Dear Lord I pray that I will no longer be called stupid by people and I will become more intelligent ......... Wait ! somethings happening. My thoughts are becoming clearer. Yes I see the bigger picture now and understand things which I never did before. ....But Oh, what else is happeniing. Is that doubt I'm feeling. No its called its critical evaluation. Whats this ! My intellect is telling me God does not exists. Yes its clear he is just a figment of our imaginations. I am an ATHEIST
I've been praying avidly, more often in the past few weeks and I've been seeing many signs from God.
Yesterday I was coming home and it was freezing outside. I put the key in the hole and turned but the lock inside was frozen so I couldn't get the door open. I tried and tried and it was stuck and I was FREEZING cold and I didn't know what to do, my hands, ouch,
But then I remembered God and INSTANTLY door OPENED! <3 God...
Prayer doesn't work for those who don't have faith in God. And God is All-Knowing. God tests your faith too. God may make you sick or give you a minor injury and observe your reaction.
You may or may not pray. To those that did pray, and had no results, two things would happen. First, either you will immediately give up and not believe in the power of prayer anymore, or second, you will keep trying, praying day by day, increasing your faith. Then you shall see results.
So... Prayer works as a placebo effect? Weird, who would've guessed? Oh wait, everyone.
I guarantee you, you could be praying to Ra, Odin, or Zeus and the effect would be the same, as long as the people praying really believed it would work
@DragonxxxFire What you're doing is invoking Pascal's Wager, which has been proven bullshit a billion times. What if the Zoroastrians are right? Then both you and I go to Hell. What if the Hindus are right? Your argument is asinine and doesn't work. There are 2 options, either a deity does or doesn't exists. There have been 10,000 deities in Man's history. 1/10,000 doesn't seem like good odds for either of us. So shut the Hell up and use your brain. Even if a god exists, it probably isn't Yahweh
@SicSemperTirannus You're atheist...when it comes to people who believe in God verses people who don't, there's only 2 sides. My side and yours. You don't HAVE to worry about the next step...which religion is right.
You don't have to deal with the next step, you're problem is the first step. Whether God exists or not. You choose not to believe in him, ignore his signs, and go against the will of nature.
Let me give you a tip. Since your atheist you don't care. Read the Quran
@DragonxxxFire Since I'm atheist I don't care? That's not true in the slightest. Please stop insulting me.
Atheism is the default position. You're the one making a claim. Supply evidence for it or abandon the belief. In more vulgar terms: Put up or shut up.
I suggest the Qur'an, because it's the only flawless holy book in the world, that has been unchanged and not corrupted. Make sure you read the legit version and not some Christian/Jew/Hindi/Atheist fanboy edited version to spread false lies.
And let me give you a tip. When you're reading, pretend like that everything that is being said is true, just pretend. Since your atheist it shouldn't hurt you to think.
@DragonxxxFire I've read the Tao Te Ching, and everything in it IS true and flawless, though examinations of quality are subjective. Sure, I can't read Chinese so I read it in English, but that's not a big deal I don't think. Either way, it's one of the most beautiful books ever written. And I've read several books by the Dalai Lama, which I consider "holy".
What does it matter anyway? Even if I read the Qur'an, why would I suddenly change my mind? And why does it matter what I pretend?
@SicSemperTirannus Yes of course there are many other literature out there that talk about the same things. If you look at every human being, there are 2 types of people. Ones who only care about this world, and the ones who care about the hereafter. The hereafter is for eternity whereas the present life is short, compared to the afterlife.
When you die, everything that you owned or used to be will not come with you. But the faith that you had in God stays forever. Read.
@DragonxxxFire The "hearafter" doesn't exist. With the death of the body comes the death of the mind. "Souls" do not exist. The material/natural world is all that currently is known to exist. Would you kindly provide evidence otherwise? I'm sure that every credible scientist ever is dying to hear your earth-shattering discovery that they've never found.
Also, I did buy the Qur'an yesterday, if only for the joy of reading about a mythology, the same way I enjoy Greek fairytales and myths
@DragonxxxFire So the Qur'an is true because is says it's true because it's in the Qur'an because it's true? That's circular logic and doesn't work.
Faith is a feeling. More than that it's a feeling that you're right contrary to evidence. If you believe something without evidence, then you're delusional. If you have evidence, then show it to me. The Qur'an is not evidence.
@SicSemperTirannus Do you know what the Qur'an actually is? It isn't just a book, that was written by a normal author. Everything in the Qur'an was revealed by the creator of this Universe, God.
And he makes CLEAR statements on how to live your life, and what is right from wrong, and what your reward will be for what action and what your punishment will be for this sin.
I mean, everything that is being said in Qur'an is 100% true, a normal human CANNOT deny the words!! Read.
@SicSemperTirannus You (O Muhammad) was not a reader of any Scripture before it, nor did you write (such a Scripture) with your right hand, for then those who follow falsehood might (have a right) to doubt it. (al-Ankabut, 29.48)
If you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down onto Our servant (Muhammad), then produce a chapter of the like thereof, and call your witnesses, supporters, who are apart from God, if you are truthful. (al-Baqara, 2.23)
@SicSemperTirannus I gave you verses of what the Qur'an states. The first verse states that Muhammad (saw) was an illiterate man when he started receiving these revelations from Allah. And if this wasn't true, then why was he giving out these random verses in a poetic form IN ARABIC? He didn't even know Arabic, he had people translate it for him!
You cannot prove anything here, because I just beat you here and now.
There's no way for a man to know everything about the world.
@DragonxxxFire Can you prove that any of that happened? Other than using the Qur'an? Also, Homer was blind and illiterate, yet he managed to write both the Iliad and the Odyssey, the greatest works of literature in any age, entirely in his head, and memorized them. Extraordinary feats don't require an extraordinary God, they require an extraordinary man.
