This is basically a steam pot with round cotton fabric that fit onto the pot with a lid. I actually have a bun cuon pot and I got it at a Vietnamese store in the United States.
If someone wanted to have a bun cuon pot they could make a make-shift one by having the cotton fabric snugged on the pot tightly.
This is realy cool and all but, there are dozens of similar vedeos out there and I still don't know what the batter is... (strained rice purée maybe? or just rice flour with water?)
Okay, does anybody (preferably Vietnamese; since you'll probably know best), know WHERE to purchase the cloth and other cookware being used to cook banh cuon?? My mom knows how to make it but she wants to buy the actual utensils rather than using a pan. We went to every kind of Asian store (Thai, Chinese, Lao, and even Vietnamese) but they don't sell any??
Try going to your local super market, they might have "cheese cloth" its a fine meshed cloth, it can be used to make cheese/tofu and or be use in this application but soak it with clean water first...
You will also need a "splatter guard" to mount on top of the boiling water....this is where the cheese cloth sits on... look at the video!
Technically not that super healthy as you need a good amount of oil to prevent sticking

This is extremely healthy food. And the girls talking there sound superduper sweet. Vietnam is like a paradise IMHO.
