I have to say u fighting to the noob.

To who commanded roman units:

1. Infantry: Should release testudo formation right after come close enough to fire pilum, that is 1 of the strongest points of roman infantries, eastern spearman has low total defense.

2. Cavalry: Charge 1 roman cavalry to flank of pontus cavalry while them charging to infantry. Only need 1 unit not all cavalry to charge to flank of phalanx, keep the rest to defend enemy cavalry charging.

Btw, always keep cavalry charging.

good battle, one thing i didn't like about rtw was that the testudo formation always seemed to drain the legionaries' stamina like crazy.

should have used your cavalry to flank their archers. and then waited in the rear to attack the infantry from behind while they were fighting your phalanx units.

I like how in Rome TW the cavalry jumps over the spears and into the troops when charging, but I HATE how in Medieval TW they just get skewered or run away.

@Snapshot290 Still, if you look at for example battles of Latin European (i.e. Catholic) armies against the Hussites or the Ottomans, ride into the spears or spear defences is exactly what they did... (just that they usually "only" had their horses killed and fought whoever was behind the spears)

The Rome guy really sucked. How could he use his cavalry this recklessly? He charged in side of one of your phalanx even though there was other one just waiting for that to get in a side of his cavalry + your cav. It was a very lame maneuver.

Unless your being attacked from the side, testudo is kinda worthless because legionairies can take alot of hits from arrows and still keep going. Advancing without testudo you would only lose a few men

I hate one thing about romans, When you tell them to attack, they freaking stand there for a minute, get their javelin out and throw them. The romans would of been better if they didn't throw javelin.

@moalsaha If you shift click they ignore that order to throw first. Although their pila can destroy a unit, if they get both throws on them. And usually i deploy my legionaries as a defensive line as their javelin is a epic melee deterent. lol

Phalanx excludes big shields and spears especially this long are nearly useless against target with huge shield and iron heavy armor. Why do you think romans owned greeks and greeks owned persians who had no heavy armor nor shield?

I actually wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of folks went to battle completly nude.

The thing is that veteran praetorian would stand on equal ground with veteran spartan. It's about personal skill, equipment and strategy of fighting, not your origin or ancestry. Spartans individually were not cool at all. Their society was simply very militaristic and they had more veterans then other Greek city-states, still spartan veteran was worth as much as athenian veteran.

I remember playing the Greeks in campaign and it was always so easy to get heroic victories because your men were basically hiding behind a wall of pointy sticks. On top of that the ai just ran their men right into that wall.

That SPQR player should not have charged straight into the wall of spears. As was mentioned already, you have to play dirty against phalanx to break them up and hit them from behind.