@DragonxxxFire There's a large amount of evidence to say that he wrote the Iliad. He may not have written the Odyssey, but it's not entirely clear. Muhammad may have done amazing things, I know he did, but he was neither divine nor was he a prophet
@SicSemperTirannus He was indeed a prophet no doubt about it. I suggest you watch the movie, The Message, it was made in the 1960/70/80s or so.
We Muslims accept all previous prophets of God, including Adam (as), Moses (as), Abraham (as), Noah (as), Ezekiel (as), and Jesus (as). But Muhammad (saw) was indeed another prophet, and the HIGHEST and the SEAL of all the prophets.
There's large amounts of evidence regarding this, educate yourself. I am but a plain warner for what is yet to come.
@DragonxxxFire I've heard every bit of evidence that can be put forward and have disregarded it all. Even if your God did exist, I would never worship him. He's a vile and sick monster.
@DragonxxxFire Playing the "Atheist Government" card are we now? Fun fact: I'm an anarchist. I hate the government, any government, more than you can possibly imagine. I don't care if it's atheistic, which the US government most certainly is not, I still abhor it. Even if it outlawed religion, which I think might have a positive effect on society if I'm being honest, I'd still oppose it.
Even if we have different beliefs, we both are human beings. And one thing we humans are blessed with is the ability to be kind and love one another.
See, it's better to create friendships than create enemies, and it feels better than revenge.
May God guide you to the right road, and may all the evil in your life always be at your back, and may the signs light up your heart, and all unhappiness is removed.
little lady, this is the internet, a place where people that trust science usually go to because they have a computer made with science and believe in science itself, this is the wrong place to claim prayers work by giving small paragraphs saying it does... The internet is famous for it's quote "Pics/Vid or it didn't happen!" it's going to be impossible to satisfy them, because they don't care if they can't disprove it. they only care if you can prove it in front of their eyes several times over
Prayer may work, but not through some divine intervention. Scientists have seen different brainwaves in people that affect how they feel after prayers. Basically, they show that since they believe their prayers work, they have a better chance of working. In other words, the mind is healing the body. Kind of like the placebo effect and double blind studies when testing new medicine
Lol all these statistics do is insinuate that god picks favorites, which is disturbing considering he's supposed to love all equally. God heals those who groveling and tell him how awesome he is, in order to obtain cures and longer life? But believe heaven is ones goal and only true goal, and they're trying to live longer and avoid dying early? Even though a terminal illness basically means your times up, they fight it? Fighting gods invitation?
GodTallkingSnake is refering to the 2006 "Benson Prayer Study." It may be the most comprehensive study on the therapeutic effects incessory prayer ever undertaken involving approximately 1800 CABG (coronary arterial bypass grafts) patients. The results are surprising, infact in one comparission of data, complications actually increased significantly for patients that knew they were to receive prayer. (Also, simple meditation works wonders at lowering stress-induced blood pressure.)
"These are just a few of the thousands of studies done on the power of prayer. "
Once again, you people have no qualms about lying to support your own positions. In 2006 the John Templeton Foundation funded a $2.4 million study on 1,800 heart surgery patients (the biggest ever study about the intercessionary power of prayer).
The results were published on the American Heart Journal website. The result? PRAYER MADE NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL. Re-read what your idiot bible says about lying, you jerks!
if you have the will to it, and no doubt, you can do anything you want to. an example of this is Betowen, he made music hwen was deaf in both of the ears :P
@tontobones out of curiosity what would it mean if I was telling the truth. What motivation do I have to lie? I'll never meet you and if I did we wouldn't know and it benefits me in no way to lie. However, what if you consider I am telling the truth? It means some things you believe that haven't been proven one way or the other are wrong and that there is a good chance you are loved by your Creator. What benefit do I have from saying that?
@ndrthrdr1 My real point is that you have no argument whatsoever to justify that they are wrong. As much as you scream wrong at somebody, it still won't make them right or wrong. I can't use the natural to prove the supernatural because the premise is just bad science but I can argue that there are billions of accounts of the super natural all over and to just dismiss them for whatever invalid arguments you can make is foolishness.
@Andrewizner It may not be possible to prove that a god does or doesn't exist, but if a god is actually doing real things in the real world, we can observe, measure and record the results of this god's actions.
If you Google heart patient prayer study
and really read the whole article about a properly conducted study on the results of prayer, by believers, on the recovery of heart surgery patients, you'll see that prayers didn't help at all.
@ndrthrdr1 Have you watched this video. It pretty much says the complete opposite which just shows you, no matter how much you say they are, scientific studies aren't objective because they are done by people who have biases. I've seen hundreds of people who have been healed after prayer and although I can't justify an of the experiences through facts my faith is all I need personally.
I just want everyone to know so you will stop saying "why won't God heal amputees?" I have personally witnessed a man's arm grow back at the Oasis House in Detroit MI. It was probably about fifteen years ago and it was missing from the forearm down and completely grew back on the spot. There were dozens of other witnesses including my father who prayed for him. Stop asking stupid questions when you have no proof and try to go find proof of your side and when you realize you're wrong, come back.
@GodIsReal101 I'm sorry, it wasn't directed at you. On the day I posted this comment particularly there were at least three comments suggesting God doesn't or hasn't healed amputees. Rather than respond to each one and because I assumed there were more I posted a general response to why it was a stupid question. In short I targeted an atheist audience on your video and I do apologize.
@Democrate4Life Here is my example of you... I can't believe someone would say that, I'm so offended... let me act like a giant douche bag becuase I have nothing else to do but call you a liar.
