it's almost a fairytale, a beautiful moral tale.
This scene is one of my favourites, the dancing, the child-like play, it's all beautiful.
Im fascinated by these 'weird' but wonderful human beings.
I am going to create art about them.

Is that Johnny Eck? He had quite a story too, and was a band leader for a time.
