Genealogy is defined differently for each person. I think ultimately every person is curious about where they came from. For me it was a continuation of work started by my grandmother 60 years ago. After my father died I came upons her old papers that showed we were descended from a pilgrim. I added to her work and now have thousands of recorded ancestors and I am not even one tenth done.
To me, genealogy is a way of connecting to the past. I have since become fascinated with history, Knowing how your ancestors fit into the context of history makes it more interesting to read about. The more I learn about history the more I learn about people in general. It all fits together and genealogy just shows how it all fits together.
It is imposible to fully understand and appreciate history without understanding the genealogy of the people involved. Seeing in a history book that a particular nobleman started a war is one thing. Seeing that his mother's first cousin is the oposing nobleman sheds a whole new light on the subject. Then discovering that both are your ancestors makes you want to read more.
I tend to agree - I personally have lots of websites here and there to which I have lost my login credentials and cant use password reminders because I changed email accounts since then... each one is an other manifestation of oneself at a particular point in time, and give a different insight into one's life. But I'm afraid that it's NOT what genealogy is really about - at least for us :) Maybe you ought to change the title to make it more relevant to the content of the video
The funny thing is, without having seen my entire presentation, how do you not know that my topic wasn't about the Internet or identify theft?
In fact, my topic was "How will your kids do genealogical research about you in the future?" and a big part of it was the digital footprint people leave "intentionally or unintentionally" online - including YouTube videos which is why I used this clip as the final part of a much longer presentation.
Tell me something that I didn't already know! Leave out the "intentionally or unintentionally" jive, your topic is genealogy not the internet or identity theft.

I see your point but I think that among other things, genealogy is very much about finding out who you are by finding out who your ancestors were...

The more I think about it, I actually have no idea why you felt the need to comment (or at least, to do so using such a pedantic tone.)