Great name by the way, it shows that you really consider both sides of an arguement whenever they are presented. You're probably one of the most unbiased people I've ever talked to.
@ndrthrdr1 Just so you know, my dad was the one praying and he has never sought to con a single person. He didn't get an offering or any compensation whatsoever nor did he feel the need to go to the news.
The problem with the million dollar prize is it's basically a prize to prove that God is real, if an all-powerful being doesn't want to reveal Himself how are we supposed to reveal Him.
@Andrewizner The James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) offers a prize of one million U.S. dollars which it will pay out to anyone who can demonstrate a supernatural or paranormal ability under agreed-upon scientific testing criteria.
If your dad could actually do that, he'd win a million bucks,.
Many have tried - all have failed. The prize isn't only for proving faith healing. It also applies to mind-reading, out-of-body experiences, or any other sort of magic.
@ndrthrdr1 My dad would never try to use his faith to win a million dollars. That entire idea is offensive. For someone who believes that God has granted the authority to preform miracles it would be insulting to try and use that for our own gain.
Vise-versa anyone who would try to win a million dollars using the super natural clearly doesn't have authority from God and I can't speak of acts that you're referring to because they don't come from God.
@Andrewizner Right ... people are starving to death, one every 14 seconds, and he would rather let them continue to live and die in misery than prove that he can actually regrow limbs with prayer. People are dead needlessly because your dad and this healing wizard god are modest.
Also, he won't do it on camera to prove it because this remote-control god wants to keep it a secret, but can't stop you from announcing it on the internet.
@ndrthrdr1 People die because of sin, not necessarily theirs but sin in general. God made a world without death we screwed it up and now you complain about it.
There is a big difference from trying to prove God through His miracles and talking about God. Churches often record miracles happening those are just always denied as true because science says it's not possible. Also the Bible (the best selling book ever) is full of miracles.
@RTKFilms it doesn't mean I'm wrong either. However, it does mean you're weird if you don't which is what I am stating. You are WEIRD. Just want to make sure you know that.
I know a guy who was born without an arm. No matter how sincerely he prays and believes that god will heal him, god will NEVER give him an arm and everyone reading this comment knows this. Are there ANY believers in prayer who think god might give him an arm? Honestly? And if god is willing to heal hypertension (and other illnesses that are affected by a person's positive mental state), isn't it interesting that he will never heal a missing arm or anything that's impervious to mental state?
@TheViciousSquare 1. This man can have two arms and a perfect body one day. 2. This man can have a mechanical arm that God could provide the finances for. 3. God created this man in the inmost place so our God could replace his arm but because he does not based on this broken world does not mean that this man can't have a good life or peace that this world or medicine can't provide. God promises peace, salvation, love, life everlasting, direction, wisdom, and yes healing. All are important to God
@GodIsReal101 1. You mean he can have 2 arms after his current body dies and rots? That's not much consolation for living a whole life armless because, contrary to scripture, god won't answer his prayer in this lifetime. 2. Yes, this man *could* have a mechanical arm that god could provide the finances for but it's the darnedest thing...despite years of prayer, he and his family still can't afford it. 3. If your thoughts are as clear as your language, pray for clarity because this made no sense.
0:44 "Required fewer hospitalization" ? You see, HIV virus varies on severity depends on your current immune system status. If you started out weak, you'll die faster. If you got the HIV with strong immune system, you'll die slower. OF COURSE IN THE SAME SENSE, people will have different hospitalization requirements because the progression of HIV on these patients body are different from one another. AND IF prayers do really work, don't you think that God would've just removed it completely?
If prayer is not working , it is because you dont believe that it will and you are estranged from the Lord. You become like with whom you associate.
Your comment about the pope having a bullet proof case is because of a world that is very sick emotionally, physically. God gave the human race a choice, we make choices every day, we are not robots. We have free wills to do good or do evil, its up to the person but that does not negate the fact that there is a real loving Heavenly Father.
Notice how many psychiatrist were quoted? RIGHT! That's why all the states with more religion have more suicide, rape, abortion, crime and lower test scores. Pray in school. It's not helping your grades!
@Mammothviking I think thats a great point you just made. Why don't you look up America's test scores since we have removed God from schools and see what you find. Here is a hint they went down... Your argument was a self defeating one.
@GodIsReal101 On average IQ scores are lower in the lower poverty and more religous states. Kids still pray in school to themselves. There are private Religious schools which DO produce Higher IQ students but so do non-religious private schools. Private is the way to go but very hard for many families.
@GodIsReal101 Any you make the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy here exactly why? When studies show that there is a negative correlation between societal health and religious belief, you try to dismiss this by posting this type of comment? However the studies don't draw a causal link between the two but there is a definite negative correlation.
@GodIsReal101 If you put god back into school you would have to divide grades up based on facts and fiction. Daddy I got a D in facts but an A in fiction....Son your ready for heaven now lol
@GodIsReal101 You can't remove an imaginary character from a school. It's just NOT possible. Even if God WERE real, he claims to be THE most powerful thing in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE! And if that were true, he would not be defeated by something low as a school council!
@JonBandMiley God says to it's people to fight against God. But even the highest leaders of the Earth will be unable to fight the wrath of God. A simple so called "natural disaster" would wipe everyone out, sent from God.
God says to humans, that have they not traveled the land and looked at what happen to civilizations that disbelieved in God in the past? Surely, they have been all wiped out.
The same will happen if you don't worship your creator. I am but a plain warner of the punishment.
prayer works, but not as a wish sent to god. it may cause some of those benefits, but that's because it's a form of meditation. it has nothing to do with god.
Lowering bloodpreasure is easy if its not caused by some kind of illness, just take a few mins every now and then to just sit and relax.
And take it from someone who actually works in a hospital, a praying little boy has the same mortality rate as an old atheist, it just depends on other factors, the thing that can tip the scales tough are if one of them actually chose to try and stay alive.
Prayers are not going to be all answered why because they are only answered when it is the right and most deserving of the one who is praying.you cannot get what you want all the time without works. so how can you say that prayers does not work when you obviously never really put it to use. And i mean practical use. Don't be dumb and say that just because you didn't get your prayer answered because what you have been praying for was to be able to something ridiculously impossible.
The fact that prayer does NOT work all the time is proof that prayer does not work at all. If it works it will work all the time, if not then something else is determining the outcome of your voodoo magic prayers.
God = Jesus Christ = The Actual Sun = Sun Worship = 1 Billion Christian Fools
what was the content of the prayer? how long were the prayers? Male or female or mixed? Old or young?done to believers or on controlled subjects with no set beliefs? which religion was focused on muslim prayer, jewish, tibetan. what about just a bunch of non specific visits or possitive thoughts from people?
@myteethareshiny You clearly don't understand what prayer is. We believe that DR's can be used by God to help mankind. In proverbs we can learn that wisdom is a good thing and can help us along in all aspects of our life. Some of the greatest minds in science and medicine have been Christians. The apostle paul went to see a DR for a constant illness he had. God choose people to be his instrument and uses that unstrument often. It is a great system of love he has created.
@GodIsReal101 You clearly don't understand what Doctors are. Doctors are used by people when they are sick to tell them how to get better (like what medicine to take and what foods to eat etc). and how do you know that you're praying to your god? there's just as much evidence for (or lack of i should say) the existence of Allah or Shiva. you don't know what you're talking about at all.
@GodIsReal101 If what you said is true, then people do not have free will. Also, if what you said is true, then God cannot act on his own and requires human beings as media for acting on Earth, which does nothing to prove His existence or the idea that prayer actually does something. It goes right back to where it started; God cannot be proven without circular reasoning.
@GodIsReal101 I did not give an either or example, I gave an example in which both of what I said would be true if what you said is true, and yes, I am 100% sure about it. If God uses Doctors to heal people, then 1) God cannot act on is own, and 2) We have no free will. There could be other examples, but it doesn't matter because these are biconditional statements.
@TheCommonCritic Let me explain. If God uses Doctors to heal then God cannot act on his own is a self defeating statement. God can choice to USE man as a tool for his glory. Who gave man the wisdom to preform these acts? So once again I will repeat my point. You are not wise to say God could USE a DR but then he is not acting or doing it alone. If God is using someone then God is at the hand of the event. The laws of non contradiction work against you if you denounce this simple fact.
@GodIsReal101 Who gave man the wisdom to perform these acts? We did through arduous hours of trial and error. You used baseless assumptions, such as the implication that God gave us the power to heal people, when in reality we gave it to ourselves. You might say that's conceited, but it's no more so than the idea that we were favored by some omnipotent being. Then you say that what you said is a fact, but an idea needs to be verified before it can be called a fact, and God has not been verified.
Elisabeth Fischer Targ (August 4, 1961 - July 18, 2002) was a psychiatrist specializing in psychic phenomena and the role of spirituality in health and healing. Targ famously produced a series of papers investigating the effects of prayer on AIDS patients, attempting to test the theory with a high degree of experimental rigor, with questionable results that eventually were not confirmed by a study published after her death.
@GodIsReal101 I think you need to work on your reading comprehension skills. If you read carefully, you'll see that the results were not confirmed by later studies. What matters in scientific studies (since this is what you seem to be concerned with), is not only the result of the initial study, but also that the results can be duplicated. Targ's results were not duplicated by further studies.
@GodIsReal101 In addition, the only difference in variables in the original study was in number of doctor visits. There was no difference in mortality rate, symptoms, etc (which is probably what prayer should affect, not how many times you visit the hospital). Targ did not publish these results, she only published the results that supported her hypothesis. This is known as cherry picking evidence, and again invalidates the study's scientific credibility.
@what567 The findings did not just show the relation to doctor visits but symptoms hence the reasons for having a DR visit. You just suggested that people were not attending check ups or something and that is not what the data stated. The people felt better and had less symptoms hence needing less treatment and visits. The problem is this. Atheist do the study and have a bias and tend to lean toward certain data. Theist run a study based on what they have seen and the data looks bias.
@GodIsReal101 Did you read what I wrote? There was no statistically significant difference in symptoms. There was a difference in the number of doctor visits and hospital stays, but this data does not necessarily correlate with the illness of the patient. I never suggested that people weren't attending checkups, and I have no idea where you got that from.
@GodIsReal101 You also suggest that when "Atheists" (you assume that because a study discounts one providing support for prayer, it MUST have been done by atheists) do a study it is inherently biased, but when theists do one it isn't? First of all, you have provided no evidence of any bias in any study discounting the efficacy of prayer, while I have clearly demonstrated bias in Targ's study, though you clearly didn't understand a word I wrote. Read it again.
@GodIsReal101 Second, Targ was listed as an author on the later study that could not duplicate the results of her earlier one, which clearly destroys your paranoid notion of a conspiracy by atheists to manipulate data to contradict your beliefs.
Third, and most importantly, the study was never meant to test prayer to the christian god in the first place! The "healers" were asked to send "positive energy" to the patients, not pray to god. Targ was interested in psychic phenomena, not religion.
@GodIsReal101 you're still wrong. according to your video, half of people who received prayers required less hospitalization. those results lead to the conclusion that there is a 50/50 chance that you either will or won't require hospitalization. you literally would have gotten the same result from flipping a coin.
@benjaminmschroeder Well I appreciate your comments. I disagree with your thoughts on the data presented as I know of no research that says a sugar pill can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, ease the pain of severe injuries, help heal the sick with cancer, heart failure, and cancer. Reduce the amount of issues with AIDS. So I must with respect disagree with your comment.
I find this to be hilarious, cause' in the book of false hope, otherwise known as the bible (or simply a bad joke). it says that ''god helps those who help themselves'' meaning that he cant, and won't, help you if you pray for it. and after you have achieved your goal, you have no further need to be assisted, rendering god errelevent. LOL! there's no god listening anyway, so your just lying to yourself in the end.
It's called the placebo effect. It works because the practitioner THINKS it works, not because it has any particular power in itself. It's psychosomatic. Studies show that prayer ONLY has this effect when it is known by the person that they are being prayed for.
I've heard people say that AIDS is God's punishment for homosexuality, and even if it isn't, if you believe in God then you believe that God created all things and therefore created the AIDS virus.
So he created this horrible virus and then gives mild relief to the patient when somebody else prays for them? And then lets the patient die in the end?
These "facts" seem a little bias or incomplete. I have a feeling that while the professionals who conducted these studies found that prayer does these things, the same effects can be achieved through non-religious meditation or by simply letting an AIDS patient know that you care about them.
You might also want to look into how many people have been saved by science while God stood idly by. If it's a numbers game I'll put my faith in humanity.
this is kind of ridiculous. praying is usually something that is calming, and therefore promotes better health. it is the physical action that causes the change. and the placebo effect can account for people getting prayers doing better. they believe the prayers help, so they get better.
Millions of people pray daily for an end to war and suffering....what's happened? Is God not listening? If more people actually got out there and tried to make a difference instead of taking the easy option and grovelling to their imaginary friend in the sky the world might be a better place.
Everything you cite as a proof for prayer working can be attributed to the placebo effect. Also, at the end where you imply that people without prayer are suicidal and unhappy: no shit. Most atheists come out of a religious household, and thus their parents feel like their child has spat upon their traditions and values. The depression that can be linked to atheism is the result of troubled relations with family, friends, and coworkers, who think that the atheist is an immoral person w/o god.
Read the God Delusion. Dawkins decribes some results from REAL studies that show the exact opposite. Sick people that know that other people are praying for them are actually doing worse, due to additional stress caused by performance anxiety.
so AIDS patients with prayer required less hospitalization (Placebo), and still died, it just took a longer time for them to die. Where is the miracle in that?
If you really believed that prayer works then you shouldn't have made this video. All you had to do was to pray that everyone knows these "facts" by themselves, and it would've worked, because you prayed.
Haha. Well-said. For all of these studies, meditation has been shown to be able to replace prayer and have the same effect. In addition, more rigorous studies have shown that prayer actually makes people worse if they are told that people are praying for them.
Most of the claims you're making aren't proof that "prayer works." It's proof that relaxing yourself on a regular basis to pray makes you more relaxed. Um, duh?
Elisabeth Targ's study was proven to be a sham, so we can cross that one off.
I couldn't find anything about Condren's study, so I suspect he didn't actually do it. Where are the links to your evidence?
And your quote from the American Psych Association is dishonest because it was a study of DEPRESSED ppl. You make it sound otherwise.
It's funny how these people claim prayer works, but when push comes to shove and they catch a life threatening disease they always turn to modern medicine.
If you were so confident you would man up and put your money where your mouth is.
What a steaming pant-load creeping down my leg, this video is.
God, your God, or any God has yet to answer a single prayer. Prayer is delusional thinking. Talking to yourself is useless. Actions on the other hand, work.
Hume refuted the thesis of this video more than 100 years ago. Read Section X of his "Enquiry" called "On Miracles". But then again, nobody cares to read philosophy because nobody cares to think anymore.
None of these statistics prove prayer works.. Are you kidding me?? Where are all the scientists in the house refuting these pseudoscientific data?????
OMG! I was so totally an atheist before I watched this, but it has totally convinced me that God exists and will answer all my prayers! Man, I can't believe I wasted all those years on logic and reason, Why didn't you show me this 20 years ago? Praise the Lord!!!
Most of the supposed testimonies and studies you provided can be simply explained that the effect was placebo.
True, that fits the definition of 'works' but anyone could follow homeopathy and say that it works as well since the 'evidence does exist as long as you look for it'.
Of course prayer will help you to relax, it gives you a sense of security. It's simply a method of dealing with stress by letting go of some mental responsibility. We all deal with stress in different ways.
@GodIsReal101 I think it would not be so easy to put it in a comment on a video.I'll make a video soon. And I'd like to add that it seems strange to me that you believe prayer ALWAYS works. And you must if it is supposedly proven by science that prayer works.B=bc it either does or doesn't.I find it odd because most religious people I have encountered admit that prayer doesn't always work, and those are the times when god had a better idea....

This video is true.
Prayer does certainly help you and reduce stress.

It's like exercising.
DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
So... Prayer works as a placebo effect? Weird, who would've guessed? Oh wait, everyone.
I guarantee you, you could be praying to Ra, Odin, or Zeus and the effect would be the same, as long as the people praying really believed it would work

@SicSemperTirannus Not really. You atheists are really ignorant anyway there's no point in socializing with you anyway.
Even if there was no God, what will happen to us who do believe?
Nothing.
So win-win situation here.
You're in a 50/50 stake.
I pray for your understanding.
Wait your atheist, so I should say, Good Luck instead.

DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
@DragonxxxFire Since I'm atheist I don't care? That's not true in the slightest. Please stop insulting me.
Atheism is the default position. You're the one making a claim. Supply evidence for it or abandon the belief. In more vulgar terms: Put up or shut up.
SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus How about you OPEN UP a holy book and read.
DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
@DragonxxxFire I've read the Tao Te Ching, and everything in it IS true and flawless, though examinations of quality are subjective. Sure, I can't read Chinese so I read it in English, but that's not a big deal I don't think. Either way, it's one of the most beautiful books ever written. And I've read several books by the Dalai Lama, which I consider "holy".
What does it matter anyway? Even if I read the Qur'an, why would I suddenly change my mind? And why does it matter what I pretend?
SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus Yes of course there are many other literature out there that talk about the same things. If you look at every human being, there are 2 types of people. Ones who only care about this world, and the ones who care about the hereafter. The hereafter is for eternity whereas the present life is short, compared to the afterlife.
When you die, everything that you owned or used to be will not come with you. But the faith that you had in God stays forever. Read.
DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
@DragonxxxFire The "hearafter" doesn't exist. With the death of the body comes the death of the mind. "Souls" do not exist. The material/natural world is all that currently is known to exist. Would you kindly provide evidence otherwise? I'm sure that every credible scientist ever is dying to hear your earth-shattering discovery that they've never found.
Also, I did buy the Qur'an yesterday, if only for the joy of reading about a mythology, the same way I enjoy Greek fairytales and myths
SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus Start reading, you're proof is in the Holy Book.
No science will help you believe in the hereafter, or souls, or God. It can guide you to an answer, but science is not your focus.
Your focus is faith, and that's what we have. Faith isn't like hope.
If you knew what faith was, you wouldn't be what you are now. Some humans possess faith, others lack it.
Our job is to help you acquire faith, THEN you will see the true beauty of this world and the next. Read
DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
@DragonxxxFire So the Qur'an is true because is says it's true because it's in the Qur'an because it's true? That's circular logic and doesn't work.
Faith is a feeling. More than that it's a feeling that you're right contrary to evidence. If you believe something without evidence, then you're delusional. If you have evidence, then show it to me. The Qur'an is not evidence.
SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus Do you know what the Qur'an actually is? It isn't just a book, that was written by a normal author. Everything in the Qur'an was revealed by the creator of this Universe, God.
And he makes CLEAR statements on how to live your life, and what is right from wrong, and what your reward will be for what action and what your punishment will be for this sin.
I mean, everything that is being said in Qur'an is 100% true, a normal human CANNOT deny the words!! Read.
DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
@DragonxxxFire How do you know that God wrote it? Prove it to me. Prove to me that any of it is true.
SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus You (O Muhammad) was not a reader of any Scripture before it, nor did you write (such a Scripture) with your right hand, for then those who follow falsehood might (have a right) to doubt it. (al-Ankabut, 29.48)
If you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down onto Our servant (Muhammad), then produce a chapter of the like thereof, and call your witnesses, supporters, who are apart from God, if you are truthful. (al-Baqara, 2.23)
DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
@DragonxxxFire That's not proof. You can't use the Qur'an as proof of the Qur'an
SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus I gave you verses of what the Qur'an states. The first verse states that Muhammad (saw) was an illiterate man when he started receiving these revelations from Allah. And if this wasn't true, then why was he giving out these random verses in a poetic form IN ARABIC? He didn't even know Arabic, he had people translate it for him!
You cannot prove anything here, because I just beat you here and now.

SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus And can you prove that Homer wrote the Iliad and the Odysse?
And let me guess, you're going to say yes, give me links, insult me, or tell me to read/study.

DragonxxxFire 1 month ago
@DragonxxxFire There's a large amount of evidence to say that he wrote the Iliad. He may not have written the Odyssey, but it's not entirely clear. Muhammad may have done amazing things, I know he did, but he was neither divine nor was he a prophet
SicSemperTirannus 1 month ago
@SicSemperTirannus He was indeed a prophet no doubt about it. I suggest you watch the movie, The Message, it was made in the 1960/70/80s or so.
We Muslims accept all previous prophets of God, including Adam (as), Moses (as), Abraham (as), Noah (as), Ezekiel (as), and Jesus (as). But Muhammad (saw) was indeed another prophet, and the HIGHEST and the SEAL of all the prophets.
There's large amounts of evidence regarding this, educate yourself. I am but a plain warner for what is yet to come.

Once again, you people have no qualms about lying to support your own positions. In 2006 the John Templeton Foundation funded a $2.4 million study on 1,800 heart surgery patients (the biggest ever study about the intercessionary power of prayer).

Andrewizner 3 months ago
@Andrewizner Some people actually believe that they've been abducted by aliens or are psychic.
Some are lying, but others truly believe that they're telling the truth.
Their belief doesn't make their claims true. People have been deceived or mistaken over and over in the past.
Their certainty doesn't change the fact that they're wrong.
ndrthrdr1 3 months ago
@ndrthrdr1 My real point is that you have no argument whatsoever to justify that they are wrong. As much as you scream wrong at somebody, it still won't make them right or wrong. I can't use the natural to prove the supernatural because the premise is just bad science but I can argue that there are billions of accounts of the super natural all over and to just dismiss them for whatever invalid arguments you can make is foolishness.
Andrewizner 3 months ago
@Andrewizner It may not be possible to prove that a god does or doesn't exist, but if a god is actually doing real things in the real world, we can observe, measure and record the results of this god's actions.
If you Google heart patient prayer study
and really read the whole article about a properly conducted study on the results of prayer, by believers, on the recovery of heart surgery patients, you'll see that prayers didn't help at all.
Over 1,600 patients. Same surgery. No help.

There's no such thing.

@ndrthrdr1 My dad would never try to use his faith to win a million dollars. That entire idea is offensive. For someone who believes that God has granted the authority to preform miracles it would be insulting to try and use that for our own gain.

If you actually believe that ....

@ndrthrdr1 People die because of sin, not necessarily theirs but sin in general. God made a world without death we screwed it up and now you complain about it.

GodIsReal101 5 months ago
@GodIsReal101 1. You mean he can have 2 arms after his current body dies and rots? And i mean practical use. Don't be dumb and say that just because you didn't get your prayer answered because what you have been praying for was to be able to something ridiculously impossible.

The fact that prayer does NOT work all the time is proof that prayer does not work at all. If it works it will work all the time, if not then something else is determining the outcome of your voodoo magic prayers.

what was the content of the prayer? how long were the prayers? Male or female or mixed? Old or young?done to believers or on controlled subjects with no set beliefs? which religion was focused on muslim prayer, jewish, tibetan. what about just a bunch of non specific visits or possitive thoughts from people?
this does not prove it just like no proof of god.

There has been no proof that prayer actually heals people. People pray for healing, and then they go to the doctor. Hypocrisy much?
myteethareshiny 10 months ago
@myteethareshiny You clearly don't understand what prayer is. We believe that DR's can be used by God to help mankind. In proverbs we can learn that wisdom is a good thing and can help us along in all aspects of our life. Some of the greatest minds in science and medicine have been Christians. The apostle paul went to see a DR for a constant illness he had. God choose people to be his instrument and uses that unstrument often. It is a great system of love he has created.
GodIsReal101 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 You clearly don't understand what Doctors are. Doctors are used by people when they are sick to tell them how to get better (like what medicine to take and what foods to eat etc). and how do you know that you're praying to your god? there's just as much evidence for (or lack of i should say) the existence of Allah or Shiva. you don't know what you're talking about at all.
3070723b 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 If what you said is true, then people do not have free will. Also, if what you said is true, then God cannot act on his own and requires human beings as media for acting on Earth, which does nothing to prove His existence or the idea that prayer actually does something. It goes right back to where it started; God cannot be proven without circular reasoning.
TheCommonCritic 10 months ago
@TheCommonCritic Are you 100% sure of this statement? Is there not any other example besided the either or that you have presented?
GodIsReal101 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 I did not give an either or example, I gave an example in which both of what I said would be true if what you said is true, and yes, I am 100% sure about it. If God uses Doctors to heal people, then 1) God cannot act on is own, and 2) We have no free will. There could be other examples, but it doesn't matter because these are biconditional statements.
TheCommonCritic 10 months ago
@TheCommonCritic Let me explain. If God uses Doctors to heal then God cannot act on his own is a self defeating statement. God can choice to USE man as a tool for his glory. Who gave man the wisdom to preform these acts? So once again I will repeat my point. You are not wise to say God could USE a DR but then he is not acting or doing it alone. If God is using someone then God is at the hand of the event. The laws of non contradiction work against you if you denounce this simple fact.
GodIsReal101 10 months ago

Woops!
what567 10 months ago
@what567 Woops?? Her study was published by peers and acepted by another paper... Woops!
And for the other studies in this video??? Woops...
GodIsReal101 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 I think you need to work on your reading comprehension skills. If you read carefully, you'll see that the results were not confirmed by later studies. What matters in scientific studies (since this is what you seem to be concerned with), is not only the result of the initial study, but also that the results can be duplicated. Targ's results were not duplicated by further studies.
what567 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 In addition, the only difference in variables in the original study was in number of doctor visits. There was no difference in mortality rate, symptoms, etc (which is probably what prayer should affect, not how many times you visit the hospital). Targ did not publish these results, she only published the results that supported her hypothesis. This is known as cherry picking evidence, and again invalidates the study's scientific credibility.
what567 10 months ago
@what567 The findings did not just show the relation to doctor visits but symptoms hence the reasons for having a DR visit. You just suggested that people were not attending check ups or something and that is not what the data stated. The people felt better and had less symptoms hence needing less treatment and visits. The problem is this. Atheist do the study and have a bias and tend to lean toward certain data. Theist run a study based on what they have seen and the data looks bias.
GodIsReal101 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 Did you read what I wrote? There was no statistically significant difference in symptoms. There was a difference in the number of doctor visits and hospital stays, but this data does not necessarily correlate with the illness of the patient. I never suggested that people weren't attending checkups, and I have no idea where you got that from.
what567 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 You also suggest that when "Atheists" (you assume that because a study discounts one providing support for prayer, it MUST have been done by atheists) do a study it is inherently biased, but when theists do one it isn't? First of all, you have provided no evidence of any bias in any study discounting the efficacy of prayer, while I have clearly demonstrated bias in Targ's study, though you clearly didn't understand a word I wrote. Read it again.
what567 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 Second, Targ was listed as an author on the later study that could not duplicate the results of her earlier one, which clearly destroys your paranoid notion of a conspiracy by atheists to manipulate data to contradict your beliefs.
Third, and most importantly, the study was never meant to test prayer to the christian god in the first place! The "healers" were asked to send "positive energy" to the patients, not pray to god. Targ was interested in psychic phenomena, not religion.
what567 10 months ago
@GodIsReal101 you're still wrong. according to your video, half of people who received prayers required less hospitalization. those results lead to the conclusion that there is a 50/50 chance that you either will or won't require hospitalization. you literally would have gotten the same result from flipping a coin.

This video taught me that prayer is valuable as a placebo. It costs me less time, thought, effort, and [equivalent] money to buy sugar pills.
benjaminmschroeder 10 months ago
@benjaminmschroeder Well I appreciate your comments. I disagree with your thoughts on the data presented as I know of no research that says a sugar pill can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, ease the pain of severe injuries, help heal the sick with cancer, heart failure, and cancer. Reduce the amount of issues with AIDS. So I must with respect disagree with your comment.
GodIsReal101 10 months ago
Studies show prayer does not work. Prayer may help therapeutically similar to meditation but prayer in the terms of healing does not work.
chrisinsocalif 11 months ago 2
I find this to be hilarious, cause' in the book of false hope, otherwise known as the bible (or simply a bad joke). it says that ''god helps those who help themselves'' meaning that he cant, and won't, help you if you pray for it. and after you have achieved your goal, you have no further need to be assisted, rendering god errelevent. LOL! there's no god listening anyway, so your just lying to yourself in the end.
JZfox42 11 months ago
@JZfox42 While I agree with your main point, I have to point out that the Bible never said that. Benjamin Franklin said that.

MY LIVING PROOF THAT PRAYER WORKS IS NOW DEAD
MACKBOOK123456 1 year ago
@MACKBOOK123456 sorry to hear about your loss.
GodIsReal101 11 months ago
It's called the placebo effect. It works because the practitioner THINKS it works, not because it has any particular power in itself. It's psychosomatic. Studies show that prayer ONLY has this effect when it is known by the person that they are being prayed for.
quwert23 1 year ago
The 1st one is obviously wrong, it "said" not know, it was an opinion by people.
and no prayer doesn't work. Think about it. Modern Medicine or Prayers.
Honestly everyone single theists should use prayer but do not use modern medicine and we will see the health differences, and life expectancy.
DoNotLaughAtMe 1 year ago
And another thing...
Where's the logic in that?
CammyWhite499 1 year ago
These "facts" seem a little bias or incomplete. I have a feeling that while the professionals who conducted these studies found that prayer does these things, the same effects can be achieved through non-religious meditation or by simply letting an AIDS patient know that you care about them.
You might also want to look into how many people have been saved by science while God stood idly by. If it's a numbers game I'll put my faith in humanity.
CammyWhite499 1 year ago
this is kind of ridiculous. praying is usually something that is calming, and therefore promotes better health. it is the physical action that causes the change. and the placebo effect can account for people getting prayers doing better. they believe the prayers help, so they get better.
youshouldallexpire 1 year ago
Millions of people pray daily for an end to war and suffering....what's happened? Is God not listening? If more people actually got out there and tried to make a difference instead of taking the easy option and grovelling to their imaginary friend in the sky the world might be a better place.
9T2 1 year ago

This video should not be "featured"
Partly because it's bullshit, but also because of its stats. It shows that religious myths always are favored over real evidence.
P.S. I've researched the "studies" you presented, in all cases they are either not scientific studies, or the results have been changed.

stereotypical213 1 year ago 45

Haha.

Most of the supposed testimonies and studies you provided can be simply explained that the effect was placebo.
True, that fits the definition of 'works' but anyone could follow homeopathy and say that it works as well since the 'evidence does exist as long as you look for it'.
Also, could we get a list of provenance?
jergorn93 1 year ago
